You missed a few key points. iPhone's are in general amazing when shooting with less chalenging situations (indoors for instance). It exposes shadows better than the S8 does when indoors. When you are facing challenging situations, in the sun, outdoors, at midnight, that's when the S8 pulls ahead by landslides. Personally I'd pick the S8, not based on your video because that missed key points. I'd pick the S8 due to reliability. Faster AF combined with faster shutter speed results in less motion blur when taking both pictures and video's.
Clorex Bleach You can't say iPhone's aren't reliable, they are known for being very reliable. I think both cameras are fantastic, but I can't use Android, because iOS has Video Editor called Luma Fusion. I have the iPhone 7 and I can say it's miles ahead the previous iPhone, the iPhone 6S in low-light shots. I always wonder why people complain about iPhone not having manual mode in their camera, I just bought the Pro Cam 4 -app ($5) and it's great, if you want to play with ISO,Shutter speed, K, and manual focus is also pretty nice. I think iPhone 7/7+ wins in the video department, because of "doller" image. You have more room to tweak your color grading...
Overall I do think the camera comparison is a tie. But just take a look at the size differences of these phones! Remember: Galaxy S8 - 5.8inch display and iPhone 7+ 5.5inch display. Also the high res hdr display of the S8 is by far better than the iPhone display, so you do have a lot better viewing experience when watching your own pics and videos on the phone.
I once took a picture on my Samsung S6, I looked at the picture from my friends iPhone 5. I can guarantee the Samsung has a better camera than the iPhone.
Obviously, you should compare to iphone 6 or 6s. By the way samsung cameras tend to oversharp and oversaturate images for my taste, you can do it afterwards.
Ben, are you seeing a lot of the compression artifacts like at 1:40? My S8 is horrible at this and it's really unacceptable but no one is talking about it. You talked about it at the end. Here's what I'm seeing: It only appears on QHD and UHD (QHD on front cam too) and shows worst when panning vertically upwards into a blue sky. Oddly, it shows less when horizontally panning in the sky. I'm also seeing horrible color reproduction when viewed on Quicktime on a Mac. Same file on VLC on a Mac looks much better. It almost looks like heavy, artificial HDR.
Yes, I agree. When it appears (quite often) it's incredibly frustrating and annoying. I spoke with Samsung support and they were no help at all. One viewer commented @Boyeong Gwak, "About the blocking issue, it's called Macroblock and It's caused by Snapdragon processor. You can't really fix it unless you buy an Exynos version. Other Snapdragon based Android phone has the same issue." I researched it further and he might be onto something. I believe it's a compression artifact, and I even saw it on my new Sony Xperia XZ Premium in a recent video (ruclips.net/video/9sV9Y2kBPr0/видео.html @ 3:43), which uses the same Snapdragon 835 processor. It's very annoying, especially since no one is talking about it.
AuthenTech - Ben Schmanke yeah! Finally someone else sees this annying artefect. I thought it had something to do with that it was a default lower bitrate. Inthought you could get an 3rd party cam app that supported higher bitrate would fix this, but that's maybe not the case. I haven't seen this artefect on an iphone video sample and thought it was android, but the cpu might be a good guess. This is one downside for not considering the note 8.
I Agree with you Ben! I tought S8 would win without any excuses, but Iphone's camera surprised me! It was good enough to comparise with the S8! They both seemed to be kinda the same! Awesome review like always, keep it up!
S8 better color, 7 Plus better detail, overall I prefer S8 for other reasons though I admit the camera on iPhone are always slightly better. That's just my opinion, have a good day!
4:18 About the blocking issue, it's called Macroblock and It's caused by Snapdragon processor. You can't really fix it unless you buy an Exynos version. Other Snapdragon based Android phone has the same issue
You know you're old when you remember cell phone reviews that were about phone calls and network coverage. If only my phone could fly, or my drone could make phone calls. it would be all you need. LOL! I remember wishing I could combine a copy machine, a fax machine, a scanner and a printer into one device. That happened!
Is it true that those stutters during shooting in 4k were cause by enabled EIS? I've read somewhere that disabling EIS solve the issue with stutters, but I'm not sure whether was it true or not.
i think even s8 front camera wouldnt blown out(4:07) in the sky part , if the phone was holding in the place where 7 plus was, or if HDR was turned on, not sure if he did or s7 has that feature. IMO i love S8 in overal .
