another great calming video)
Thank you!!
What a cute cat crying sound‼
Beautiful place Kyoto river water front and Arashiyama wasn't there ? Long time ago, I walked there toward banboo forest, too.
I will try look again around my local place for field recording.
Hi there!
I can only imagine how bustling Arashiyama must be right now. We were fortunate with our timing, but I heard from a friend that it was incredibly crowded just the other day. My best advice would be to visit either really early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the peak crowds. Enjoy your time there! :)
5:08 "I already saw amazing sounds to record". Yes, "saw". Love the way you work, Marcel. And shoutout to Libby, your composition and visual language are amazing!
I really enjoy all your videos and got myself a dpa 4560 based on your videos. Japan's booked for January, can't wait!!
That’s awesome! We hope you bring some gloves and a beanie:) We are here until February.
Wow wow wow. What a stunning and tranquil/peaceful place. I wish I was there right now. Absolutely stunning. I loved the DPA's as usual, and also the sound at the end of the boats on the river. What a truly special place. Great sounds as usual Marcel, and lovely filming by Libby (also like usual). You two are living your best life and I'm VERY VERY jealous ! ;o)
Thank you so much Simon! You were technically present with us:) You can also take a quick flight from Zurich and be there in no time:). During the day, it's pretty busy and really enjoyable early in the morning before the tourists arrive.
@@FreeToUseSounds OK, I'm going. I'll sell my wife and children on eBay and buy my ticket ! Wooo hooo.
As long as you don't have your assets on FTX you should be fine. :)
@@FreeToUseSounds Ha ha. Thankfully I didn't.
Thanks for recording Japan. I am very happy.
Thank you so much!
Your videos are looking very professional now, I can see (and hear!) that a lot of good decisions were made in te editing process. The blending between the incidental music and the natural sounds was very pleasing to me, the pacing of the video was spot on and I love the composition and framing choices Libby has made. I was meant to be working, but for 14mins I was just very engrossed in this video XD. I think that even if you were not interested in sound recording and stumbled across this video randomly you would become interested very quickly. Thanks for giving us this glimpse of Japan, I have never been before so for me it was very interesting.
Thank you so much for taking the time watching our videos and your honest feedback!
Kyoto is so beautiful in autumn even when the sun isn't shining. Arigato gozaimasu for another great sound exploration video. That was a welcome change after four hours of sound editing. And now its back to work for another four hours 😀
Viele Grüße - Til.
Thank you Til! Don't work too much. Germany's autumns are also beautiful so make sure you go on some walks in the forests!
Welcome to Japan! Kyoto is such a lovely place!
Thank you Alex! Oh yes. We want to go back next week and explore other areas around Kyoto.
woow cats song i love it !!!😍 thx for the video !
Thank you so much for watching!!
I wan see more ,,🤩
Beautiful crisp sounds! Is it 48khz?
Amazing!! I don't know if you know that, but there's a monkey park in Arashiyama, you were very close to it. Maybe you'd get some cool sounds from there as well. I actually miss some sounds from Japan - the sound of crows, the announcements in the trains, the traffic light's "be be boop - be be boop" sound when you gross the street, monks chanting etc...
Oh yes this park was very close but we decided not to go. Maybe next time :). We have more videos coming up from Japan and we make sure to include these sounds as well
Every time I look at your channel and beautiful places you visit and keep asking myself "how did Marcel decide it's a viable career". Meaning, doing the recording stuff on your own and knowing your future is secure. Do you have a Q&A about this, by any chance? 😅
Hello, Mark! This is a great question, and to be honest, nothing in this world is secure. We just don't put much thought or putting a lot of pressure on us and just do the things that come to our mind. We do have a podcast series where we talk about our struggles and biggest risk. It wasn't always easy that's what we can tell you :)
Ah, you are so lucky living in Japan. We were starting to visit frequently on hiking trips when Covid hit, and now we are basically stuck in China. When things open up I'll be coming to Japan again. I recommend Ohara, not too far away from Kyoto. Beautiful place. Japan is so weird its phenomenal and beautiful. Ah, I see you're in Arishiyama, I thought I recognised it. That's really nice too... there are a few really decent Yizakaya's there. Oh, and the Japanese toilets... Fantastic!
