That’s perfect thanks, I was actually planning on getting a couple of those storm shadows as they’re quite cheap now. So now I know how to turn them into Red Ninjas. 👍🏻
To be honest, I don’t know. As it’s boiling water I would think that the runner would warp or misshapen. I think the only way to know would be to test a figure (or something of the same material) in boiling water. If you do try, do let me know the result!
I'm really impressed with the results of the red. At the start I was thinking that the results wouldn't be that good. I'm pleased to see I was mistaken. I think dying, particularly for the joints, is a great option to go along with additional painting of the figure. A massive prep saver. When you did the black dye, did you save any of it to try and use later to see if it had the same strength with regards colour?
It is a huge time saver. What I’ve found is the strength of dye is all based on ‘cook time’ so the longer you cook, the darker the result. There was one knee cap I missed in the red and left it in the same length of time as the torsos and it was really dark compared to the rest. Didn’t save any black but from what I’ve heard the dye lasts if stored correctly
Is it possible to make a transparent colored figure? I saw a custom Superman figure with transparents blue arms n legs..really cool. Dont see really any vids on making transparent figures
Do you think this dye can make an already red figure a darker red? I'm planning on dying an Scarlet Spider body to make a custom Daredevil, hoping the dye turns it darker, what do you think?
Pop it all in a cut of boiling to hot water and then after a couple of minutes the plastic will be warm. Line it all up and use something hard to push them through, pliers work but be careful not to imprint on the plastic
They start changing almost straight away. Cool them for as long as you think. The longer the darker the dye goes. To be honest I do a lot of the process by eye
Depends on the brand, so far with Hasbro stuff I find that when reassembling if you run then under cold water once put together it tightens everything back up. Squeeze knees and elbows a little to help them reform
Can you mix different colors from this brand? I need a dark brown but they only make chocolate for the synthetic. Was thinking of blending chocolate brown with a little bit of the graphite to get a dark brown that’s close to black, but still noticeably brown in comparison.
I really hope you respond here. Is there any way to dye a Marvel Legends Hood torso but protect the neck and shoulders from the dye? I'm just trying to dye that shirt red but I have never had luck with cracking torsos so removing those parts isn't really an option.
Hey. If it is just the shirt you want a different colour then I’d say paint it. There shouldn’t be any areas that rub in just the torso if I’m reading your comment correctly
White works best as it’s a neutral colour for the dye to take to. If you add red dye to a blue base you’ll most likely end up with a darker blue/purple finish. You can still dye pinless, just remember to move the joints around during the process
Hello. I'm about to start my 1st ever custom and have a black figure I want to turn yellow. Do you have any advice on this using this method? Would bleaching the figure white 1st work? Many thanks
Not tried myself, but can’t imagine they would be any different tk other plastic figures. Although the squishy heads will dye differently than the hard bodies.
I hope Articulated Ninja Reviews finds this video and does a video on the snake eyes movie storm shadow titled how to get red ninjas for cheap as the snake eyes movie classified storm shadow isn’t that expensive online compared to he classic storm shadow we got recently.
This is amazing. I hate the paint rub when coloring joints with acrylic- great solution!

No problem dude. Hope this helps
Awesome video! I had heard that you had to boil acetone to dye plastic- I'm so glad that isn't the case!
Thanks for this. I picked up a few Storm Shadows in the recent sales and am planning the same thing so this video is perfect
Glad it was helpful!
Great video tutorial 😎👍 very informative
Very insightful video ,Mate Thanks for sharing
No problem 👍
Thank you mate!!
would this work on the phicen tbleague seamless bodies? they're rubber.

