THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! I’m no technician or anything and I’m trying to explore all of my options for van life, and you just saved my butt. I was thinking of paying for someone to do the wiring and now I don’t have to!! This is so simple!!
Thank you so much! Using the Jackery 240 with the cheapest 100w Renogy kit makes a starter solar system as cheap as $360 as opposed to using an inverter, battery, etc with all the wires for $425 - When every dollar counts this is excellent for people starting out
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. My daughter bought a van and has been traveling all over the country like a Gypsy and I have been worried about her staying warm in the winter and safe with carbon minoxide issues so your video's are helping me figure out what she needs to be safe. We pick up our van tomorrow!! Cant wait to start the build, we found a amazing deal on a 1997 Dodge B2500 that was a old cargo van. In toltal we will only have $850 toltal in it after purchase!
Ervins Farms / I purchased one of those with a high top & 130,000 miles on it for $800 ; that was 5 years ago. I put 60,000 miles on it before I totaled it. It ran good, but had one bad cylinder & head gasket issues, so it used oil & antifreeze .Now I have a GMC of the same year...

I primarily got my Jackery 500 as a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to my CPAP at home. I'll take it with me when I travel (camping, etc). I learned from much research, Jackery is the only I can find in it's class and price range ($499 on Amazon) that has a regulated DC output. This is very important feature, that all the brands should have. For those that don't know, regulated DC power means it will do a constant ~12vdc as the battery is discharging; unregulated - the DC output will drop as the battery loses charge through use. Anyways, just an important tip and no I don't work for Jackery.
Aww sounds like it is everything I need and want. I am currently make plans to convert my life to Vanlifing. I spent a year in my SUV really roughing it. When we had a small sailboat we had a 45Ah car battery that we charged in the spring and then used it for all the lights for the rest of the season (Apr-Oct)
Other differences between the 500 and the 240: AC: 500 sustained 500 watts (100W surge) of power vs 200W (400W surge) Battery Size: 518Wh/144,400mAh vs 240Wh/67,000 mAh DC Input: 500 input takes 12V-30V, 3.5a, 100W max which means you can use 12v or 24v solar panels and charge quicker; 240 maxes at at 42W input So if you have even 1 solar panel that's 100W, go with the 500 model to really make use of the panel or really, set up your own battery bank.
Could you run an AC unit off these batteries everything else I know they can handle for what I need on the daily. The AC to cool off for Boondocking for long periods of time in a Hot climate is what I'm wondering about.
The jackery battery is how I'm gonna set my van up when i get it im just wondering if it will run a flat screen and a fridge great video man preach it to everyone jackery should hire crome Valdez as a spokes person for jackery that be awesome stay weird stay safe crome and Cruz.
According to Jackery, a fully charged 240 will power a 35W fridge a total of 6 hours...but since a fridge turns itself on & off, you can keep it cold for 24 hrs on a single charge. A 40W LED tv (
I just found your channel tonight and so glad I did. Presently, I'm an overland camper but am dreaming about buying a van, do some conversion and hit the road hoping to visit the 48 contiguous states, the provinces of Canada and of course, Alaska. I lived in Maui for eleven years and visited all of the islands multiple times. I have a Jackery 240 and use it to run my small refrigerator, my string of lights and a fan. It is an awesome piece of equipment I cannot do without now. I thought about getting the Jackery 1000 but I really don't need to spend a thousand bucks on something I may need only occasionally.
Wow, the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series sounds like an incredible piece of outdoor gear! The massive capacity, fast recharging, and waterproof technology definitely make it a reliable backup power source for camping trips or emergencies. Plus, the smart app control feature is a nice touch for monitoring energy usage. Thanks for sharing this recommendation!
I've heard of people running these 50liter compressor coolerbox fridges 24/7 on the Jackery 500 (they run for almost 3days 24/7 before jackery is flat) - This then means, if you have a solar panel connected, you can run it indefinitely. Keeps all your food and drinks ice cold. As the compressor coolerboxes they initially draw alot of power to cool things down to say 5degree's Celsius (say 1hour or 1.5hours) then after that, it will only turn on for 7-10min every 1hour. which means it only runs for 240min in a day with compressor on. or 4hours It all depends on how often you open the coolerbox up etc.. but yes. can carry that compressor coolerbox for 3days pretty much on one full charge. Which is sufficient maybe for a weekend get-away or long road-trip to friends and back.
