All that sound you just heard was coming from the new AC10C1 from Vox Amps. Fresh from their Custom Series, the Vox AC10 bridges the gap between the AC4 and the AC15, for players who want the portability of an ultra-compact machine and the raw tube grunt of a bigger amplifier. The AC10 Custom is no slouch in the features department, featuring two 12ax7s feeding two EL84s, which drive a single 10-inch speaker. Of course, this means nothing without a good speaker, and the AC10 delivers, featuring a custom VX10 speaker that is designed by speaker legends Celestion. The legendary "Top Boost" sound is alive and well in the AC10C1, and the beefiness of the power section ensures that sweet undeniably british top boost comes roaring forth at earlier positions on the master volume knob. Adding a dirt or boost pedal in front only enhances the tube saturation and allows full-on tube snarl at very manageable volumes. Lastly, there's an onboard reverb that was specially designed for this 1x10 combo, and it's capable of subtle textures to some seriously vast 'verbage.
Looks like we just hit the 200k mark! Thanks to all our subscribers, old and new!

+ProGuitarShopDemos You've got some of the best demos around, thanks for your hard work :-)
This comment is sad now.
Andy. The only demo guy that matters.
bigbabyjesus12 Just Nick is also very good.
It's a Clash reference. Nick is real good too.
j.B. at premier is my fav
then later came Jack from Peach Guitars...OMG....and Greg Koch is always a delight...
Well I'm years late but this is a brilliant demo of a brilliant amplifier. Thanks for Clampdown especially, it sounded perfect.
I have the ac10c1 and as Andy so nicely demonstrates, this is a kick ass amplifier! From chimey to crunchy and everything in between, the ac10 is my favorite amp . Much louder than people think it'll be...
Just spent about 6 hours on one of these. Unbelievable! Not as bright nor as harsh as I was expecting. Actually, it can be very rounded, smooth, and crunchy. My Tele and strat have never sounded better. And I've owned boutique gear to compare it to.
Andy, your playing was so good I forgot to even pay attention to the tone of the amp.
+Ian Harris Ha I do that with reviews all the time;)
Got this amp for Christmas and man, I've been tone hunting like crazy. I love this amp. The only pedal I occasionally run through it is my Soul Good with a Dexter mod. Sounds incredible. That digital reverb is amazing too! Recording it has been a breeze too. Also... It's LOUD!
@ Nah. If you wanna know, there's heaps of people who have posted stuff online using the amp... Oh, actually, I think this video demonstrates how good the amp tone is...
@ You got anything to post? Maybe we can collab. Be way better than posting online! Oh shit yeah! You'll get to hear how good the amp sounds that way too
I've seen people complaining about the brightness, did you have any issues?
Sometimes I just enjoy listening to Andy play.
Andy always has the best song choice
Love this thing! Big tone in a tiny(ish) package. Lots of applications for this. From bedroom to studio to practice to a club. The speaker out option makes it even that much more useful. Would love to see a part 2 demo exploring the reverb and some cleans.
Thanks as always to PGS and Andy, whose Native American name is "Plays Every Song Ever".
Sounds like an indie rock machine
I just got myself this amp cause of your review and it´s the best amp ever! Fantastic!!
"Runnin' down a dream" by Andy, fills my ears with candy ;-) !!! Great demo, great job (as usual...) !
using a clash song for a demo.....maximum kudos
The song is called "Running down a dream" by Tom Petty 1989 on "Full Moon Fever" CD
@@jonasmayer692The first song is Clampdown from "London Calling".
@@gabrielledebourg2487 my all time favorite clash song
OMG IT'S ANDY FROM REVERB
Oh, this was 4 years ago...
Love the AC10 - great tone - better than the Ac15 IMO (others have said the same thing)... just a great magical toned amp... quiet amp, nice reverb, cleans are top notch, speaker is darn good with great lows. One of those amps that inspires you to play. Best amp for the money IMO. And I am a Fender and Marshall fanboy.
I also like the Bassbreaker 007. Have you tried both?
@@Lalairu I have owned both. Both nice and good for low volume play. AC10 has more top end if I recall. Sold both as I found something like a Deluxe Reverb gives more headroom for pedals & better feel (air movement) even at low volume.
