Why I love GUILD WARS 2

- I play a lot of video games. I'm not always good at them and some of them I don't even play all of the content of the game.
One of those genres is MMORPGs. I have often pondered why I enjoy them so much, but I guess it doesn't really matter. You like what you like.
But one game in particular really grabbed me when I finally decided to take the plunge and downloaded it and that game is Guild Wars 2.
Guild Wars 2 is such a great game in so many ways and has so much character and will always have a place in my heart.
My last couple of videos were a bit on the critical side and so I wanted to make something about something I love.
And here it is.
#mmorpg #guildwars2 #gw2
Bit of a correction, as a few of you have pointed out, you can't buy the expansions from the cash shop, you have to pay real money but they go on sale often. But even with that info, I still stand by the claim that GW2 is great value for money :)
Its 7.50$ for HoTs and PoF. And the base game is free in full, not just to lvl 20 like in wow. Its fucking best bang for your buck ever.
That footage of the octovine event (the one where you fought the things at the gates and then dropped through a hole in the ground) is great because that expansion came out in 2015. All those people are playing 9 year old content. I haven't played many MMOs, but that strikes me as something special.
That is a really good point that I hadn't really considered at all. Kinda crazy. Something special indeed.
@@angerfartstv5071 old vanilla map is also full of people, especially the world boss events
It's the best gold farming in the game, of course people are playing it 😉
9 years! Now I feel old 😅😭😵
It also helps that each gate is a different difficulty level for the meta. East is the easiest where all you have to do is glide and drop bombs on the target. South is arguably the hardest as it requires push or pull skills and a good bit of cooperation between players to get the bombs to the target
I've been playing Gw2 since the beta and you made me fall in love with it all over again.
Thanks, that's awesome to hear!
14yr wow vet, XIV around 5yrs, found GW2 at start of covid. No more feeling like I have to do dailies or fall behind. Life happened and I had to take a 2yr break. Recently came back and I could jump right back in. No gear grind. No having to catch up on anything but story/exploration for mastery points. You get to do what you WANT to do, not what you feel you have to do to be viable. After the freedom GW2 gives I couldn't go back to vertical progression and that pressured neverending treadmill. Great video, summed up so much very well!
One more thing I forgot to add was legendary gear/weapons! Account wide usable simultaneously on every character of that armor class (light/med/heavy). Stat changeable to any stat in the game on the fly. Never ever have to replace gear again account wide. 2 types, Raid and open world acquired sets through achievements/ingame currency.
That's really great to hear from a veteran of the genre. It is exactly why I will always keep coming back to the game.
I haven't got on the legendary treadmill yet, but as we were saying, what's the rush? ;)
Also, thank you for the kind words.
i just started playing gw2 a couple weeks ago with a friend of mine, and it is honestly one of the coolest MMOs i’ve ever played. i’ve been a WoW fan for years, but i wanted something fresh, and this game delivered. i’ve currently got a lvl 20 asura guardian who makes me laugh every time he does a little hop and tosses his big warhammer over his shoulder when i start running. gw2 has so much heart, it’s really refreshing.
Glad you're enjoying it. I plan to go back and play around with my Guardian at some point but i'm continually distracted!
You have so much to look forward to and to learn. Take it slow and enjoy the journey, because there’s nothing like your first experience of anything, and no matter how many alt characters you create in the future, you’ll never get the same first impression as you are getting right now. So, take it all in and appreciate all of the love that went into making this game world. Welcome to Tyria!
Asura master race , this guy gets it ^
Definitely take your time. Also don't be afraid to hang out a little bit around outpost areas/map hearts. They usually also act as a hub around which dynamic events happen, in addition to being host to tons of random ambient dialogue (much of which in many instances can be absolutely hillarious. If you want a few examples there's a thread on the GW2 forum right now where players are quoting their fave ambient dialogue) :D
Welcome in! Always happy to have newer players around. As the others said, take your time. What’s usually not said is that your 1-80 leveling *is* the tutorial, not the intro you get with your race. Try things out, play with your skills, and above all, don’t be afraid to ask questions
Welcome! I love when new people put out a GW2 review. I have been playing for 11 years! Free to play up to 60 through the main story. Give it a try.
Does a free account cap at lvl 60? I thought all of core Tyria, including up to level 80, was free
@@TheShitSmith "The maximum level for free players in Guild Wars 2 is 60. Free players are locked to starter zones until they reach level 10, and they can't access the capital city of Lion's Arch until level 35. " - From google AI. You need one of the expansions for lvl 80. Path of Fire, Heart of thorns, etc.