Thanks. LONG time listener. First time caller. You are very, very, informative and abundant with knowledge in your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
I see how you did it, but, how did you get everything plugged in, since cables arent that long? How did you get all led lights plugged in at same time? Am I missing something? Thanks.
You connect all of the positive wires together and do the same for the negative ones. Then run those to the plug. To do this, he most likely used a terminal distribution block. It is basically a piece of metal with screws in it, mounted on something non conductive. Basically you put an incoming wire under each screw and tighten them down. That connects them all together. You of course need 2 of these... one for positive and one for negative. If you have sensitive stuff you plan to connect you might want to have one of these (the positive side one) be an actual fuse block. Bottom line, in order to do what he is suggesting you basically have to do what he claims this device prevents you from having to do... electrical work. WAIT there's more... All of the above assumes the devices you are connecting like this are low wattage. Because that plug he is using will only safely conduct so many watts. Not a problem really for led lights and stuff like that. However, something with a ton of watts just wouldn't work. It would probably shut down the Jackery (assuming it has circuit breakers built in)... it might also fry the plug/wiring you set up. There are other ways of connecting all of this. The above is what most would probably recommend I think. Other methods would most likely require soldiering and stuff like that.
Thanks so much for posting this. I am planning out my first van build and I'm looking at a lowtop cargo van like yours. I have been considering going this route for a few reasons. One... it's simple. Two... it's cost effective... with the lithium batteries running $700-$1000 alone, having something with all the different components built in makes a lot of sense. Three... I live in Houston, the hot, stinky armpit of America. Summers here get to 110F easily. All the videos I watch all warn, don't let your batteries get too hot! So I want something I can easily take in or out. Finally... portability and ability to multi task. Seems to me the whole point of living in a van isn't to stay in the van, it's to see the world! One night I might want to be in a tent. Or I may want to sit by the ocean with a fan and laptop. Or I might want to bring it into my house to use as back up during a hurricane. I was thinking the Jackary 1000 plus maybe a smaller one. I plan to use battery LED lights and keep an extra set of batteries charging on a solar charger at all times, and I will have a propane tank for the stove. So really all this needs to do is charge the sink, operate the fan, and a TV (and occasionally a guitar amp and/or recording equipment). I've been looking for someone to give a real world idea on how long these last and i've watched HOURS of these videos. So THANK YOU for covering this.
Hi Chrome, Another great video, loved it and your opinion about the Jackery. Them little switches you use are no way "over kill" i would do the exact same thing.
#LiveYourPassion Luv you Chrome and Cruz !! Weirdos Unite !! Normal Life Sucks !! 😎 ❤️ #FindYouFreedom I love my Jackery 240 😊😊😊 runs my fridge 10 hrs. 🐾 Disco will forever be in my heart !! ❤️
This was perfect & on time... Love it! So helpful. 🤘🏽 🤗💕👍🏽 On my van hunt, and was concerned about power bc I probably won't get solar right away...this seems like a great solution!
@DoDo Boodrough: if you see cheap then you can,t go off grid because you will need to invest a solid $100,000 just to have enough battery for partial off grid. A Lithium-ion deep cycle battery is just under $900 for 1200 running watts with a $500 inverter that can take enough battery to sustain 3000 for 6 hours. You would realistically need no less than 100 square meters of solar panel which have are to use and the other charge the many batteries. You also need refrigerated rooms for batteries. You probably should live on the equator for 12 hours sun annually and that's what going to break the bank because the equator is farmers land and they don't sell cheap.
Just the information that I needed to start my road trip. Thank you very much for the information and for keeping it simple for a non tech person like me.
Jackery 1000 runs my 12V DC fridge, Chinese knockoff diesel heater, laptop, lights, various charging devices easily & I have it plugged into a 120 watt solar panel 3 year warranty is sweet
I have the 240 and although it runs a lot of stuff. Please be aware that u can only run up to 240 watts on it. If something runs above 240 watts it will not run it. I had to learn that the hard way. You cant just plug anything into it. I have considered upgrading to the larger one because there is a lot of things I need but they run 350 watts and my battery wont run it. The 240 does run my lights and charge my stuff and my roof fan. U have to pay attention to the wattage

"This one, that one," 🤷🏾♀️ "this thing," "this battery." Finally, you said the 240. Which is the 440 watts? Is that the 500? It would've been nice to know what the other one was, 1000, 1500? 🤷🏾♀️ Love your high energy. I just purchased the 240 for $159.99 and the 60 watt solar panel for $129 on Amazon. Prime Day.
