Gutes Video. Ich bin auch interessiert am x8. Schön dass ihr ihn Mal gezeigt habt, und die Sounds die man mit ihm bekommt. Alles gute für euch. Bis zum nächsten Video
I love the ambience recordings in this video. And of course the footsteps. My resolution for this year: get up earlier. It's easier to get better recordings in the morning. And that's probably true anywhere in the world. Thanx for the beautiful pictures - viele Grüße - Til.
oh, that train sounds soooooooo cool, I've been very happy with my X8, glad you're using it --- great recorder (IMHO)!! thanks for the incredible video and sound captures as always!! Cheers, Michael
Great as always. Question what do you prefer to record with, between the Sony D100 & The Tascam X8? I have the D100 and love it, but needed 32 but float so I had ordered the X8 but ended up getting the Xoom F3 as I only need maximum of 2 channels. Would love to know your preference between the 2? Thanks!
You are in Japan right now! I always look forward to your videos. I am very happy that you introduced people to the wonderful places in Japan. thank you!
Thanks for the video. Once more, beautifully shot Libby! I was recording steam engines a few months back. Sadly the platform was so crowded that hardly anything was useable since it all was overlayed with screaming kids and talking adults.
Thank you so much! Oh yes we had something similar when recording Big Boy in and around Denver. I found several secluded spots and could record it. Where was that?
That guy officially counting people with an abacus-looking 19th century gadget is such an only-in-Japan quirky weird moment. Could imagine myself surviving more than a few days there.
Your videos are always so pleasant to watch, the relaxed videography, nice music and of course, all the sounds! One question about the X8, did they fix the high pitched sound in 96Khz+ recordings, as you mentioned in another video? Thinking about getting the recorder but that issue is troubling if it still exists.
Hi! Hmm, I'm not sure since there was never an official release? We bought one of the first sets, and if they saw the videos about that, I would assume they look into it and fix it.
@DreamNoiseFM @FreeToUseSounds FWIW I got X8 for Christmas and wasn't able to reproduce that issue (I can try again if you tell me how). On the other hand I am having that same issue in my brand new Zoom F3.
I don’t know if it’s my ears but I don’t hear a lot of separation in the X8, there doesn’t seem to be any air in it, it feels rather foggy (thick and heavy). The Sony D100 by comparison sounds beautifully oxygenated. I don’t know if it’s because it’s consumer level and therefore although excellent it’s not going to be like we hear with our ears, ie we aren’t listening to a digital recording. I’m a long time Bandcamp subscriber so I listen a lot to your work 😊
Your soundscapes is lovely! Thank you! What a ears do you use?..das any of recorders use bt or wireless connectivity with ears?…( as Roland r07 ha). i am using zoom h1n and that is too noisy..so am thinking to get upgrade..but what i want - is to have possility to record and hear what recording from a distance…for example to be inside and record and listen a rain outside..or even live loop it in ipad- to fx it.. Any thoughts or directions would be appreciated!)
Hi! This is a good question. The X8 is a good option because the size and design of the H8 may not be suitable for everyone. If you prefer 32-bit and 192kHz capabilities, the X8 is also the better choice. In terms of preamp and capsule quality, I am unable to make a comparison as we no longer use the H8.
Love the ambience of the temple, especially when the monk/priest walks by. The X8 seems much more portable than the Zoom F3. Have you heard/seen of the new Tascam X6?
Hi Marcel and Libby, I have the Tascam X8. I am looking for a sound bag to house the X8 for use on movie sets. Do you know of a good bag I could use for the Tascam X8 so I can move around the set without having to hold the recorder?
Some lovely sounds there for sure. I thought you would have maybe used the Sony too. The train at the beginning was very nice, as was the stream, and perfect timing for the Monk walking past to get some natural footsteps. Thanks Marcel. Very nice as usual. Hope you are both well, and please also say hi to Libby.
Ooooof I've been looking at the Zoom H6 for ages, and then I came across this! Is it worth paying extra for the X8 and 32-bit? Does the H6 still hold up today? 🤣
Hi Marcel and of course Libby!!! Marcel what are the settings you use with the Tascam X8 24 bit or 32 bit along with the 48Khz or 96khz or 192Khz when you are out in the field recording.I started my journey by watching you and Libby recording sound while out and about.
Great to see this. We'll be over and recording in Japan too, now that China has opened its borders. Great you are showcasing the X8, which I am using to capture the English countryside. Btw, why Tascam stand are you using, loving the way it grips metal rails.
Just curious what direction are the mics facing towards eachother or away? And what’s the wind screen. I have the same recorder and everything always way too loud I feel like it never works right.
Thank you for this video. I experienced a battery life problem. When work X8 with regular AA Alkaline batteries, only able to use for 45mins. Is this normal? thank you.
Oh, that's interesting. Typically, 4 AA batteries can provide up to 4 hours of usage without the inputs. However, the actual duration may vary depending on the initial power levels of the batteries. It might be worth checking their charge to better understand the observed battery life. AA batteries typically have a capacity ranging between 1000mAh (milliampere-hours) to 3000mAh, depending on the type and quality of the battery. Alkaline AA batteries usually have a capacity of around 1800mAh to 2500mAh, while rechargeable NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) AA batteries can have capacities between 1700mAh and 3000mAh.
Anyone know if Tascam devices let you crop recorded audio and playback on loop? I want to use for instrument practice. If the Tascam devices don’t have this, do you know if Zoom devices have the capability? Thank you

I finally got an answer from Tascam about the ultrasonic issue on X8. "Thank you for your interest in Tascam products. This was a problem in a few early production units. The problem has been fixed. Also Libby did wonderful job with the camera. I really enjoy both the sound and the picture.
I love how happy and genuine you are! The videography is also great! 👏🏻
Thank you so much Justin!!

Another well produced video. I like the aspect ratio changes that indicate narration or ambience so I can adjust the volume to best enjoy the sounds.
I also love trains! That sound at beginning of the video was amazing 🤩
Oh yes, the sound of the Shinkansen are just amazing.

We already went to Sapporo and Okinawa but didn’t made a video. We are back in Bangkok. So that’s the last video from Japan :((

Did the latest firmware fix the lines in the recordings from the Tascam X8?
Firmware 1.31? Let me check and I get back to you.
I just received a new unit. And the lines are still there. They are however very faint orange in RX.m, but they are still there.

Hi! No I still have that with this recorder.
Edit: I will check after the latest firmware update.
@@FreeToUseSounds thank you! Much appreciated 🙏
It sounded like it has noise gate or something on the subtlest sounds
There is absolutely no preamp noise on X8! When I set the gain to 70-80 on my Tascam DR-40, the noise is loud.
Please answer 🙏
Can the Roland CS-10em binaural microphone be installed for this Tascam x8 external mic 🙏🙏

Where did you get that dead cat?
This is the basic Tascam one and is alright. But I would recommend you get something better.
