    *Thank You so much for making this review! Great video! I have been starved for more content about the ToX game!*

      You're so very welcome! I'm super excited to see this game get an official publication!

    *8:29** I literally did the same thing!! I didn't like how swingy the opposed roll system was! There's a part in the primer that talks about how if you feel a test needs to be harder you can add extra dice to it but I don't know why I would want to make the game take even longer. Plus, I don't want to have to adjudicate the difficulty of every single task every single time. Some things things should just be a 12 ya know? XD*

      @JeffreyVenture  3 года назад +3

      I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one that felt that way! It seriously made zero sense to me that the challenge level was variable based on a dice roll. Could have made for both some implausibly easy and hard challenges for players.

    Something that I as a very shy person and roleplay beginner absolutely loved in this system was assembling dice pools. That mechanic stringed me along and allowed me to easily narrate my actions, step by step, with my characters attributes, values etc. Thinking about what I can include in the dice pool to turn a situation into my favour or how to help others was engaging and a lot of fun.
    The stress system was also nice to justify interesting and suboptimal actions and make me feel less like a jerk while doing it - I'm not just making things difficult for no reason, I have a d10 angry stress! (and I get juicy plot points for it, hehe)

    *I was actually making my own review but it was going to be a lot less concise and well edited. I got my recording to about 55 minutes then I gave up! XD*

      Getting these to a reasonable length is certainly a challenge! There's always more I want to say than makes the cut in these videos

    9:30 well, in the final version of the game those cute adorable animals will have a purpose as dark magic reagents that you can use to use powerful spells outside your area of expertise in exchange for taking on corrupted stress

    • @JeffreyVenture
      @JeffreyVenture  3 года назад +7

      Oh man, that just gave me a idea for a druid-type character that walks around with a bunch of furry friends, but they're really just ammo for his dark magic spells. Excellent point.

      @@JeffreyVenture It definitely seems interesting but, from what I can tell, it's more of a last resort type thing. If your corruption stress reaches max, you hand the narrator your character sheet and they are now a villain. Extremely interesting as a mechanic but, like PP, I worry the cost will cause players to just never use it. Though, I suppose, a good narrator's job is to tempt players into doing things anyway

    I pre-ordered the book. I'm still confused on some of the mechanics like the dice stuff. It might just be my inexperience with mechanics outside of D&D 5e, but I'm just confused and trying to understand it so I can run it in the future

      Did you ever figure it out? This is my first table top rpg and I’m trying to be the GM. I just don’t understand all this. It seems unnecessarily complex.

      @@tariofrost4123 yeah, I think it’d be way easier if I had someone walk me through it or something. Honestly it’d be way easier if there was at least some videos properly explaining the rules. There are some, but they’re mostly just the rules primer.

    I have the book and this is my first table top rpg. I’m trying to be the GM, but it’s all so complicated. Does it really have to be this hard? It seems unnecessarily complex.

    • @JeffreyVenture
      @JeffreyVenture  2 года назад +2

      Ngl, most TTRPGs are pretty complex in order to account for the ability to do pretty much anything the players can imagine. That being said, there are a few games out there that are intentionally quite a bit simpler for first time GMs. I would recommend Mausritter or Fiasco.

    • @Toytle
      @Toytle 2 года назад

      @@JeffreyVenture neither me or my friends are really the TTRPG type lol. We’re just fans of the dragon prince. I’m sure I’ll figure it out. I think it’s just how the book is structured that makes it so confusing for me.

    • @Toytle

      @@JeffreyVenture I have considered Quest. I might give that a try. I looked at the rules and they’re much more on my level for this stuff. I’ll probably give that a try if tales of xadia doesn’t work out for my group. Not only is tales of xadia a lot for me to learn, but it is for my friends as well. It’ll be difficult to get them all on a level of understanding enough for us to play. :/

    i think its funny, but very naïve that you think a serialized cartoon on Netflix has a primary audience of kids, and not man-children.
