I think the fact that Linux is open-sourced makes it bad if you want security. Anyone could find out and exploit vulnerabilities within the OS. Windows and macos and any other close-sourced app that has a decent reputation, on the other hand, are less prone to these vulnerabilities because they are closed-sourced.
You shouldn't believe security through obscurity. Usually open source software is safer since people tend to write cleaner and safer code to not get humiliated by the already existing maintainers of that software, in closed-source nature, there's no such thing and usually decisions are driven by the money currently it brings and not by the implications of it in the future
@@Dovias-v3v However, with closed source software, especially when companies are making money from it, in the case of a security vulnerability being exploited, they won't be trusted anymore and thus they'll make less money. And desktop environments like GNOME, or even KDE, are more user-friendly than Windows
Linux is also a lot more easygoing than Windows in terms of updates and its App Store. Don’t want to update right now? That’s ok! Linux lets you update whenever you want to. It never forces an update install on you.
Also, can we all agree that Linux had better app stores than the Microsoft Store on Windows? They are easy to navigate, and it has system app packages along with flatpaks too! There is far more to discover on there.
I giggled a little bit at the stable part because today my Ubuntu laptop got grey screened at the worst possible moment

One of the only issue not going to Linux is the anti cheat things on games that lock Linux 😢
Linux is not more private or more secure than macOS (so long as you press “don’t allow” to most pop ups)
you can make a linux more secure than a mac (because of less attack area), also Linux doesn't come bundled with expensive hardware, and only with expensive hardware, which also prevents you from repairing it yourself (or any non authorized vendor)
@@schwingedeshaehers nope. macOS has advanced tracking and virus protection software built into the operating system. Linux simply lacks anything like this without third party software, which will require a paid subscription.
Sure if you want cheap hardware Linux will be better… but I for one want the best of the best, and I want it to last a long time.
Speaking from experience, Mac computers ALWAYS outlast their competitors by a ridiculous margin.
@@Abel-Harland tracking protection? is something that is browser based, if you know what you use. and then things like umatrix lets you help with that.
you don't have av on Linux for free, correct, but depending on the user, that not a big problem. also, i said by reducing the attack surface y like don't automatically try to open files/devices/..., so you have to tell it, that it should execute something (and you can remove part, that you don't need, so they can't be exploited)
lasting a long time is possible with Linux, and you can, if you choose a good laptop/pc repair it much easier. you can't even change the main ssd in many new apple devices
@@Abel-Harland i have a ThinkPad W520 at home
@@schwingedeshaehers No I'm not just talking about browser based tracker blocking. I'm talking system wide.

It's still not the same. No matter how you put it linux is vulnerable. And I don't want to be going through the code of an application to pick out what might be malware 🙄.
Time is money.
Sounds like you haven't owned many apple computers...
For linux and windows computers it's impressive for one to last 13 years such as your Thinkpad. But I consider that a relatively short lifespan for a Mac.
I still have a MacBook Pro from 2006 which works like new (although it doesn't have enough RAM to be fast with most modern applications), the only repair it ever needed was a battery replacement.

So I think closed-sourced companies will try their best not to have vulnerabilities as to remain trusted.
@@YuxProductionsNot really true, just look how many security holes Windows has. There is still tools on the internet which can do privilege escalation without triggering UAC, yet Microsoft discloses it as not vulnerability and state that they wont fix. At some point closed source software companies tend to get so big that they wont question their practices anymore, because people will keep using their products, no matter the enshittification