@@carpediem4413 I see. Thank you very much! I know that they are different amps, and that means that sometimes they are not better or worse... Just another sound. I like Vox and Fender sounds... But can't have both 😅
@@Lalairu Don't really like the bassbreaker, not quite my tone but its not a bad amp by any means!
Killer demo ! Vox rules ! Runnin' Down a Dream was the perfect demo song !
After 5 years still the best demo of this amp ...! 👌
ahahahah yes but after 5 years I play at the same level of 5 years ago!
I just traded an Epi for a mint red Vox AC10. After looking at a bunch of "demo" videos, nothing compares to Andy to simply break down the amp and show you what it can do. Just made a spreadsheet and went back thru and marked up the six different settings he included. If you're trying to get your head around a new amp, that sure help a lot more that some gunslinger with a $4,000 custom guitar showing you how cool they can play and never showing anything other than the front of the amp. I still want to be Andy when I grow up.
A nice progression, different guitars, real life playing. Great demo, thanks!
The judge said five to ten, but I say double that again
I'm not working for the clampdown
No man born with a living soul
Can be working for the clampdown
Kick over the wall 'cause government's to fall
How can you refuse it?
Let fury have the hour, anger can be power
D'you know that you can use it?
Malady old guy says right on !
Malady Ha! Get-along, get-along....
Malady Boy get running....
Holy Smokes Andy, while Mike Campbell is one of my all time favorites, at 5:34 you do an awesome replication on his Running Down a Dream riff. Outstanding and love the AC10 demo. Thanks
That's a helluva gash in the top of that beautiful Firebird. :(
Awesome rendition of "Runnin' Down a Dream," though! Spot-on Mike Campbell tone.
Never realized how much that solo in Running Down a Dream sounds like a Gilmour lick. Great sounding amp - and playing of course!
The best amp sound on RUclips! And I’ve heard them all:)
Loved the amp and the Clampdown intro! Viva The Clash!
GREAT demo GREAT playing GREAT editing as usual! Andy & PGS do THE best demos hands down. Hats off to you all! :) :) :)
so perfect...half expected Andy to ring a bell twixt chorus and verse
I played one of these and a new Tweed Blues Jr at a CT GC. The BJ did better tones at low volumes but it couldn't touch the Vox for the classic rock sound (which should be expected). Both had fresh speakers and I wasn't being a GC jerk so who knows at louder volumes and once the speakers break in. Vox is a little lighter too. BJ may be more flexible but that Vox just has something special going on and is $150 cheaper. Also there is a huge amount of mods for the BJ cause it could use them whereas I feel like people will leave the Vox stock. Full disclosure: I am no expect, I play lousy, and I only had an hour but they were right across from each other on opposing shelves.
Was it a normal blues jr or an nos?
MrBingping current Lacquered Tweed version
www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BluesJrLT
That's the one to get...they're different beasts though. The nos does a pretty damn good job of nailing some billy gibbons tones.
MrBingping Humbolt was good too but Ive been told hemp takes even longer to break in even though it starts out darker to begin with. Had one briefly and my friend's strat sounded unreal through it doing Fender cleans.
+NYC LP Player Well said. Really apples and oranges to compare the BJr and the AC10. I prefer the BJr for the relative girth of the tone, esp at high gain. For me the AC10 sounds fizzy but then all ACs with their top-boost circuit come across that way to me. So basically if you're a Vox person, you will probably love this amp. If you're not, it's unlikely to convert you.
Sounds amazing! Also, Andy is wearing a very nice shirt this demo. 10/10
This guy is the king of gear demoing brilliant andy keeps it simple and sweet , and his playing is so diverse
Best review/demo I have seen of this amp. Order going in at the weekend for one of these 🤘🏻
Like for the Clash
Just traded an AC30 head for an AC10C1.
Was wondering if I made the right choice, as I actually prefer the normal channel over top boost. But I just plugged in my Gibson Les Paul Special and played some country riffs, and I’m in heaven. I can get grit without blowing my house down around me.
Also, I suppose it’s illegal to do a video on any Vox AC amp and not say “chime.” Well done.
I don’t know how Vox can put this product out for $450. Even if you owned a Dr. Z amp you would still pick one of these up, they are so good!
only andy ever cranks the master to 10, i like that.