Thank you so much I just got mine and I’m so excited but the solar panel I bought I need to wait for The adapter to come from Amazon but I’m plugging everything in in the house A small fan cell phone lamp all at the same time staying only 10 W output 🥰🥰🥰
That light panel is pretty basic. Just hook the DC out up to a distribution bus and you can tap off of it to power whatever you need. It should be very basic 101. The cigarette lighter is nothing more then hooking up to a positive and negative post of a battery. You can operate multiple items but are limited to the output of the cig lighter which is probably around a10 Amp draw. Anything more will probably to the internal circuit breaker on the jackery.
Just curious... when it comes time to recharge your power pack battery units, do you charge them using the running Van motor? I'd be interested in seeing video on that. Very cool videos btw. 😁👍
Most of these are chargeable using ac (house) or 12v (the cigarette lighter in your car) or solar. These are basically charge controller, inverter, and battery in one. I’m about to do my second van and I’ll be using the explorer 2000.
Great video. Definitely looking into this type of battery. Don’t want to deal with a gas generator and the noise of it. Using solar leaves a much smaller footprint. How is the smaller one if you have a small fridge?

Great advice! The Explorer 240 is an awesome battery. 👍🏼
When we had a small sailboat we had a 45Ah car battery that we charged in the spring and then used it for all the lights for the rest of the season (Apr-Oct)
Other differences between the 500 and the 240:
AC: 500 sustained 500 watts (100W surge) of power vs 200W (400W surge)
Battery Size: 518Wh/144,400mAh vs 240Wh/67,000 mAh
DC Input: 500 input takes 12V-30V, 3.5a, 100W max which means you can use 12v or 24v solar panels and charge quicker; 240 maxes at at 42W input
So if you have even 1 solar panel that's 100W, go with the 500 model to really make use of the panel or really, set up your own battery bank.
Could you run an AC unit off these batteries everything else I know they can handle for what I need on the daily. The AC to cool off for Boondocking for long periods of time in a Hot climate is what I'm wondering about.
Why do these things take so long to charge, we bought one and only powering our alpicool fridge taking 45w 15% of the time it can barely last 2 days
I never heard of these before. I need one soooo bad. Thanks for the video!
A 40W LED tv (
Whoa! I was thinking this wouldn’t work with a fridge BUT I forgot about the fact that the fan only runs intermittently. Now I’m truly intrigued.
Getting my 1988 ford conversion van this week $500. Can't wait
Awesome! This is the question I have needed answered! Thank you! Found you through others who subcribe to you!
I was waiting for that battery to fly out of your hand and hit me in the face.
I did a cargo trailer conversion, and all power is supplied by a Jackery 500. Freakin' awesome.
One day I might actually pull off setting aside enough money for a jackery
Jackery is Awesome
edited because auto complete changed Jackery to "jacket"
@@TheDawnofVanlife - Update: So happy Dawn.. 👏your wish came true lol☺.
I love💕 both you guys Channels stay SAFE.
Hello Chrome & Cruz 😃🐶. I want a Jackery & l live in a sticks & bricks 🤣🕊💜
GET IT! Just in case...
Ikr, I'd love that 240 for the house, hurricane season just started on 6/1
I've heard of people running these 50liter compressor coolerbox fridges 24/7 on the Jackery 500 (they run for almost 3days 24/7 before jackery is flat) - This then means, if you have a solar panel connected, you can run it indefinitely.
Who's plain boring van is that? ;) you've come along way since this bro! Nicely done.
Thanks. LONG time listener. First time caller. You are very, very, informative and abundant with knowledge in your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Just ordered the Jackery 240 and the 50W Solar Panel! Thanks for the advice man.
Steven Richard - did you still get the 20% off, sale is 5/20-26...
So you can get a solar panel that works in relation to the jackery? Is it the same brand?
👍I got the 440. I used it some. Haven't tried my blender yet. Thanks for sharing all this Info. It's great stuff to know.
@@rennemichaels2706 I have an inverter in my van that runs off my van battery. I charge when I drive. Or plug it in any outlet😊
Terri Lynch My Life THANK YOU SO MUCH for this info girl!❤️
Supposedly comes with a 12v plug to plug into your cigarette lighter while you drive...but you gotta drive alot for a full charge.