@@TheShitSmith Core Tyria/Base game is max level(80) the expansions give u more stories/masteries and elite specs but u dont get any more level
the pic of Henry Cavill when you mentioned Josh Strife Hayes had me rolling :D
he is literally Henry Cavill from wish
I mean, if we're honest, what man wouldn't want to be a Henry cavill from Wish?Just a little drop of Cavill goes a long way lol
i wouldnt call him that.. Josh is the Gigachad of the gaming community
@ I see nothing derogatory in anything i have said! ;) As I mentioned previously, I'd kill for even homeopathic levels of Cavill, and Josh a good teaspoon at the very least! :P
@ my reply was intended for the guy who called him HC from Wish which is usually used for something of low quality and this is not the case here
@@COOLNESSS87 I am pretty sure Josh has reffered to himself as such in the past, but either way, I'm sure the op was not meaning to throw any shade on our beloved waiste coat man :)
Guild Wars 2 is the game everyone has heard good things about, but they haven't tried it.
Exactly this.
That implies that almost no one has tried it, but we are a big and thriving community. Granted, GW2 doesn't have millions of active players at once, but there's a good amount of players at almost every map and every activity, and you can find hundred of players at big events like Octovine. It's also true that this is not a game for everyone, but the people who enjoy it, will play it for a very, very long time.
Does it have raids
@@mrretired2715yes it has, on the expansions, but a low part of the players play it
Been playing since GW1. Its the only MMO I don't get bored or starts to feel stale. The community has a huge part to play in that.
I've got GW1 loaded and I'm gonna get to it one day I swear! I also have an original hard copy of the game that I found in a charity shop. I was just looking around when I went to drop some stuff up and I just saw it there on the shelf for a couple of quid. I literally can't play it because my computer doesn't have a disc drive but I felt like I had to buy it, it was like I had found a rare relic!
@@angerfartstv5071 the disc probably doesn't have a working key with it anyway so you would have to get the online version anyway. I have one too, but just so it can sit on my shelf because I like big box games
I keep playing other MMOs to expand my horizons, but I always just end up missing GW2 and ultimately end up going back to it. 12 years on and it's still far and away my favorite MMO
Yeah I bought it for the exact same reason, it is on display on the other side of the room!
Same f or me. I´m a "solo-mmo"-player that finds herself regular dragged in some smaller or bigger mass-events with others. But to be honest, after all the mmos i triedd over the years, the community of GW II is the best. Never found any other gamecommunity that is so little toxic, but so much helpfull. One of many points why i love GW II. The gameworld, the mechanics and aaaaaaaall that many stuff and happenings around you, sooooo much to do. I really hope they´re keeping the good stuff up. also in the next GW that will hopefully come.
I totally agree with you. I've heard rumblings about GW3, but I haven't really looked into it. I think at this point anet have earnt the trust of the fans, but we'll have to wait and see.
10:55 the first map of Janthir expansion is my favorite, feels so alive and cool!
Welcome to the fold, mate! I feel compelled to comment what I always do under these sorts of videos, which is that I'm happy you found this game even as it has already been out for years. It truly is one of those games that has kept me coming back many a time and still left me enough room to go off on different adventures elsewhere. Here's to many more great years to come! :)
Absoloutely!
I love that for the downed skills portion, you show the elementalist's downed skills. Anyone who's ever played ele is very familiar with that set of skills when starting out.
It’s the most complete MMO I’ve found, and I can take a break and not lose any ground. Also the ability to change spec on the fly whenever wherever is just awesome. I especially love how the levels scale per zone. I can boost to 80 but still go through the entire storyline quests and it lowers my level when I go to those lower level zones. I also really love the zone meta events.
A friend has just started playing and I am looking forward to running through all the old areas again with him.
I just back after some long break. Still feels at home and cozy. Still i have my shit worthy , still i have tons of progression and achievements to accomplish. Still have to get to t4 fractals. In 3 years whenever i logged in casually the world was full. Everywhere.
Each time someone thinks or says that Guild Wars 2 is dead, another new account is born❤
Your video came at the right time for me. Made me realize what i have missed all this years. Thank you. +1 sub
Thank you very much, that's nice to hear!
Great video, really highlights a lot of the charms of GW2!
excellent video. this is bar none my favorite mmo and it's really nice to see much of what i like articulated by a well-spoken newcomer; feels rather like living vicariously. we're glad to have you on tyria
Thank you very much, it is always nice to be told I'm well spoken! 😉 I'm glad to be in Tyria.
Love the content!
The exploration of your favourite areas was so nice to see. As a fun little content creator tip, holding CTRL + SHIFT + H hides all hud elements.
Can help with the immersion.
Thanks for the tip! I know hiding UI is a thing but I just never thought to look it up! 😂
Glad you enjoyed it, although I don't know if I did cover all my favourite areas as there is too many to remember!
What really impresses me is how ANet managed to make an undead area without it being grey and brown.
Great video man, its gave me some inspiration to give the game a try. How do you only have 267 subscribers i dont know but im gunna sub, you deserve it
Thanks mate, that's nice to hear. Hopefully it is just because I haven't been making videos very long :)
this is a great video, i have stopped after soto but i might pick it up again after this again because i honestly miss it.
