    Three decades of economic liberalization have radically changed the face of China. With the number of Chinese billionaires increasing rapidly, the red ideals of the past may have been discarded forever.
    "You can never have enough money. Money helps me fulfill my dreams", says Li Chao, for whom expensive hobbies like motor racing are no longer out of reach. He represents a new generation of pioneering red capitalists: immodest, accustomed to success and able to spend more money in one luxury evening in Shanghai or Beijing than others can earn in a year. Others, like the real estate developer Wang Dafu, were born into poverty, but are fast becoming the embodiment of the Chinese dream. "When I started working I sometimes couldn't afford a beer and a bowl of noodles." His personal fortune is now estimated at half a billion Euros. With more and more people splashing the cash the Chinese auto market is now the largest in the world, the luxury goods market "is huge" and the art market is "booming". This is life in the new China and it's one focused on a particularly unique ideology; what one party member labels, "socialism with Chinese characteristics". But not everyone is happy with the way things are going. "The Communist Party is nothing but a capitalist party through and through."

      I'm sure they're much better off working in there than slaving away on the farms of the cultural revolution. At the very least they have a job and food on the table, a stark contrast to the famine and chaos just 60 years ago. It an indisputable fact that the quality of life overall has most certainly gone up in China ever since they introduced market liberalization policies with Deng. The tremendous growth of the middle class is a testament to this. And wealth disparity exists everywhere, look at the millionaire techbros of the United States or the born in wealth posh British kids who attend private schools and have a guaranteed ride into Oxford. Then compare it to Compton or parts of Detroit, or to the coal mining, I mean ex coal mining towns of the UK. China is a newly industrialized power, its no wonder they'll have some trouble adjusting, think back to the Gilded age where industrial capitalists made fortunes while children toiled in factories losing hand and limb. It's an unavoidable product of capitalism that some will be better off than others. Of course there's always room for improvement, we've come far from the horrors of the beginnings of our own industrialization. Give China time and it'll sort itself out like the rest of the major world powers, it's in a unique position considering its monolithic state, a state that can spend years to even decades focusing on one issue, while Western democracies beholden to party politics and the whimsical will of the people cannot.

Comparing what he has and does to what the rest of what China does is just ridiculous imo.

    • @marsing69
      @marsing69 3 года назад

      @@justinfay3011 I'm saying it ludicrous to expect China to somehow magically become a major 1st world power that can adhere to the same standards that Western nations expect within a span of 50 years. China's market liberalization didn't even happen till the 80s and 90s so they've only been in this mode of operation for about the time that a millennial has been alive, and the conditions in which the average person lives in is much better than what the middle class during the cultural revolution lived in, so it is an astounding improvement for the common man. It's literally only going to get better for the average man in China if current trends are continued. The growth of the Chinese middle class proves that a vast majority of Chinese citizens are becoming wealthy, there just exists a large wealth disparity like that which exists in the US, the UK, or any other country for that matter. It's a bit ironic what he said but it's true. Any metric you look at will show that it's true. Compare any metric of China in the 50s, 60, 70s, 80s, etc.. to now and you'll see leaps and bounds of improvement in terms of quality of life and basic living standards. And yes, I do believe the factory jobs many Chinese people have are leaps and bounds better than being forced to work on a collectivized farm while starving... And what else would I compare it to? Why would I not compare the state of China today to the state that China was in just a few decades ago?

    • @justinfay3011
      @justinfay3011 3 года назад

      @@marsing69 Why shouldn't you compare them to more recent economies or other nations and jobs? They chose to be behind and unchanging for centuries. Because they're this way you can only compare them to themselves? That's illogical. Yeah they've progressed but i think you're detracting and going on slight tangents from what you originally replied to. More of them may increase in standard of living but that doesn't mean they aren't following the trends of disparity in the US and UK you so mentioned. Just look at their congress. Richest in the world.

