    Many thanks Howard, Casey and others behind the scenes. Very professional and informative as usual. I now know I know enough to be dangerous! Its a wonder my last HQ Monaro restoration turned out as good as it did! Never to old to learn. Thanks Bill Mc.

    Backyard DIY here from Perth who wanted to be able to handle a full respray at home in my 7.5m x 6m double garage. I had a decent 100 Ltr belt driven compressor, so i ended up sourcing an extra 2 x100 Ltr s/steel tanks (fire suppresent tanks rated to 600psi) and jerry rigged them all to give me 300 Ltrs of compressed air located in an adjoining shed. The airline feeds into DIY large 1inch x 5 vertical copper tubes aprox 5ft long each (akin to a radiator design mounted to the wall) 3 of which have ball checks at the bottom that feeds into copper line to a 3 stage filter (HB Filter Regulator Dryer - FLM863) and then to the spray hose noting I also had a larger size 16 pipe Trans cooler from USA mounted to the compressor but the vibration fractered the inlet/outlet pipes (should have used flexi hose instead copper) to help cool the air coming straight out of the compressor ( will get another one in due course and fit it)
    Once the tanks are full i then crack the Ball valves to release any moisture. The filter regulator on the wall sets the pressure from the compressor (i have that set at 50psi) and a reg on the spraygun for gun pressure. This DIY set-up sees constant pressure at the gun and the compressor very randomly kicks in and i have sprayed a full car with no issues at all

    Another great episode Howard, 30mins of total relevent helpful content 👍It would be great to see a backyard/semi pro workshop that Cassy has setup with recommended compressers/hoses/filters etc. 👌

    WOW! Super informative. I was informed by Dr. Google that I'd need at least an 18 CFM compressor to paint my car but the cost was going to kill me. Instead, I'm going to put more investment into cleaning the air that the 16 CFM that I could afford delivers clean dry air at the gun. I'm still learning about the basics and am far from being able to have the luxury of a down or end flow booth, and instead use my garage which eve when priming, I make sure is as clean asI can get it with household products and wet down the floor to minimise air garbage, but in saying that, I'm thinking now that the added external moisture might be a bad thing. I sprayed my first time in acrylic on a mates project in one of those temporary garages but the cutting and buffing work getting out the garbage in the paint was not a fun time. Adding to that, it was only a 10 CFM compressor with only basic water traps. I really want to do my own in 2 pac for a nice smooth finish and paint job longevity.

    I’m retired from the smash industry but the last part of my time in the trade I started a job in a major shop I hated his setup with a old piston pump that couldn’t keep up running 4 beaters and two spray painters and always water 💦 in the lines I kept complaining until the boss eventually gave in and bought a screw compressor holly wow what a way better system Constant 120 PSI all the time no water in the lines and actually worked but like always the boss complained about how much it cost and the services on it too keep it running 😂😂 I could do sand blasting outside on his towrana and didn’t effect the rest of the shop

    This is always great information for the home painter, I don't have a spray booth so would be a good setup for filtering air leaving the shed ?

    I run my air through a oil cooler with a fan that turns on when compressor is running. And I get no water @ all coming through the air lines.

    Hi mate do you use the dryer all the time or only when you’re painting and you re direct the air if you’re using air tools with no dryer thanks 👍👍

      @AstillDesign  23 дня назад +2

      Only when I’m painting. The air for the worship is on a separate line.

    Hi Howard fantastic episode as usual 🙏 what triple filter /water remover would you suggest for a home workshop with the occasional spaying job .

    • @AstillDesign
      @AstillDesign  9 дней назад +1

      It all depends on your budget, The sata 2 stage like I have or the equilivant is what you need unless you're going to have an air feed hood.

    Thanks for another great instructional video, but mate, it's time to stop. You have cost me a fortune in recent years! I watch and think geez that's a good tool, that's a good set up or I'll try that product. Every time it's another round of punishment of the Visa card. I'm happy with my DIY booth and dunny roll setup but in this video you've reminded me that I should replace all the old Jamec fittings with bigger bore varieties. My justification for improving these things has always been the cost of materials in a restoration. I deliberately don't add it up, but in modern times with epoxy and two pack it's so expensive that DIYers really need to try to get the best from the materials through optimising the equipment and processes. Maybe that would be an interesting subject for a video where you could outline different material choices and compare the project costs between DIY and commercial. I simply couldn't build cars if I was paying someone to do it, but I'd be fascinated to know what commercial charges are for this stuff. Thanks again.

    • @AstillDesign
      @AstillDesign  17 дней назад +1

      I will defiantly look at that for a subject

      @mickmeaney1461 I got told by a guy in the paint and panel industry that us DIY guys working in our garages should roller epoxy and urethane coatings and hand block all at home and just rent a booth for a day to do the colour coats. Might be a bit more costly if you're doing a clear-over-base job, but with direct gloss 2K one day in booth is very do-able! 🙌👌🍻