Every samsung device have that issue with front facing camera unfortinately. They keep improving rear facing camera but ignore to make front camera good as rear. Really dont know why they are doing it
S8 by far. IPhone does have a better zoom but if I'm recording things at a distance I'm using my actual 4k video camera not a cell phone. I like Samsungs colors WAY better then iPhones. The over saturation in the sky facing the sky happened when I first got the s8 plus on launch day but one of the big camera updates a few months back seems to have fixed that on mine.
I'm going to have to give it to both I have the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the IPhone 7plus and I fully agree with you especially since I tried all of these tests out.
Have the s8 plus and 7 plus...7 plus handles noise much better in 4k video in most areas especially in low light which was sort of a bummer considering everything else except the camera is better on the s8 plus.
@Whospolo Yeah i agree with you... after a year using samsung you may look like an alien ang blury selfie camera. I am 5 years of using samsung but now i want to shift iphone. Lmao.
S8 is sharper, I7 is smoother S8 has unbalanced colors, I7 is colourly more realistic S8 has better camera controls, I7 is more limited S8 has a poor zooming, I7 has a good one S8 has a perfect focus, I7 is screwed at this point S8 has a poor selfie, I7 is ideal for selfies S8 is more cinematic, I7 is more amateur For personal experience, I'd go with Samsung Galaxy S7 or S8. They are a great cost-benefit
Having both the 7 plus and the s8 I'd have to say the s8 overall is a better phone to have in means of quality and dexterity. It's super light weight and sleek and really doesn't require a case. As to compared to my 7 plus it's the heaviest phone I've had in 3 yrs even without a case. The iPhone has an overheating problem and battery problem that the s8 blows outta the water with its battery lasting up to 2days for me while the iPhone 7plus lasts me about 8-12hrs. When comparing photos my s8 has better contrast and sharpness compared to the 7plus the only real problem the s8 has is a walking problem when recording it goes out of focus. But overall the s8 wins as an overall phone to get for a slightly cheaper and affordable price. In addition, the s8 has an expansive memory capacity with free cloud and SD cards when the iPhone only has an expansive cloud feature at a price which is more expensive and inconvenient. I'd have to say both on Snapchat are pretty much the same quality.
another year and another win for samsung galaxy in camera department 😊 over iphone... now i can say that the galaxy is the best camera phone in the market indeed ✌
I think if you want to make videos with your phone, 7plus for sure. You will have better results in post production, and the zoom is so much better. If you just want to take some quick videos and look at them on your phone, maybe the s8...but then i'm not sure because at 3:25 the S8 colors are horrible (look at the sky) and it looks much more blurry than the 7plus. I think the 7plus wins
Hi Ben🔟 I like all your tech video reviews. Good comparison of both phones. 1. What is the tripod you are using in the video? Link to buy. 2. Where do you live! I really liked the riverside walking.. Can spend hours at that place under tree.
i have oneplus 3. I am happy with it.I can play all games without any stutter even after 25 apps in the background - honestly. I use chromecast on my 42" tv to watch youtube every evening and everything is cheaper than the above options and I am so happy with it. Whenever I take the phone cover off, I always have a smile on my face, even after a year, noticing how thin (albeit slippery) it is. I am very happy with the camera and the software which is no nonsense - I dont know about the other phones. I may be simple in my likes and not as rich as the people owning these phones, but I am so happy with my phone, not because I cant afford the above phones and thats true, but simply because i never faced any problem with mine. I didnt understand the difference between full hd and 2k visually, what the salesman was trying to tell me, but I am happy with the display on my phone. I have zoomed out the icons and using the smallest font, everything on my screen is so tiny, I can see a lot of stuff and still it is sharp for my vision. When I held the s8 in my hand I thought it would be fragile as there was too much glass on it. The iphone was kind of large borders and lesser screen. When I pointed it out, the salesman laughed and said that oneplus is a cheap brand from china and it was not reliable and this was the reason it was not available on display. I dont know whether it is true as I am using it for a year without any problems. He also said that these charge very fast but My phone also charges very quickly. I would like to know from someone, how these phones are better than my phone. Why is there so much buzz about the galazy or the the iphone event.