Go back to the cheese and have a little nibble every now and then. The Guild Wars way ;)
guild wars 2 is an amazing game
there is so much to do! fractals, raids, wvw (my fav) or crafting a legendary
the elite specs are also one of th ebest features you get a new way to play a class
Oh for new players. Try to figure things out yourself before asking, but if you are stuck on a quest or something in game. Just Yell out in Zone chat. "I need help with X." (Shift linking the closest waypoint helps too.) You will get whispers within minutes offering help. (always give it 2 minutes after asking. People might be in the middle of an event).
You've convinced me to give gw2 a good shot, thanks!
Awesome! That's great.
I would add one thing regarding looking at guides for builds. Not locking yourself into the "current hotness" build that's 1% better under ideal conditions so you see it everywhere, definitely. Most builds you see often lack that warning noting "Hey, this is optimised within an inch of its life, you don't have to go this far".
However, a thing that's often overlooked is encouraging newer players or people still learning some systems to look at a build guide, and then kinda reverse-engineer the *why* of how it's made. Stuff like "Grant yourself Regeneration when you have Resolve", then taking that and looking through to see "okay, now where does Resolve come from with how this is built?" lets you start to peek behind the curtain. There are a lot of things slot in with one another, and looking at a build that somebody really well-acquainted with the systems has put together with things that work well together can be a great learning experience and jumping-off point for experimenting.
Oh definitely, I think depending on how serious you take it, guides are probably inevitable at some point, but I do think that before that point as adventuring in the overworld is pretty forgiving, players can afford to place fun before optimization, as you say.
From WoW since 2010, to GW2 since this year, it's the best decision I've ever made. Your progress is never lost by any yearly resets, game feels rewarding, there are players everywhere(and A TON of them). Mount system is the best in MMOs, you can find the perfect class for combat by switching weapons/specializations/class itself. What a lovely game.
It is indeed a lovely game!
The main issue I have with the game is how much it relies on boons to get anything done in endgame content. It feels like you’re forced into playing a certain way, which can get a bit restrictive.
Also, this is more of a personal nitpick, but I’m not a fan of the super cutesy vibe. I get why it appeals to some people, but I usually prefer darker, grittier tones in fantasy games instead of the anime-style, light-hearted approach.
I do see what you mean and it is obviously a stylistically subjective point, but it does edge towards some pretty cute looks, and usually in other games that would bother me more but for some reason it doesn't get to me in GW2. Whether that is because there is too much other stuff I like so it just ends up being a net positive I don't know.
I quite like a bit of colour in my games, I think it helps me want to spend more time in them. Sometimes when things are a bit too dark and gritty I just find it a bit oppressive at times. I guess it is hard to strike a balance, you need to be one thing or the other otherwise you're neither.
I see what you mean about the boons, but isn't it the same for any endgame content in a MMO.
I would argue that the system in GW2 is more flexible than in other MMO's. If anything the limitations are more community imposed because it's easyer to coordinate with randoms when you have fixed roles. You can even raids with a party composed of 10 people with the same class. Try that in any other MMO.
I transitioned to Guild Wars 2 from FFXIV, and boy, it was the best decision and experience I've had in any MMORPG. The laid-back vibe, exploration, immersive open world, and the joy of collecting-it all just feels RIGHT.
Totally agree with the laid back vibe and exploration. Love it.
You had mentioned something about wondering what it’s like for someone who has never played an MMO before getting into GW2. I can tell you about a friend who had not only not played an MMO, but it was also her introduction into gaming in general. Her friend wanted someone to play with and convinced her to not only buy and play it, but to boost to 80 and go with him into HoT. Needless to say, this guy sucked and she was quickly overwhelmed and confused. She responded to a guild recruitment ad and found some people who were willing to be patient and help her as she learned and sorted things out. I think Guild Wars will always be one of her core games and I’m lucky to have her as a friend
That's a great story! The further I got down that sentence the more I winced at each part, especially the "boost to 80" lol. Christ that must have been fucking madness! I'm glad that the community came forward and helped her out and even in what must have been a really confusing experience coming completely new to everything, it is interesting that there was something in the game that still caught her interest and made her push on with the game and not just give it up. Great stuff!
You hit it on the head and @angerfartstv made the same point. The only slightly toxic environment in GW2 is PVP. Otherwise the entire player base is happy too and even rewarded for being helpful.
guild wars 2 is amazing.
I've played several MMORPGs, but none of them managed to keep me going for so long and always have so many new things to do even though I've been playing for over 9 years.
It's a game that everyone should try, when I tried it with a friend of mine when it became free, my friend lost a companion in Lineage 2 to guild wars 2.
I'm getting a lot of comments like this and it is a testiment to what arenanet do to be able to keep people so engaged. I know a lot of people have been playing WoW for 20 years and many other MMORPGs have dedicated fanbases but Anet don't have the same kind of resources and name recognition as Blizzard. I think that when people try GW2 and get into it, they can see there is something special there.