I see how you did it, but, how did you get everything plugged in, since cables arent that long? How did you get all led lights plugged in at same time? Am I missing something? Thanks.
I’m so confused about that part!
Ok
He knows something about wiring things, best left to an electrician if you don’t know what you are doing.
So THANK YOU for covering this.
how is the build so far?
How is the build?
Hi Chrome, Another great video, loved it and your opinion about the Jackery. Them little switches you use are no way "over kill" i would do the exact same thing.
I was looking at big solar until i saw your youtube show now i am going for the Jackery 1000
Can you charge it while driving?
#LiveYourPassion Luv you Chrome and Cruz !! Weirdos Unite !! Normal Life Sucks !! 😎 ❤️ #FindYouFreedom I love my Jackery 240 😊😊😊 runs my fridge 10 hrs.
🐾 Disco will forever be in my heart !! ❤️
I'd also like to know what kind of fridge, make, model and watts?
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Finally a person who is answering all my questions!
This was perfect & on time... Love it! So helpful. 🤘🏽 🤗💕👍🏽 On my van hunt, and was concerned about power bc I probably won't get solar right away...this seems like a great solution!
One of these little guys would change my life.
DAMN these things are not cheap. Cool, but expensive.
I saw one on Amazon that was $199.
Been waiting for this review. Thanks!
Jackery 1000 runs my 12V DC fridge, Chinese knockoff diesel heater, laptop, lights, various charging devices easily & I have it plugged into a 120 watt solar panel
3 year warranty is sweet
It runs my washing machine & tumbles dryer for three days.
🤣
Which Jackery did?
And how long does the battery last, when you turn on the electrical Devices!
Definitely want to buy before traveling. Just thinking . . Has Jackery ever mentioned how much of an impact you've made in sales?
We’re just getting started on our van build. Have planned on getting solar but now considering this instead. Very informative and helpful video. Thank you!
saving up for a Jackery 240 someday.. I have a 2nd hand GZero..agm.
Multi sources of power and functionality are the bomb. (skritches to Cruzey-smushface
I agree. If you're getting started, these are perfect. As you gain more experience living in a van you can always upgrade to other methods.
Goal Zero Yeti 400 very similar device is what I have been using and loving! Thanks for your educational content brother.
SOLD! I`m checking Jackery right now! Just in case of a blackout :)
Prime Day.
I got them on prime day too
Thank you. Omgosh what a cute baby!!!!!!
CPAP users yes, make sure. He says it. Make sure you get what power that YOU need FOR everyday use!
I really like the witch box! Do you have a vid on how you made it?
Will be looking into this when I begin my Vanlife! Thanks for honest review! Funny, wired, witty, whacky and a wrap! COOL. 😎🐾❤️
Cruz is so cute. That little toung sticking out
Thank you so much I just got mine and I’m so excited but the solar panel I bought I need to wait for The adapter to come from Amazon but I’m plugging everything in in the house A small fan cell phone lamp all at the same time staying only 10 W output 🥰🥰🥰
Come on man, you can’t leave us hanging....how did you make the panel with the switches?
That light panel is pretty basic. Just hook the DC out up to a distribution bus and you can tap off of it to power whatever you need. It should be very basic 101. The cigarette lighter is nothing more then hooking up to a positive and negative post of a battery. You can operate multiple items but are limited to the output of the cig lighter which is probably around a10 Amp draw. Anything more will probably to the internal circuit breaker on the jackery.
Great video chrome glad that jackery gave you a deal and it's great that they are paying for your party xx
Nice infomercial
I've been going over my power options and you made this into a real option for the first time. I'm going to keep this in mind for sure.
Just curious... when it comes time to recharge your power pack battery units, do you charge them using the running Van motor? I'd be interested in seeing video on that. Very cool videos btw. 😁👍
Such a vital question, Thanks
Most of these are chargeable using ac (house) or 12v (the cigarette lighter in your car) or solar. These are basically charge controller, inverter, and battery in one. I’m about to do my second van and I’ll be using the explorer 2000.
I got the jackery 500 and the solar panel. I’m so relieved to find this video. I’m definitely going to subscribe. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Definitely looking into this type of battery. Don’t want to deal with a gas generator and the noise of it. Using solar leaves a much smaller footprint. How is the smaller one if you have a small fridge?
