Great tutorial! These steps are the hidden secrets to pro quality customization and ensure high durability of your paint job. Most customizers leave these details out or just don’t do it themselves so I applaud you for taking the time and effort to show us mortals. 😁
+Marvelocity_26 Thanks for watching! I'm happy people are getting good stuff out of it! I learned most of this on my own from fucking up my own customs. It's only recently have I learned to fully disassemble and make sure the prep work is good. Let me know if you want to see anything specifically! I'll be happy to try and give whatever "expertise" I have!
+Clay Orr You've pretty much showed me everything I need to know lol. Even started another custom using your methods! Already prepped and put back together lol. Worked perfectly.
Great video! I'm curious, though: do you sand all your surfaces before painting? Also, I noticed you didn't use primer; do you find that primer is unnecessary? (I'm completely new to customizing figures, and I've been watching a ton of videos, most of which seem to suggest that it's necessary to entirely sand every square millimeter of a figure and then prime it before painting. Just wondering if these steps are actually completely necessary. Thanks in advance!)
the super glue idea is clever! i never thought of that :) im gonna retool/repaint a few NECA aliens (because i like the SDCC exclusive repaint but im not willing to pay 5 times what id pay for a generic one of a similar build)
hi if my figure is supposed to be black color and i get a body like the wasp marvel legends black body do you think i still should dremel for paint rub anyway? I'm trying to make a storm john remit ver she's black mostly all over.
I'm sorry I bad in English , can you tell me what the materials of White bottle is ? And do you think need use sandpaper on body face to make the repiant Color will not easy to rub off? Thanks for your video
Bro, how about for Female marvel Legends where do i put holes before cracking? same areas as this bucky cap mold? thanks for the reply, id appreciate it.
Most paints can get damaged to some extent. Usually, to help reduce this: 1) Sand whatever you're painting first 2) Use a paint primer for plastics 3) Lacquer paint for plastic is the most durable. Enamel and acrylic are less durable, but the next step helps this along. 4) Use a clear topcoat. The first 2 steps give more of a surface for your paint to grip into. Lacquer is the most durable paint. But it dries REALLY quickly. So it's strongly recommended that you use an airbrush for lacquer paint. Using a clear topcoat creates a protective layer over the paint. Now if you do all of these steps, be very careful around joints. Painting them makes them thicker. So it becomes more prone to paint rub and makes the joint a lot stiffer. Sanding it down before painting (this makes the joint looser before painting) will help with this. But you still have to be careful.

As a customizer I really appreciate these videos! Always wondered how to safely crack open a custom and prep for painting! Thanks for doing this!

Thanks so much for sharing your techniques. This video series is exactly what I was looking for. :-)
are you going to post again? your videos are very informative
Great tutorial. Ive heard people talk about this but now i finally understand how to do it. Thank you!
Dose the glue dry and turn white and cruddy
The super glue trick it's awesome. Do you think you would need it for a figure that's been colored through the dye mothod?
Is the super glue used as a gloss or is it to hold the pieces together ? How do you put the other pieces together if they’re already glued ?
So to clarify, you dremmel out each joint so that when repainted the new paint wont rub?
Will the joints be loose when you put the figure back together

My man, where do you get the Dremel, please post it
“Next video” lmao it’s been 5 years
where can I buy the paint from? please help thanks

Seems very labor intensive. How much do you charge for the average commission?
Thank you, great vid!
you don't sand down the rest of the areas you plan on painting to help it adhere better?
You just need to use primer on those areas for the paint to adhere.

thanks for the reply, id appreciate it.
The modern female molds just pop apart. No cracking required
Best tutorial ever! 🤘😂🤙
thank you
Do you know any type of paint that you can't scratch off?
Most paints can get damaged to some extent. Usually, to help reduce this:
1) Sand whatever you're painting first
2) Use a paint primer for plastics
3) Lacquer paint for plastic is the most durable. Enamel and acrylic are less durable, but the next step helps this along.

ok so this is going to sound really stupid but why do you drimel the figure?
Do you ever prime the figure with a neutral black or white, prior to painting?
Oh so the super glue protects the paint job
Or instead of putting super glue on top of paint, just use enamel paint...