Fun tidbit about GW2 races - They all somewhat break convention. Humans and Sylbari are the opposite of what you'd expect, with sylvari being the young, starry-eyed race that's looking for its place in the world (a la humans in every other fantasy), and the humans instead are the ancient, well established, deeply magical and religious culture with sophisticated history and style (aka elves everywhere else).
And even Charr are interesting, they're more than just a "furry bait race number 3", they have a very robust and specific vibe, interesting and unique story, as well as the rather unorthodox choice to have them be less traditionally humanoid and sexy (at least, to the layperson) as is evident to the women having no breasts, and all of them being rather bestial and scrungly. Compare that to WoW, which has the classic fantasy dimorphism where the male beast races are pretty full of character and have a unique silhouette - then all the females are just a busty, curvy woman with an animal head and pretty eyes that look like a cosplayer next to their male counterparts.
That is interesting to know. Conforming to some tropes whilst going against others. I do think there is a lot more lore for people to explore than meets the eye. I'm thinking of looking into the books next (well, audiobooks at least).
I like to describe Char as WWI war crimes personified.
I've never understood the "furry bait" trope around charr. If they were really furry bait, they would at least have tiddies
@@angerfartstv5071 Interesting point to note about Humans in the GW2 setting. They are literally aliens. The Six brought them to Tyria about 2500 years or so prior in the timeline and basically said "Here's a new world, have fun. Oh and keep worshipping us." Humans proceeded to conquer a significant part of Tyria before being pushed back by the natives in certain regions and now a balance of sorts has been established :)
@@AlaiaSkyhawk that is interesting. Kind of reminds me of a fantasy book i read once called Orcs, but a bit different. I think I'm definitely due a proper lore exploration soon.
Great video, i love it.
On that begining think, i play game since 2018., but i woched it playing from begining. My junger brother, gamer, wos playing it from lounch all day long for 2 years as a mein game. Later 6 years as he upgraded comp i could put togeder something that i could try my first mmorpg in life. I played before in my colege days games like Fallout2, 3 and 4, Skyrim, and some others... Now u play only Guild Wars 2 werry casualy but i love it. I loved first 2 years my free-to-play gameplay as much as now wen i have up to date with story and all. Just hard-core endgame, Raids, chalenge mode stuff and PvP i avoide, i am still noobe there but i have allmoust all Legendary Armors and trinkets, round 10 Legy-weapons and its soo CooL. Game is as good as comunity of players around it.✨️🐣✨️
One correction to what you said in the video, you can’t buy the actual expansions with “in game” currency, but you can buy all of the Living World chapters, which are like expansion content, but different. The real expansions can only be purchased with real money, but they go on sale often and are an incredible value for the amount of content you get for not much money spent. I personally think that GW2 gives the players more for their money than any other MMORPG.
Thanks for the correction! As you say, even having to buy the expansions seperately, I still think the value proposition is good for the amount of content you are gonna get, plus as you point out the expansions go on sale regulary.
You can buy deluxe edition of expansions for gems which can be bought by gold which can be farmed daily with wizard vault.
@mortalux, What you’re talking about is an upgrade to the deluxe version and you have to first buy the expansion with real money. Then you can upgrade it to the deluxe versions with gold converted into gems.
i promise everyone here, core maps are fun and beautiful! Expansions are even better! and the mounts are best in the mmo world, lastly the community is so helpful! even if your anti social i still recommend finding a casual guild (highly recommend)
Completely agree.
Very fun and honest video! Also generally well researched, but I do have to nitpick one pretty major point: You cannot buy the expansions for gems/the premium currency. They are strictly bought with real money. What you were thinking of were the Living World Seasons, which you can buy for Gems indeed ^-^
Hope you'll continue to have lots of fun with the game. Seems like you really found a good fit for you.
Yep, someone has already pointed that out, I thought you could but turns out I was wrong. But even with ths new info, I still think it is a great value proposition, which I think says a lot for the game. Thanks for taking the time to comment :)
discounting the dragons arc hurts after nearly 12 years of the game those dragons really played a level of awe and wonder and speculation
Yeah I could see that. As I came to the game later, I perhaps can't appreciate what it would have been like to live through each expansion as it came over such a long time. How do you feel about the newer direction?
Guild wars 2 by far my favorite mmo. I have always loved the open world but then I really got into wvw about 8 months ago and I’m in a big wvw guild where a bunch of us run daily every evening for a few hours and you become friends with everyone and talk over teamspeak and it’s a great time. You get some really good loot through wvw doing reward tracks n weeklies. Always plenty to do every week
Just another part of GW2 I want to spend a bit more time on but there is just so much to do and a load of other games sitting in my steam library as well! I'll literally be playing this game for decades before I get to everything.
