Hi Alexa, I recently discovered your videos while I was looking for further information on achilles ruptures. My initial rupture came over the Christmas period; I had surgery and was on my way to recovery - so I thought - when I re-ruptured it again in May. I tick all the boxes as the typical rupture case; overweight middle aged weekend warrior who tried to come back too quickly. For my second surgery, they took my FHL ligament (big toe) to reinforce my achilles. Am now about to start the partial weight bearing bit, so fingers crossed; going to take it nice and slow this time... Just wanted to let you know that it is very reassuring to watch your videos. Your experiences are very similar to mine > and my 'special' discovery the second time round was the knee scooter; what a difference that makes! I subscribed to your videos (should you post some more) and will follow your journey... Hopefully all goes well for the both of us and hopefully Christmas will be different this year...
Ommmg I cannot believe that! Good reminder to us all, I think, to be careful about coming back too soon 😣 So glad you're enjoying my videos and they're helpful for you even though you've already gone through it once! More achilles videos are coming soon! Wishing you a smoother recovery this time around. Feel free to comment thoughts / questions / etc… if things come up! 💪
@@RamyDahab Hi Ramy, what I would certainly advise is to take it slowly. If I look back at it, think I tried to get back too quickly. Real problem is that during rehab, you don't actually feel any pain while exercising. Nerves and blood flow in the achilles region are rather limited, so you don't really feel when you're pushing it a bit too far. I felt some unease the day after, but then talking to my physio you get the standard reply to just push through a little pain - DON'T!! So be careful with exercises, don't push it and take it slow! As soon as you feel any pain, have it checked! I am following my own advice and feel a lot better and confidence is slowly getting back - still a way to go though...
@@bartdilissen7762 Thanks Bart, I am trying to take it easy and be very careful whilst exercising... Was it painful when you re-ruptured it again ? I get a bit of tingling feeling mixed with slight burning sensation sometimes... I keep worry that I might have ruptured it again :(
I've watched all of your videos as I've recovered from surgery (and bought so many things you've recommended!). Two shoe suggestions: Fit Flop sandals have a great heel-toe drop. I got them and some Born shoes that are open back. Open back is where it's at!!! No rubbing!
Thanks for sharing the videos, I’ve been posting my journey on RUclips also and watching so many videos. I’m at week 6 and started walking over the weekend…I ended up buying the shoe lift because my hip was going to explode 😅. It’s made a massive difference so thankyou for sharing that.
Oh awesome!! Glad to hear you're sharing your story as well :) The shoe lift was great, glad you got it and it's working for you. Wishing you a smooth recovery as well 💪
I have three different colors of Converse midrise that I absolutely love. I’m so scared I won’t be able to wear them once I get to that point for the same reason. I’m worried it’s gonna hit right where my tear was
You're welcome!! I stared driving at 7 weeks post-op once I got my boot off. I couldn't drive long distances because my foot would get sore but it was nice to be independent in that way again.
Hi 👋, I just got my boot after 4 weeks in a splint/cast. Did you have pain when u first started walking. I am using about 50% weight and it seems to 🔥 burn. How long before you stopped feeling pain?
Ohhh yeah definitely lots of stiffness and pain in the beginning. You think about it - your foot hasn't really moved much in months - so you gotta take things slowly. I honestly don't feel like I've stopped feeling pain until around now… which is about 8 months post-op. The pain, however, has gotten increasingly less and less worse. But really up until recently my foot would still get sore or stiff from time to time. And when I would wake up in the morning it would be stiff initially but not really anymore! Hope that helps.
They took my boot off 2 weeks ago and for the life of me i cannot find a comfortable shoe, all my gym shoes are extremely uncomfortable i tried buying new ones and nothing, the only thing i can wear and been wearing are crocs. I had to buy 2 pairs otherwise i couldn’t walk on anything else.
yeahhh shoes were really tough! I highly recommend the gray nike's I have - I pretty much have been living in those this year since I've been walking again.
@@danielbrantley6878 Ahh gotcha! Yeah hopefully you may have a similar recovery timeline to me. I've heard stories of people who were non-weight bearing and/or just in the boot longer so just want to set expectations straight with you. Have you told your doctor this? They could potentially monitor you more with these goals in mind. hope that helps!

Hope your recovery is going well Bart… I am 8 week post achilles repair surgery, so any advise on what to do to avoid re-rupture ?

yeah… at the beginning it was tough but definitely just a phase!
Thanks for making a video on this. How long before you were able to drive again post op?

How long from surgery until you were out of the boot?
Hi there, I was out of the boot and walking on my own after 7 weeks post-op. Hope that's helpful for you!
@@HelloImAlexa thank you. I have surgery Thursday and a trip planned to Spain about 8 1/2 weeks from surgery. Just looking for an approx timeline.

What was the name of the mechanical boot?
I’m not sure actually! It was ordered and prescribed from my doctor