am I the only one who was seeing the dramatic exposure shift on the s8 on almost all of those comparisons? it doesnt matter how good the camera is if its going to be adjusting exposure so abruptly and harshly
For Selfies the iPhone is slightly better in some circumstances, but the business end, the rear camera, the Samsung S8 is definitely superior. Overall I'd give the win by a narrow margin to the S8. Generally both are close to each other but one notable point, on night shots the Samsung kills iPhone. The reviewer chickened out of showing any real low light shots. I don't know if it's because he's an iPhone fan and didn't want to highlight the huge difference between the two as it's obvious he didn't want to show it.
I personally like the 7 plus camera better, primarily due to the massively better zoom and front-facing camera. Both are great cameras though. All we need is 4K at 60 fps now...
You didn't put in any low light tests. Also, you didn't highlight reliability. The iPhone 7 Plus camera is one of the worst reliable camera to have with you due to it's painstakingly slow focus. Before that phone has focus you already missed the all important shot. It's also pretty worthless with moving objects. A humongous issue like that is completely missing on the Galaxy S8. The S8 takes pictures at a lower ISO with a higher shutter speed. This results in more detail with fast paced objects, including slow motion. The iPhone loves to up the shutter speed, introducing motion blur with moving objects more often than the S8 does. From an usability standpoint, the iPhone 7 Plus is a terrible choice. Get the S8 or the S7 (edge)...or any other Dual Pixel-technology camera.
www.notebookcheck.net/Apple-iPhone-7-Smartphone-Review.173851.0.html (scroll to the colorchecker thing) iPhone actually tends to undersaturate which IMO is just as bad as oversaturating
www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/_processed_/csm_Foto_iPhone7_ColorChecker_Compare_6e9040ae27.jpg "the reference color is displayed in the lower half" as you can see almost all colors except blues are undersaturated and look pale. I am not saying it to defend samsung, just saying that iPhone is not as accurate on color reproduction as majority of people think.
Greens, reds and browns are also undersaturated and neither device reproduce correct color saturation. One oversaturates and the other undersaturates, it is up to ones preference. Both cameras are top of the line shooters but again, I have complaints about both of them - iPhone contrast ratio is so low that it feels like in some of the shots it has VSCO fade filter on, but samsung has too much of it that it makes shadow detail disappear. At the pixel level, samsung oversharpens in order to compensate relatively soft lens (because the bigger the aperture of the lens is more soft) but iPhone even in daylight shots has that texture of "watercolor".
Depends on what you define as "accurate". 99% people screens target an sRGB color space, so iPhones P3 pictures may not be that accurate on sRGB. And in my opinion S8 in most scenarios has more accurate white balance than iPhone (always too warm). I am trying to say that you can't simply say that one is better than the other.
It's like comparing GoPro to the Sony Action Cam series, the GoPro tends to alter the picture and thus make it look 'warmer' whereas the Sony Cam tends to display the most natural colours.
it depends on the user to buy either iphone or samsung. Over all both are great phones. iphone is close system but gives you more speed and is easy to use on the other hand samsung is more open and due to it a bit more complicated. i have used both Iphone 7+ and samsung s8 and i like s8 more because i like to have more open system while using iphone it feel's like iam using someone else's phone but s8 it gives personal feeling
That pixelation seems to be a problem with Android, and its codecs. Meaning the Bitrate will never compare to Apple's. That, along with the weird matte colors are key factors to turn me away from the Galaxy.
This was a really high quality, informative video bro, hat off to you. I've got the S8 currently, and as much as I prefer Android, with my taste for shooting video I'd happily sacrifice the high colour profile for that epic noise reduction and telephoto zoom capability. Thanks dude.
I was surprised with the results!!! What are your thoughts? Putting all OS's aside, which camera do you like better?!
do some sony cameras comparison
You missed a few key points. iPhone's are in general amazing when shooting with less chalenging situations (indoors for instance). It exposes shadows better than the S8 does when indoors. +Vinicius - Thank you! I appreciate that

What's with the s8's "image shifting" ? 2:40 for example, looks bad. Same at 2:53 .