You’ve been wearing blue & brown, and workin for the clampdown.
Love my AC-10. It’s Perfect amp for my small apartment … headphones just don’t get-it sometimes.
Of course if I buy the amp I have to buy that Firebird to go with it! Great demo as always!
Runnin down a dream!
What a great little amp! The playing and song selection is exceptional as usual. I'm now convinced to get this for my 8yr old son who just started taking lessons and aspires to become Brian May. Lol. Thanks again for a fantastic review!
What a great guitarist and he has very good taste in music
You pretty much sold me on the amp when you busted out that classic Clash tune for your demo. Kudos for you not playing something the typical 19 year old guitar wizard would understand. That being said I am very impressed by the sound of this tweener Vox amp. Suppose I need a tremolo pedal and extension speaker but video has me trying to figure out what I need to sell..
When you were playing Running Down a Dream it sounded exactly like the recording!
that amp!! and that firebird!!! nice combo
The Clash. Yesssss!!!! Workin for the clampdown.
Wow the petty arrangement is just incredible - sounds just like the album
Andy using a Firebird, now I've seen everything.
I've been thinking about getting one and then I see this...
Yes I have one it’s the last guitar you will buy - at least for hb tone - it’s incredible
Awesome demo (as always from Andy). Truth be told, though, I played one of these at GC and wanted it before I saw this demo! My only concern about it is the amount of clean headroom for use with pedals, but I've heard this is not a problem. (In my experience, it got loud fairly quickly and stayed pretty clean, especially with single coils). I don't have a ton of experience with AC15's, but I read one review where they felt the AC10 might be a little "warmer", even though that seems completely counter-intuitive. Anyway, it sounded great - it's a single channel amp that works at basement volumes and covers a huge range of tones. I do wish it had an effects loop, but that's a gripe you could have with many similarly-priced amps.
How loud is this kid really? I mean the amp of course
Pretty damn loud tbh.
I was going to get a 100 watt Boss Katana for my first real amp (I play through Logic Pro and studio monitors) but I think I'm going to get this instead. I don't really need to have an amp that gets super loud so I think gets a tube amp with less power would be the smart choice. I also have some pedals that would most likely sound better when played into a tube amp.
Runnin Down a Dream, what a kick ass song!
to be able to play like Andy.... love your demos man!
As always, well done Andy!!!
Andy has a new guitar, wow it's a stunner! I like that Vox are using proper switches and input jacks for these now. I had to do a lot of mods on my AC15cc1, including replacing the speaker with a blue, and replacing the reverb tank but luckily I got it cheap. I also had to add a choke as well. I presume this doesn't have one? My VOX is a flawless amp now. I like the idea of this one, and it seems vox picks up on what modders are doing so I bet this is a great amp. VOX seem to be working well with the chinese. The pcbs are very well laid out. This sounds great.
This guy and Rabea, amazing demo guitarists
sounds absolutely amazing..love it
Clampdown! Finally, someone plays a song I love and isn't just wanking about with the same blues/country/classic '70s rock riffs! Sounds fantastic, but I would love to hear a really clean tone with a lot of reverb. Does anyone know if this takes pedals well (delay, reverb, chorus)? Anyway, great video! Beautiful sounding amp!
I have two of these amps - they are fantastic. Dont get one if you're after really clean tone though - they are class A which means they break up pretty quick. At low volumes you can get away with it - if you need more volume the only way to get it is to boost the pregain up which instantly gets you into distortion. If you keep the pregain really low the master volume only increases in volume to about one O clock - after that it doesnt get any louder - just fatter. It's a lovely distortion though. Nice fur coat with the perfect sort of tube compression. The above demo is spot on for what this thing actually sounds like.
I couldn't think of the name of that song, clampdown I knew it was the clash. Thanks for reminding me
I bought this amp a year ago because of this demo . I run my 74 strat through this with a proco rat and an ehx canyon. Delicious.
So yes
@@promoted738 Need it for studio recording but worry about amp hiss? Im not talking about pickup noise but amp itself, if it has buzzing/hissing/hum which will be picked up by microphone. Thanks
I don't find the amp to be overly noisy - it has some but you can always EQ that out to an acceptable degree.