There are many strengths to GW2 but there's one that stands out compared to my most recent WoW experience.
I bought the most recent expansion (War Within) and subbed for one month, hoping to get through the story with a friend. We did, but the balancing was totally out of whack. I was utterly underpowered, I may as well not have been playing, my friend's character was so much more powerful. The difference? He had gotten about two levels ahead by doing a bit of mining/herbalism on the side (not getting any gear, he avoided that on purpose). So that tiny difference basically ruined the game until I caught up in levels. This isn't some obscure corner-case with Chromie Time, it's levelling up in the latest expansion. So much for playing with friends!
Meanwhile, on GW2, I've been showing a new player around. My level 80 character is more powerful than his level 20-ish character, but the difference is MUCH SMALLER than the WoW division I spoke of above. GW2 has a scaling mechanism in play and it works well enough that if you join a lower-level friend you aren't a powerhouse, and you aren't just ruining the game. You even get meaningful loot and experience.
GW2 also doesn't have server barriers and faction barriers. You can play with anyone in your region (NA/Europe).
That's interesting. I really enjoyed War Within, but I played it solo as I didn't friends to play with, but that is poor balancing indeed if you can be marginally higher level and it effects the gameplay so severely.
@@angerfartstv5071 What's peculiar is that Blizzard have done this right, or at least better, at previous times in the past. I guess this time around they just thought it didn't matter. Perhaps this suggests a certain mentality that balance matters only in end-game?
@@D16Nichevo they clearly see the levelling process as a solo endevour, which is fine, and I play a lot of these games solo, but you should overlook the aspect of levelling with other people. Especially as some people might not want to do end game at all, but will want to play through with their friends.
I'm someone who plays all professions/specializations (including core specs) from core to the lastest expac, and while core classes can still hold up in later expacs, it's not as fun as using any of the specializations. I dunno how else to explain it haha
played gw2 casually from 2017 until last year. have around 1000+ hours in it but wanted something fresh new so I am enjoying WoW now for the very first time. Both great games
I'm always switching games, but I always come back to GW2. At the moment I am playing through WoW Vanilla Classic and having a good, if not frustrating time.
Nice to see a more current photo of Josh in the mix. Great game, I just....I can't settle into a class for some reason.
Sometimes that's just how it be :)
22:50 it will not. That is why GW2 is not as big as it maybe wants to be. I have played basically every mmorpg on the market since I was 9 and the problem with GW2 is that it IS everyone-gets-everything over time with no resets or races. This appeals to a lot people, I have nothing against it. But it's dishonest to say that this appeals to a hardcore audience - the PVP, absolutely, the rest, no. You will simply not find WoWs raiding, dungeon or solo boss difficulty. GW2 endgame can be completed in pugs with 0 voice comms. There is just no comparing it.
That does NOT take away the fact that GW2 is a GREAT game. I love ESO and FFXIV, too, but I want an mmorpg that COMBINES a lot of what these games does right. I want ESO world building, houses and immersiveness, FFXIV STORY and extra fluff content, GW2 dyes and mounts and WoW content pushing.
That's a fair point, I think that perhaps the issue may be with my usage of the word 'hardcore' and how it relates to other MMORPGs out there. Like perhaps I should have used words like depth or something that conveys more that you can play it very casually or you can sink a load of time into the different systems and get deeply involved. But from the way you describe the hardcore element in relation to other games like WoW, you are right. It is useful to re-evaluate what does hardcore mean in context of MMORPGs - I shall ponder that.
It's fine Hardcore is never the demographic that makes an MMO a success in terms of number and popularity. Wow is proof of that, it was made as a more casual game at the time and it's why it exploded with so many people playing it over the years.
No other MMo will ever get the succes of WoW as it was a game of it's time and has retained people in the game because of time invested in it.
Nowadays a MMO succeeds if they are able to maintain a good number of players and maintain a good community and I think GW2 and FFXIV are proof of that. WoW is still no1 and will probably stay there for a long time if Blizzard manage to stop pissing off their most loyal players, and arte able to get new players to play the game.
@@goglux2 yeah it would be interesting to see some statistics on the percentage of mmo playerbases that quialify as "hardcore" if we classify that as fully involved in end game content. I suspect it would be quite a small section of the overall playerbase.
I'm sure all decisions on who to target when developing the game has been market tested to death before they go ahead and do it.
Your voice audio dominates the right channel. Have a look at that ;)
Thanks for letting me know!
GW2 is the closest I've ever come to finding an MMO that I could stick to and enjoy it. I love how they handle exploration, events, character customization, and single-player combat. The problem is that I had to say single-player combat because multiplayer content just entirely missed the boat for me. I like the action half of the combat system, which is great when you do some back and forth with a foe or few. Unfortunately, everyone just runs past everything that does not need to be slain, stacks together like a blob, and if its actually harder than not at all, you're holding your party back if you're not using a great build and especially if you are not using a good rotation.
