    I grew up on this on Nick at Nite, it still today makes me feel happy and safe and that things are okay. This is the kind of show that will live forever past all the dark vibes we have today.

    I’m 72 and watched these when originally broadcast. Laura makes me wish I had got married. I never did. Of course she would have looked like Mary Tyler Moore.

      I'm 70, was married for nine years, and wish I'd never done it. Been divorced 40 years, and if I never get married again it'll be fine with me. And no one who holds that a woman has to look like MTM in her prime would want me anyhow, 'cause I sure as the world have never been anywhere near as beautiful as she once was.

    I've watched this show for the past 35 years and I love it now more than ever. To meet him would be a dream come true. I live in Georgia and I doubt I will ever have the money to go to malibu Cali., But will continue to be a big fan of The Dick Van Dyke forever!

    I'm not sure if most people know this. The reason that they sang "for he's a jolly good fellow" instead of "happy birthday " is because the show would have to pay the descendants of the writers of this song.

      Yeah, well, that is if you forget about the Richie's birthday episode that had to be filmed without an audience because JFK had just been killed. Or the fact that interracial marriage was illegal in more than a third of the states. Or segregation, things heating up in Vietnam. . .I love this show, but there is no such thing as the "good old days".

      Very interesting comment, given that in 1964, when The DVDS was in full swing, DVD read a statement about race relations in the US written by Rod Serling. I loved this show, still do. But assigning it the weighty role of representing "the good old days, when things were so much better", is something even its star would reject.

    This was great , it reminds me when I gave a surprise party for a friend and he was as surprise as Rob , I had to do some tricks like Laura did . And at the end it was great .

      Well, Let's see now. The sixties, ah yes. We had literacy tests to keep black people from voting; anti-miscegenation laws to keep races from intermarrying; Women were treated as second class citizens; Viet Nam, dioxins, Kent State, A Buddhist monk self-immolated; JFK, Dr.King, RFK, all in one decade. People were eating tuna salad in jello, for crying out loud.

    Gary Francis, I know exactly what you mean about wanting to get married. I was too young to care about females when this show was airing, I did think she was extremely pretty. But my first TV crush was Marlo Thomas! She was the perfect girl friend, and truly one of the most beautiful women to ever grace American television. WOW 😲😲😲😲

    I used to watch this every week when I was a kid. I thought it was pretty funny. Now when watch it I see that Sally, Buddy and Mel are hilarious, Laura is smart and sexy, and Rob is kind of a putz.

    The writers make it seem like Buddy and Sally are a married couple, always referring to them together. Pickles (Buddy's wife) is usually only mentioned as the butt of Buddy's "wife" jokes. Weird.

      I read once that when they were first assembling that great cast..Sally was hired and recommended Buddy to join the cast..maybe that's a part of it ?

      Rose Marie and Morey Amsterdam were already an act together. In-narrative, they worked on the show before Rob came in, so they're very close friends.

    Todays shows make fun of parents and grand 11:13 parents.Roseanne abd Married with Chidren for examle.This series is a classic while always portraying all adults respecffully.Well maybe Mel Cooley the boss was ridiculed a little.But family was respected.

    Rob and Laura always seem to refer to Buddy and Sally as if they were a married couple. Buddy was married to Pickles, aka Fiona. Not Sally. They were work colleagues, not romantic partners.