Hi! Oh yes the Kyoto area is so stunning! We're 3 months in Japan and in about two weeks, we're using our 2 weeks Shinkansen pass to explore other parts of Japan. :)
@@FreeToUseSounds Make sure you head up to Hokkaido, absolutely stunning up there. Btw, a quick question about the X8. Do you find the rechargeable batteries when fully charged don’t appear as fully charged in the device? I’m finding this with my DR-05X too, so it’s probably crappy batteries.
Oh yes Sapporo is on the list. The brown bears are hopefully sleeping by now :).
No the bar is always full when using the batteries. Did you change the battery format in the settings?
@@FreeToUseSounds No I didn't. I ddn't know that you could. I'll look into this.
Sapporo is nice but if you drive you can find some really nice places. I can't, but we used the trains to head around to Otaru, which is lovely and did a lot of walking around there. Loads of volcanos, it's phenomenal. Oh man, just need to get back to being able to travel internationally without it costing so much money. I'm flying home to UK in Dec and it's going to cost me GBP5000 just for the flight and testing alone. Madness.
I'll check the battery settings. Chat soon mate, your videos kep me jealous, but sane.
Oh yes you can change the battery format. Maybe that helps. Wow 5000 is crazy. :(
Lovely, lovely piece! Out of curiosity, how do you decide which configuration to use for a given situation? E.g., in this set of recordings, why not the VR / Rode mics? Thanks.
Hello, Edward. Thank you for taking the time to watch our video. Good question, and to be honest, this is a personal choice that changes depending on my mood. But I wanted to bring the Schoeps for this trip because of the night sound recordings. But having the best microphones isn't always a good idea. In our next video, you'll see and hear what I mean. :)
How do you travel with both backpacks? Did you put the camera bag in the hiking bag? I am setting it on my own adventure next year and would love any tips!
Oh no. Libby carried the camera bag while I had the Backpack. But when we travel to a new country, this backpack is inside my suitcase. :)
Hi, might I missed it, did you receive your QTC50? How is it?
Hi! Not yet. I asked yesterday and it’s on its way :)
Is your DPA4560 set microdot or did you get it terminated directly to XLR?
Hi Christopher. We're using two XLR adapter. You can find the link in the description. I thought about getting another version to try it out on a different devise.
The Schoeps DMS solution looks fantastic but WAY out of my budget area, I have had a project in the back of my mind to come up with a much lower cost DIY solution, this is one of those long term projects, you have any suggestions?
That's sounds really cool so make sure you keep on working on your project.
Is SOUNDDEVICE's equipment suitable for recording without drawing attention to others?
What about the microphone? :)
Is the high frequency hum issue on TASCAM X8 fixed? Also is microphone on the X8 still holding up since its mostly made of plastic?
Hi! Not on my machine :) but maybe newer version are fixed. Well, what do you think? Did it sounds good to you? The cat was recorded with the onboard microphones.
Hi, whats the name on the sound service you recomended that you connect to different sound libraries like yours and other online librarys. I forgot its name, but it worked well, you searched for a sfx, copied as much of the effect you wanted and pasted it directly in to the timeline.
Hi Joel! That's Soundly. Go to the website www.getsoundly.com and feel free to use the code "ftus2021". That way the first month of the Pro Version is free. But you can also just use the free version.
@@FreeToUseSounds Thanks, I was on browsing on your website and just found it! Havent used it in years, lets change that! It was good! Is there a tutorial how to add your libraries to the online aswell? Maby its easy, but if there is a tutorial I like to view it. Thanks for the lightning fast response!
Hi Joel! I thought I responded already but maybe I forgot to hit the reply button. We have already thousands of sounds inside the Soundly cloud. Just click on Sounds and add Free To Use Sounds. But these are selections and not all our sound recordings.
I wanted record birds by a lake, but there was a road near. Please tell me if it is worth to record nature sounds when there are sounds of civilization?
Hi Robert! We have the answer about that in our video that’s coming out tomorrow.
@@FreeToUseSounds wow, great! I will be watching then 🙃
Damn, I'm early
Glad you're here!