But it's still easiest to say that my ideal MMO is "GW2 but with Monster Hunter quality action combat." Its foundation is too good!
I would play the shit out of a proper monster hunter mmo
@@angerfartstv5071 Wilds is utilizing 100 player lobbies, with 16 hunters visible in the hubs/bases at a time, and party mechanics on top of it. While not a MMO, it sounds like it could feel MMO-lite enough.
I started 3 months ago and I'm loving it so far
Which class did you choose or are you trying them all out?
I met my wife playing GW2. She travelled half-way around the world to come live with me. We still play together. These days I'll play for a few months, then go play something else, but I always come back sooner or later. Even if I'm no longer as patient with some of the annoying shit the game has, it still holds a special place in my heart. The day we leave for good is gonna be hard, cause it's what brought us together.
What a great story. No game is perfect, obviously, but like you I dip in and out knowing that I can always come back.
I still haven't even tried GW1, and there's so much GW2 left to do that it may never happen! 😂
It's on my giant list! Luckily I'm not a completionist otherwise I would never get anything done!
I think I watched you playing this one on Twitch! Looks familiar
You did indeed mate! I remember that.
Coming from WOW, I must say that the friendliness of the gw2 community is commendable. There's some toxicity here and there but that's to be expected from an mmorpg, its non-existent comparing it to the toxicity level of wow.
Yeah this was a big thing for me. I know there are definitely loads of helpful and friendly people in WoW and recently I have been playing Classic Vanilla and interacting with people more and having a nice experience, but in general when I started playing GW2 that was definitely something that felt noticable with regards to its community.
Amazing MMORPG and I love it too
I picked the game back up almost 2 years ago because I didnt like the game at launch because I was expecting gear progression(I was at school with a lot of time on my hands well not anymore). I think the OG team created a masterpiece. I like the combat so much I won't be able to play another MMO ever again(I tried TAL but the combat is so bad). I've been playing the PVP and WvW 99% of the time and I'm really amazed by the deep combat system. Why I'm starting to cut back on the game is I farmed Legendary WvW gear that was so grindy I burned out from the game. Not because of the gameplay but because the Balance is dog**** the balance team is doing a really poor job. 4 updates per year to the WvW and Pvp modes are not enough so what happens is you are fighting the 4 most meta specs for up to year and a half at a time. When I started playing PVP the Spellbreaker was overperforming and they buffed it like 4 patches in a row making PVP absurdly unplayable. They finally nerfed it 3 months ago but Spear Willbender and Spear Mesmer still remain.
The little updates they are doing to WvW actually impact the game in a negative way - new Scoring System and Siege.
And people are hacking in WvW and anet is not doing absolutely anything
That's interesting to hear from someone who plays so much pvp and wvw and I do think it would be great to see them dedicate sometime to those game modes as they do need and deserve some attention.
there is some core specs like guardian, engineer and thief that can still be top tier the parity though is elite specs typically have alot of crazy unique play style
I've found that whenever someone brings up real world politics in the game, they get flamed to oblivion. "I'm here to play a game" is what you hear often in this case. I love that attitude.
There is a place for discussing real world politics in GW2 or any other game, but just like in life, you choose who, when and where you raise it. If you want to have that conversation with guild mates, fine, in local area chat, probably not so much.
@@angerfartstv5071 I'm not really of the opinion RL politics have any place in any game in general. But what others do in their privacy of their own guild/whisper chat is not my concern, sure.
back in the day i made around 1k gold a month selling crafting mats i got from the login Laurels
i love this game too, but im about to lose my mind crafting aurora XD
I've been playing GW2 for 9 years (currently on a short break). I also played WoW from Cata to DF on and off. I can say that GW2 has better quality than WoW. We might not have the best graphic, story, class balance etc. But our community has the most welcoming and the nicest players (except for spvp community 😅)
I love how the game respect our time and our in game wealth and progression still matter even if we are not playing for years. Old maps are full of people that are leveling, exploring, meta events, gathering, and doing achievements. In every major events in a map there is going to be another people who join that event.
Your gold and map currencies are going to be used in many ways especially to earn gold. Crafting legendary weapons, armors, and accessoriesis are not a necessity but it does have it's features and most importantly: bragging right and cool skins. Legendary equipment's stat value is not different than standard ascended equipments but you can freely change it's stats, runes, relics and sigils.
I think the point you make about people still playing the older content is really crucial. I still play WoW retail and at present I am currently playing through the classic vanilla content. The original content for that game si just sort of forgotten and left behind and only enjoyed if you literally go back and play the old game. In GW2, they do a great job of keeping everything relevant and I don't think I can remember going anywhere in Tyria and not seeign someone else whizzing about.