    • @marsing69
      @marsing69 3 года назад +2

      @@justinfay3011 Since it's completely unfair and unfounded to compare a nation that has just recently industrialized to a nation that industrialized in the 1800s. You can't fault a country for the choices of their ancestors in the 1800's and the 1900's, it ludicrous to believe that. No one alive chose to be behind, it would be like faulting a child for not having the same emotional development or intelligence as an adult. And if you are to compare it to western countries you should compare it to western countries during their own industrialization. Again back to the child analogy, you don't compare a 50 year old to a 14 year old, if anything you'd compare the 50 year old when he was 14 to the current 14 year old. It's two entirely different situations. And for all intents and purposes China now was better than America then, and is better than China from before. And no, I am replying exactly to what was posited originally. He was completely right in saying that everyone has gotten rich together. Standard of living has gone up, quality of life has gone up, every metric you could measure to determine the richness of the average person in China has gone up, so yes, him and the average Chinese have gotten rich together. And yes, there is significant wealth disparity, like there is in the US and the UK and any other country. Therefore it seems weird to fault them on wealth disparity when almost every country has this significant wealth disparity. And the poor as well today are in a much better situation than they were in before.

They are tought to go with the flow, be normal, don't stand out, if someone is gay in china they can't do anything about it. Men are thought "toxic masculinity" people there are thought the society is more important than the person. Try to live there for a couple of years and I bet your ass you will think differently and you will be glad you can even speak your mind. Freedom is if you want to enjoy your life authoritarianism is if you wanna get shit done have a boring life and always be exhausted (worst part is you won't get any rewards and the Chinese government gets all the rewards (very small amount of rewards compared to america) not like america where if you sell your "freedom" or live like the Chinese you will always be rich.) yes sometimes freedom isn't the best

      @@spaceT999 finally I found a smart person answering me! Normally when I post this type of questions “defending” China, people say that China is bad because is communist. Everything you said is true, I’ve lived in China for 5 years and one thing I noticed is that China changes very quickly, but the people are still the same. That’s the difference between China and the USA. A 45 year’s old American was already born in a free and developed country, but a 45 years old Chinese was born in a closed and non develop country which was recently founded.
      Democracy only works when everyone votes, I live in Portugal where less than 30% of the population votes, you know why? Because they have lost the hope. But even if everyone votes, the country gets extremely divided, and the elected president will always support the people who voted for him, and the people who voted against? They will live in disadvantage.
      As the People’s Republic of China is only 71 years old, I think they still have time to slowly get more and more democratic.

    I can experience this first hand. My 3rd uncle is a member of this organization. He is an entrepreneur aswell while my 3rd aunt (his wife) has multiple victorian furniture stores in mega malls located in Chengdu and Chongqing. The first time I went there (around 8 years old) i was mesmerized at the huge number of sports cars that attended at the event, I spent around 2 hours standing next to my uncle while he was talking to quite a few sports car owners which I later realized were his university friends that have become big bosses (such as coal mining companies). It was all about lifestyles at there, everyone was not shy of showcasing their wealth through how much they spend on their car's insurances and memberships. It was a wonderful experience though, me and my aunt sitting on the VIP indoor spectator lounge with a few models (whew I even remembered they kept talkin to me and pinching my cheeks 😂😂😂).
    Learnt a lesson at there, my aunt kept on reminding me that all these rich business men didn't have their fortune come easy. They may seem to always hang out with models, blowing money on girls, bars, yachts, clubs, cars, but they have indeed worked very very hard, grabbing any opportunity they meet. They really do deserve such lifestyles they have rn. Even my aunt and uncle hates the kids that make use of their family's wealth to enjoy their lives. So whenever you see a sportscar blasting pass you, don't always think that its some young kid using parents money, but rather think about the possibility of the driver being a very hardworking businessman that once came from a poor family 😌

If I want a £70k car, that was in her name, paid off, for free, I guess it was a ''token'' for the 3 years we were dating but I was too upset to think straight and told her to do one. God damn, could have been £70k richer if I was thinking straight,