Nice review and great playing. The Clash intro was great.
Thanks, I was pretty pleased how that tune came out with this little combo! -Andy
Love the demo - however I have this amp and at full volume, gain at 3 o'clock like the first clip, I'd have the neighbors around within seconds, and probably the windows blown out. The issue I have is that it is a bit muddy unless you crank it... I can't help but wonder if a Fender with pedals would be more practical for practice use.
class using the clash as the demo!!! kudos
That Firebird though...
Clash Clampdown, Thx so much! N1c3 Demo too.
6 min in the video was dope, Good demo.
Amazing sound, very nice!
Nailed that Campbell solo
Sympa le clin d'oeil aux Clash au début de démo !!uk en force 💥🎸👏Vox c'est la classe
I do like the sound of this a lot, the drive n reverb both work well without being either too overpowering, not too much the either way either.
...Working for the Clamp Down!!!!............. I own this amp and it really f'n rocks!!!..............working for the Clamp Down
I like how they play songs for a while as opposed to ADHD snippets.
flipidy94 good song choice too. I don't mean as in "good music" since music is only good by your standards, but Andy chooses guitars and songs that perfectly match the settings of the amp and show off its capabilities
What are we gonna do now?
Buy a Vox, boys. It's the best years of your lives...
lovely tones
Andy is the one true demo guy
Great Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1:01 - Bridge / Strat - VOL = 8:00 am (City Studio Apt)
👍👍 nice demo .☺️
another great Joe Strummer written tune.
The epitome of tone.
Love that firebird, and the use of tom petty in this review ha, this looks like a snazzy lil amp
Really love that lead sound 5:35 reminds me of James Williamson(Iggy & The stooges)
I don't get to crank it as loud as Andy on my gigs... But I really enjoy playing this amp.
I'm noticing a the bass is up really high on these settings? Even with the HB guitars.
Awesome! (Not another pedal video!)
GREAT TELLY SOUND
I wondered if the AC10C1 is class A amp?
I understand that the AC15 and AC30 is really class AB amp; some people said only the AC4 in their current lineup is true class A.
O can only think how the AC10 would sound in a bigger cabinet, like a Ac15 or even slightly bigger with a better speaker. Still lightweight.
Oh man! The Clash working for the clampdown what a tuuunnnnne🙏🍻
Clampdown :)
whats the tune played on the strat ?
Nice Firebird at the end .
Holy $h/t runnin down a dream was unbelievable
Thank you! This was a fun demo.
Great demo
Working for the Clampdown!
Love that Firebird Gib at the end...and you are my *favourite* note (and timing) perfect guitarist...would love to know what you do as a night job, you should have one, no doubt you do...and clips are v. helpful thanks :)
Wonderful amp, especially once you replace the stock China tubes -- especially the preamp tube.
Not bad sounding for a hybrid amplifier
VoxPathfinder15R All tube amp. The reverb is the only thing that’s not analog
@@brentvalleywhag3477 if you pick up a schematic, two of the four gain stages in the preamp are mosfet transistors. This makes sense. A push/pull top boost circuit needs a minimum of Three 12AX7 preamp tubes and two el84 output tubes for 10/15 watts. This amp has only two preamp tubes, it’s missing a tube. That missing tube is replaced by those two mosfet transistors. That makes this amp a hybrid amp.
I know this is an older video, but it was just what I needed. I just purchase a VOX 101C. Thank you.
Happy to help, this is/was quite an impressive little amp!!
-Andy
Awesome to cover Tom Petty
Ive been almost tempted to get this amp but funnily enough i wanted to know what bands like the Clash sound like then suddenly you play Clampdown! Thats it i want one..cheers!
Between this an the ac15, for nice clean sound to pedal on it, to give use at home and stage wich one you prefer?? The thing that this has 10 kilos less it really gets to me to move it around to rehearsal and gigging!!
Hello, thank you for the great review. Do you recommend changing the stock tubes to something else?
I like how this has reverb as opposed to the AC4 which doesn't.
Okey, my bandmate is looking for his first tube amp. We play like folk rock with jazz and a bit ska, not chill music but not a rockin loud thing. Energy but no overdrive... Would this amp work, or better he gets the AC15c?
