    Only nine hours and forty three minutes late with this upload! I'm getting better, guys!
    Here’s the recipe for this week’s drink, the Smokin’ Choke! Or at least my version of it...
    - 2oz Four Roses Bourbon
    - 3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
    - 1 eye dropper of Cynar
    - 1 bar spoon of smoked simple syrup (the original has maple syrup and you smoke the bourbon instead)
    - garnish with an orange twist!

      NFL D coordinators already figured this out. That was part of the point of the video. Mahomes has taken some really bad sacks this year because teams have started to figure it out. Mahommes is young and massively talented. But he has had so much success without really having to exercise patience because of his ridiculous arm talent. Teams need to jump on this weakness now before he fixes it and he will fix it.

      There have been 2 teams with losing records that have made the playoffs in the post realignment era (2002). They are the 2010 Seahawks and the 2014 Panthers. BOTH teams won their home playoff games in dominate fashion (in their own ways). Seattle put up 41 points on the defending Super Bowl champs while Carolina held the Cardinals to a playoff record low of 78 total offensive yards in a defensive masterclass 27-16 victory. I would not be surprised if the Cowboys or Washington win their home playoff game (most likely against Brady and Tampa Bay as of writing this). The Cowboys could light up the Bucs defense based on what I have seen in the past few weeks or Washington's defense can lock that Tampa offense down as Ron Rivera knows how to play Bruce Arians in the playoffs ( having a 2-0 record and halting his offense each time). It sounds ridiculous but I think the NFC East winner will win their home playoff game then lose on the road the following week despite how weak that divison is but the things people have said about the NFC East this year was EXACTLY like how people talked about the 2010 NFC West and 2014 NFC South.

He was so damn good that this style turned in to a crutch. I worry the same thing could happen to Mahomes with his deep drops. It works when teams give him the right look. But when a smart team has a week to study your tendencies in the playoffs, that’s when it becomes an issue. I watched this with Rodgers in the playoffs season after season.

    People have to give the Chiefs defense credit. They are also a HUGE part of the 15-1 record. When the Chiefs offense stalls, the Chiefs defense steps up and doesn't give up a lot of points. That is what the Packers post-2011 lacked. As great as Rodgers and the offense (Mahomes and the Chiefs defense are comparable to the Packers offense before 2015) were, when they stalled, the defense still have up 30+ points constantly. Good that the Chiefs are the 6th scoring defense in the league. And when the defense struggles, the offense picks up the pace. Got each other's backs

    2. They can run the ball against 2 safety looks. Bell gashed the Saints run defense (one of the best in the NFL, just not recently) when they were in 2-man looks and obviously Dennis Allen couldn't bring that extra guy in the box because KC will just bomb you.

Sadly it’s looking like he may not be back for the playoffs. Fisher has not been playing that well this season, shouldn’t have made the pro bowl. Granted he’s been playing through injuries but still he’s been getting beat a lot every week. The interior OLine is just abysmal. That coupled with Mahomes not being as sharp the last month or so is pretty much the whole problem. It’s amazing they’ve still been able to win

  • @glatts
    @glatts 3 года назад +3

    Worth noting that Mahomes is not the most adept at reading defenses. He's been learning under Reid, but he never had to do it in college. It's definitely an area of weakness for him (there's a few articles on this). I think that may be a factor in his deep drop backs. He uses it to give himself time to (1) see what the defense is doing and (2) allow his receivers time to get open while being able to see it all unfold in front of him, instead of being able to anticipate based off what the defense is going to do.
    And as Brett noted, the deep dropbacks hurt your tackles when facing a speed rush on the edge. This is because at a certain depth, the Tackles can only backpeddle so much, so if the defender gets to a spot that is too deep, they can push them past the pocket and the QB can step up into it. But when Mahomes takes a deep dropback, he eliminates that possibility. He inadvertently positions himself into their path, a path that is more streamlined since they don't have to go around the Tackle, they can just run in a straight line to a point well behind the LOS.
    Additionally, the Chiefs don't really seem to do Mahomes any favors by scheming against it (like having a TE or RB chip block before releasing). I know Brady would often motion in a TE or an RB to come in to the side of the edge rush and help to block them, but I haven't seen that as much from the Chiefs. Not sure if that's 100% on the play calls or something else Mahomes could do by recognizing the defense better pre-snap.

    You're definitely right, these are their major weaknesses and Patrick Mahomes definitely isn't perfect. NFL defenses have been picking up on this for a while now and everybody is able to play them tough because of this. But to say that they are unable to make long drives with multiple plays is not true. I feel they proved this in the first half of the season, specifically against Buffalo or even the ravens. Why they have shied away from this in second half of the season is beyond my knowledge, but the point is, we know they can do it and I really do think they will play whatever style they have to this postseason and do it successfully.

    As soon as the Superbowl finished I thought of this video and have been meaning to come back and watch again as I was sure you called out a lot of the problems they ended up having in the game. Obviously you didn't know the O-line was going to end as beat up as they were but the principles are still the same!

      but thats the thing. you didnt. in the bag is a 3 score lead in the 4th. you let Mahomes have an entire quarter to comeback after he threw 2 picks in the 3rd.

    I’m watching this the day before the Super Bowl against the Buccs and this is possibly the most competent and fair assessment of the Chiefs I have ever witnessed. These talking heads on TV are completely infatuated with Mahomes and Tyreek and ignore every other aspect/weakness of their team. Good video brother

    Chiefs greatest enemy is themselves. They try way too hard to be cute on offensive instead of doing the basics Hal the time. Typical Andy Ried

      That play where the RBs id a cooridinated 360 to shift a player. Can just feel the justice when something like that goes sideways.

      @@zenunderground I’m a falcons fan and i watched that Chiefs game in depth. If you rush just a straight 4 and don’t blitz you can slow down the chiefs offense. The falcons defense can’t generate pressure but because Mahomes drops so back like Brett showed he often creates more sacks that the offensive line actually does. Same thing with the Greatest Show in turf with the 7 step drop but the difference is they had Orlando Pace. This chiefs o line doesn’t have a generational tackle. If you secondary stays in place and let the Chiefs continues to hunt big plays instead of the simples, you can beat them. However, I don’t know which team can do that effectively

      How can a team with a terrible defense be they’re own enemy? If they run into teams like Baltimore or Buffalo they are gonna be in huge trouble

    • @alphabah6094
      @alphabah6094 3 года назад

      @@yeahhdatsm the D Line is really good at generating pressure and Honey Badger carries that whole secondary. The offense and its refusal for simplicity is what I believe is thier problem. Buffalo can be the team to beat them, but can thier Pass rush generate enough pressure on Mahomes. Ravens is more of skematical advantage
