    What a treat to hear some compelling, insightful, honest analysis of a very underappreciated part of this genius's career. I hope at some point there is similar feedback regarding his non-secular albums and general exploration of that genre. As with his foray into country music, the quality of much of his music during that time was undeniable. Generally speaking my playlists don't include many choices from that genre - - - but Dylan's stuff is the exception.

      @liverust5 5 лет назад

      The thrift stores will get them and then someone will find them and sell them or keep them and they will continue to be passed on. Me and my buddy were just talking about this. We see more good records in thrift stores as people our age and older are passing away. It's good to find them and save them, but it also means we are getting older!

    • @alansaxton86
      @alansaxton86 5 лет назад +1

      @@liverust5 exactly and that's what I don't want to happen. The youngsters nowadays have never heard of Vanilla Fudge or Blind Faith and I can't imagine them even listening to The Concert for Bangladesh. There must be others like us who have the same problem. I was thinking about a music recording studio that works with young people so they might have a record bank.

    • @liverust5
      @liverust5 5 лет назад

      Well, I wouldn't about it, vinyl will have lots collectors for awhile and even if they go to thrift store, may end up in hands of people who want them eventually. Me and my buddy have 1000s of records, we buy and sell them, if we die, whatever, they either get saved by our families and passed on to people who want them or not. Either way, the music will live on!

His honest emotional and insightful songs sung with the seemingly endless array of styles has gotten me through many difficult times and been the soundtrack to the last 37 years of my life. Sadly had to sell my beloved albums when poor. I would gratefully inherit any that need to be cherished and played constantly. Peace. 🇦🇺🎶🎻🎙🎸🎹📻✌

    "And I said 'Oh, god, I'm so happy.' an' he said 'Why?' I said 'Not to have to be around you fuckin' people.'" Lol. Bob Johnston. Now _that's_ a classic producer.
    All of you Dylanologists already know this, but a little anecdote for the newbies:
    Most people think that when you hear "Is it rolling, Bob?" at the beginning of "To Be Alone with You" it's the control room asking Dylan if he's ready, when in reality it's the voice of Dylan himself asking Johnston if the tape is going.

    Have the entire "Travelin' Thru" box set available in Spotify and other sites like it. Most people are daunted by box sets: too many songs and much more expensive. That's why they sell the least. By having them available for everyone to hear at once people will be able to gauge whether they want to purchase it or not. More awareness = more sales. Samplers are not enough because the songs you allow to be available may not appeal to a lot of people. Have every song available and naturally more people will be able to hear what they like. Sometimes it takes just one song to make someone fork out the dough. And let's face it, Rock and any kind of music have long been dead and irrelevant in these times so the more you embrace technology and make your stuff available the more people will get to know of these vintage music and the better it will be for everyone. It's not just the money, we're talking history and culture here.
    If Elvis Presley and The Beatles can have their box sets available in Spotify in full then Bob Dylan can definitely have his too.

    Great respect to Cash for his early support of Dylan and for having him guest on his TV show. That took some guts because Dylan was still a very controversial figure in those days. Dylan was still thought of by the public as a leftwing radical who had written protest songs against war and racism and Cash’s TV audience was country music fans. But Cash was a pretty radical guy in his way. He opposed the Vietnam War early on and he always had sympathy for the downtrodden, the outcast, the prisoners. Cash had Pete Seeger on his TV show after Seeger had been blacklisted as a Communist for years. That really took some balls. The more I learn about Cash, the more I respect him and love his music.