You can get transparent resin, so yeah I don’t see why not
You want to be careful with heat and the hard plastics that the torsos are made of because if it's got enough, the plastic will warp
Do you think this dye can make an already red figure a darker red? I'm planning on dying an Scarlet Spider body to make a custom Daredevil, hoping the dye turns it darker, what do you think?
How in the world do you get this little joint pegs back in after dye the parts. It is impossible
Pop it all in a cut of boiling to hot water and then after a couple of minutes the plastic will be warm. Line it all up and use something hard to push them through, pliers work but be careful not to imprint on the plastic
How long did you boil them before they changed color?
They start changing almost straight away. Cool them for as long as you think. The longer the darker the dye goes. To be honest I do a lot of the process by eye
When “bathing” them to separate the parts, do the joints lose their integrity at all when putting the pieces back together?
Depends on the brand, so far with Hasbro stuff I find that when reassembling if you run then under cold water once put together it tightens everything back up. Squeeze knees and elbows a little to help them reform
How do Captain America's boots fit on Magneto's feet?
Isn't the captain's leg hole too big?
I attached at the leg so it fit fine
Can you mix different colors from this brand? I need a dark brown but they only make chocolate for the synthetic. Was thinking of blending chocolate brown with a little bit of the graphite to get a dark brown that’s close to black, but still noticeably brown in comparison.
I actually don’t know as I’ve never tried that. Logic tells me it should fine. Do let me know though if you do it if it works or not
@@JacobsToys definitely will do. Can you dye a figure twice? Like if the first time doesn’t get dark enough?
Is it gonna work on at027 figure ???
Possibly. I don’t see why not, but I haven’t personally tried it on those
@@JacobsToys thanks. I have to try Lol and see it for myseLf
I really hope you respond here.

Do the base figures have to be white? I’m planning on turning a blue power ranger into a red one. Also, what if the figure is on a pinless buck?
White works best as it’s a neutral colour for the dye to take to. If you add red dye to a blue base you’ll most likely end up with a darker blue/purple finish.

Great video! The only thing I'm curious about is reassembly after dying. Would using hot water to re-soften the parts diminish the dying at all?
I haven’t found that to be the case personally.
Can you re-heat the dye water mix throughout the day for additional batches or will the quality go down over time?.
To be honest I’ve never tried. I tend to do everything in one sitting
i’m gonna do this but i have two questions. if i do this would i be able to use it again for cooking? and will it stain the pot?
I have a specific pot for dye as it does dye it
I have a mafex tasm 2 that I want to dye black, is there a way I can preserve certain colored plastics on the figure?
Also want to keep the clear plastic on the eyes
Once something goes in then it all gets dyed!
Only by removing the parts you want to keep a certain way
Hello. I'm about to start my 1st ever custom and have a black figure I want to turn yellow. Do you have any advice on this using this method? Would bleaching the figure white 1st work? Many thanks
Going from black to yellow you’d be better to sand and paint. Yellow is a difficult colour anyway but on a black base dye isn’t the answer
Can you spray paint a figure white and then dye them? I want to try dyeing a figure yellow but the figure I want to has has black on it.
To be honest….I don’t know. I’ve never sprayed and then dyed
How long is the process typically and thank you for your video
Nvm I heard you say 30 min sorry
Do you know if it's possible to dye a figure one color, say white, and then another color? would the dye hold the second time around?
*if the figure starts out lighter (eg white) the. You can dye it most Colours. If the figure is dark to begin with you can’t dye it lighter.
Can you dye he-man figures
Not tried myself, but can’t imagine they would be any different tk other plastic figures.
Although the squishy heads will dye differently than the hard bodies.
@@JacobsToys I'm going to try it . What's the rarest figure? Trap jaw, eternia, or ?
Great vid. Do they make grey dye? Or could I use the graphite and just do less time?
Yeah there’s loads of colours
Does the dye fade or bleed away? I wanted to do the dying method for some figures
I’ve not experienced bleed yet!

Why is it that dudes with British accents just seem to know more shit than other guys??
Thanks dude….or should I say ‘Cheers Mate’
@@JacobsToys great video as well. I just bought some dye on Amazon!! Thanks!
Awesome!
Just FYI, the "axe" weapons are called "Kama" (singular).
Nice one, thanks
Bye bye paint rub prep.....for now.