As one of the players who’s usually on until very late at night, I can say it’s pretty rare to be the only one on any given map on the NA servers. There are world bosses and events advertised for with solid attendance at 3am like Triple Trouble
@@sevenember3332 Same I play off and on different hours. Anybody who says this is a dead game is obviously a console or jealous WoW player.
as a launch day head start veteran i personally felt the game was better, the progression system was closer to oblivions, the pvp felt cleaner and less of a cluster fk of unbalanced cock fights... and the wvw felt clearner for players and more funny with alot and i mean alot of very drunk or very stone aussied commanders running around
Hey i have questions i just start the game too. I play with steam but i use "-provider Portal" at launch. If i buy expansion from steam can i use it at that account?
I'll be honest I don't really know, but I did google this thread which would suggest that perhaps expansions will only be on your steam account. Worth a bit of research.
www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/wyj8bl/questions_about_running_gw2_on_steam_using/
Yea no, it will get added to your Steam account which is NOT your external anet account from before
@@angerfartstv5071 ok
@@ccciel000 I thinkk ill make new one and stick with the steam this time
Actually I tried gw2, then I got involved into argue with group of players and I was called ignorant for calling male character "him". I think this would be great if topic of genders would be totally forbidden. I'm so tired of this sh*t. Despite this one incident I really enjoy the game
I feel like there is probably a lot of context I am missing from that exchange and not allowing discussion of gender seems a little bit extreme in my opinion. Maybe that group of people shouldn't have gone hard on you, or maybe they were right to do so because of something you said. Like I said, I don't have the context to know who was in the right adn there are two sides to any argument. At the end of the day, you had an unpleasant exchange with some people in the player base, you shouldn't let that colour your opinion of the entire playerbase or the game. Like I said in the video, I have had plenty of experiences in WoW and other MMORPGs where there has been straight up racism, homophobia or transphobia, so that's just the internet I guess, but I will still play the game if i enjoy it. And it looks like you do still enjoy it, so that's good.
Yep GW2's community is quite sensitive 😂 quite witch hunting as well though. And it sucks that nobody's talking about it. 🙃
Just avoid towns and map chat in general and you'll be good, don't think about people and you'll enjoy the game.
Here
Most GW2 players do the same:
-Join a group
-No greetings
-Follow commander
-Kill the NPCs/bosses
-Loot
-Leave, not even typing a word.
-Profit.
seeing u loot that way gave me ptsd XD there is autoloot my brother in Christ
I'm sorry mate, what can I say? I'm a messy and inneficient gamer xD
If I start playing this game now as a newbie, would I feel like I'm 10 years behind ?
I started playing GW2 almost 2 years ago and I’ve not felt this way. I love how much content there is to discover, and the journey to 80 is just one part of that! There are lots of new players and the vet players are very helpful!
Nahh u wouldn’t
just in terms of story lore, in terms of power it might fell like that BUT it will be 'cos the experience up to lv 80 is a big tutorial and after that is just horizontal progression (core gear from 12 years old content is still relevant). Once you reach lv 80 and get an expansion you start leveling up masteries which is a system that let you traverse the world of that expansion in a more convenient way. In terms of gear once you reach lv 80 and start getting exotic rarity you are good to go to any early endgame content.
I have never once felt behind, but I do play these games from a more casual perspective. I would just look at it like you have waited for all the episodes of a TV series to drop before you binge watch them all. You have so much content available to work through. And it starts good and only gets better the further in you get.
No, because there's no gear treadmill.
I like GW2 but i do hate the paid inventory/qol stuff, if you are not fine w dropping a games worth on QOL dont bother playing. (try it out and decide if its worth, personally i enjoyed the game almost 400h)
That is definitely a consideration and something you need to be aware of, but like you say, you can get a lot of milage out of it before you need to commit any money.
72GB is a bit much for a game for me but hey, Might as well give it a try if it is free.
I hear ya, the games just keep getting bigger as time goes on!
24:51 the comment says around 1600 gold for all the expansions. thats really good thats less than a legendary
Not expansions, it's the expansions *DLCs.
For expansions you need real money.
I have not played WOW for years! I never could get into it as much as I’ve gotten into GW2. Plus there’s no monthly subscription which is way better imho
I always wonder how much of my affection for WoW is just based around nostalgia for my own past. I will always love that game, but GW2 was just a different experience that left a mark on me.
you me and every fire wizard ever wish the core specs were better, haha seriously, i did have an idea but it probably wouldn't work, which is make the 3rd slot and elite slot and buff which every spec in the 3rd to make them better.
That is a good idea! I think it was on a necromancer I sort of made a build and then was dissapointed when I had to face the reality. I like your idea .
@@angerfartstv5071 yeah, this is the feeling i get every time i log into my ele, its my older oldest character now it just sits their collecting birthday rewards because i just cant get into any of the elite specs for them
Hnery Cavill. LMAO. Sub for you! :)
Why thank you! :P
Guild Wars 2 is a great game, but for me after playing since it's release has gotten quite bored of it and the same goes for WoW.
No one can be expected to playthe same game forever. Tastes change and we all need to try new things. I suppose in a way I like that about GW2 is that I can just put it down for a long time and come back to it when I feel like it, a bit more than say WoW. But, it is importnat to have a bit of veriety and try new things.
Try playing with bloom off in settings
I'll give it a go, but I kind of like the bloom. Which may be an unpopular opinion know! 😅
FFXIV is about 250-400h hours of purely just reading boxes of text dashed with beautiful but easy boss fights until you reach endgame.
I recommended you have a look at Oohboy's video on the modding scene
I really want to get in to it so I'll check that out. Cheers.
i left early in the game just because i felt like im playing a talking/delivery simulator 😂
That is a somewhat surface-level summary of FF14, but having played all of FF14s main story, I will not deny that it is true. HOWEVER, in those 250-400 hrs that game has told me one of the most epic and well-written fantasy stories of all time and literally changed my outlook on life. Plus, there is a lot of major side content as well as lifestyle content to do while you're experiencing the story. So if you pace yourself, it is doable. Literally tens of thousands of people have done it. :)
@@donmarelioI struggled with my adhd and wanting to play wity friends. But i tried my hsrdest to follow the story. Even redid arr and write notes. It is not easy to follow because the gameplay of it is worse than just straight up reading a book. I wish it was more than box of texts.
I got over 5k hours so i still gave it a good go. Just feel like the story suffers from its gameplay
It is on my list to get through it all. I'm probably going to document the process as well so you all have that to look forward to! :D
My advice from a duelist/ wvw roamer is get into pvp as soon as you can. WvW is by far the best aspect of GW2, and the sooner you get involved the better you'll be.
I've had some great fun in world vs world, even if I am not very good at it. I think it is just another element of the way GW2 caters to the casual and hardcore alike.
@angerfartstv5071 very true
if you are not a gay man yourself, why does your voice sound so? ;)

@@sasasale1157 why thank you very much 😎
I guess I must just be a straight dude with a gay voice then 😂
Is that a furry in the thumbnail?
I guess so. If we want to be more specific, a gay muscle cat furry.

I think he mite like pink
Pinksoloutely! Only fitting for a Mesmer main ;)
Anet only focus on the casual gamers and not on the hardcore players or comeptive players
and basically everyone is plkaying on EU
Well, whatever they are doing, I like it. I guess it is a balancing act and you can't please everyone.

I loved Guild Wars 2 years back. Was going to recently hop back in,but i saw they require you to buy each expansion seperatly now, which is...just way too much money to justify coming back tbh. Im not buying 3 expansions just to have the full game now.
That's fair enough. I would say that you could buy them one by one and complete one before the other, but that won't appeal to everyone I guess.
During the Evon Gnashblade Birthday Bash event they had the Complete Collection (HoT, PoF, EoD, and all the associated living story seasons) on sale for just £45. That's about 3 1/2 months of subs for WoW, for 10 years of GW2 content. Even without the discount the bundle is crazy value (Every Living Story season is basically equivalent to about 2/3 of an expansion all on its own). When you consider that GW2 does not have a monthly sub (and considering what you'd pay for a similar amount of content for a console game) GW2 is very very good value.
If you don't want to buy the Living Story Seasons with cash, you can always just play the game and when you've enough gold to do so exchange it for gems and get one of the LS season bundles from the gemstore that way. The expansions go on individual discount quite often and the older ones are extremely cheap when they do.
Just come back with what you have currently. Your presence will enrich the game for other players, and im sure there are plenty of things to do for you to get hooked again in the core game. :)
The whole collection tends to go on sale like twice a year. Keep an eye out for the deals. Also, there’s a ton of content so don’t feel like you need to get everything ASAP.
wtf, look dated? wow has literally cartoon graphics tho mate 😭💀
What does GW2's graphics have to do with WoWs? I wasn't aware it was a competition. I like both for different reasons as they are different styles. They are dated in places, doesn't mean they look bad.
Gw2 is the best mmorpg on the market hands down. Its the most mmorpgish the most classic fantasy like, the best progression system with short and long term goals.
Gw2 is ass get on gw1
It's in my Steam library. Once I have finished my video series on Vanilla Warcraft, it may well be next.
I still love GW2 though :P
Lost me with the rainbow
As in, the one on the thumbnail? Well thanks for clicking on it just to let me know. I'll sleep better now.
Rabish game, everything is locked, horrible ui, they are woke as fk better watch what you say, fighting feels like wet nuddle no feedback press the button and hope for the best, and much more, i only keep playing it cos i have legendary and there is not much else out there.
Doesn't really sound like you're enjoying it anymore, mate. Maybe you should play something else.
Brother go outside lmao
Clearly, it's not the game for you. You should be on the lookout for a game more oriented toward assholes. Give 'League of Legends' or 'Ark: Survival Evolved' a try, they have loads of people like you in them.