That's a FCPX glitch. Funny it doesn't do that on my iPhone footage, or other cams
Has anyone suggested a fix yet? I have the S8 and that would sure come in handy... Also, great review!
been using iphone 7 plus for years but I never had such clarity in videos. How did you do it sir?
the links to amazon to purchase the cellphones isn't correct
Thanks for the heads up!
I want genuine looking pictures... iPhone for the W.
S8 camera is no slouch but I prefer the iPhone camera without looking back.
TXguy82 I like your way of thinking
Totally agree
I once took a picture on my Samsung S6, I looked at the picture from my friends iPhone 5. I can guarantee the Samsung has a better camera than the iPhone.

Anonymous iPhone 5 smh...
iPhone 5 isn't close to s6 compare with 6s
Valk smh? Oh all right, nice way to discuss. 7 years old?

S8
Lol my 7 plus destroy s8 here 😂, honest comparison ✌️, keep it up bro
s8 is the king
I have both s8 and 7 plus believe me guys I hardly use 7 plus , in useablity Samsung is beating I phones since s 6 edge..
S8 better color, 7 Plus better detail, overall I prefer S8 for other reasons though I admit the camera on iPhone are always slightly better. That's just my opinion, have a good day!
I have S8+ but it didn't capture good pics as you shown in the video.
I'll place my money on the S8!
give me the money
Good video! Keep it up!
Thanks!
great review as usual!
GREAT VIDEO! Congrats!
4:18 About the blocking issue, it's called Macroblock and It's caused by Snapdragon processor. You can't really fix it unless you buy an Exynos version. Other Snapdragon based Android phone has the same issue
Why does it only appear on certain phones, and at certain times?
During the videos preferred how the iphone seems to have smoother exposure adjustments. S8 seems more abrupt
Platinum242 I noticed the same. The iPhone has much smoother transitions.
S8 all the way
try beat my google pixel camera
Mr Montannaa yup but not the camera
You know you're old when you remember cell phone reviews that were about phone calls and network coverage. If only my phone could fly, or my drone could make phone calls. it would be all you need. LOL!
I remember wishing I could combine a copy machine, a fax machine, a scanner and a printer into one device. That happened!
What does he mean by blocking pixelation like sometimes the camera lags a bit when you move the phone around? Cuz i do have that
Is it true that those stutters during shooting in 4k were cause by enabled EIS? I've read somewhere that disabling EIS solve the issue with stutters, but I'm not sure whether was it true or not.
how do u fix the flickering when taking a video? yours doesn't seem flickering T_T

S8 by far.

iPhone ❤
just got the s8, its amazing...although i will admit ive never been a fan of the quality of the front camera on samsung
The iphones frontfacing camera are almost always a lotbetter than samsungs imo.
WhosPolo And what about back camera ? You didn't talked about that :p
@Whospolo Yeah i agree with you... after a year using samsung you may look like an alien ang blury selfie camera. I am 5 years of using samsung but now i want to shift iphone. Lmao.
i don;t know about samsungs front cam but iphones front cam is always grainy
It is
you do good camera comparision....do you just compare cameras of smartphones or also compare speed, processor or other test??
Did you flip the pictures and phone titles on the thumbnail? xD
at 3:57...u can see the difference between both clearly...apple showing the sky and clouds clear...meanwhile s8 showing sky like heaven white
You forgot that you can make 16mp photos with the s8 when you use a 4:3 format >.
S8 is sharper, I7 is smoother
S8 has unbalanced colors, I7 is colourly more realistic
S8 has better camera controls, I7 is more limited
S8 has a poor zooming, I7 has a good one
S8 has a perfect focus, I7 is screwed at this point
S8 has a poor selfie, I7 is ideal for selfies
S8 is more cinematic, I7 is more amateur
For personal experience, I'd go with Samsung Galaxy S7 or S8. They are a great cost-benefit
S8 have good selfi
The best comparison video on youtube! :)
I want to buy a phone ..so tl me whic phone is batter sams 8plus or iph 7plus.so whc phone I could buy ..
s8 is the best
I've a question which microphone is better iPhone or s8 please tell me
Tanvir Ibn Walid iphone
Adyan Jahanger thanks
Having both the 7 plus and the s8 I'd have to say the s8 overall is a better phone to have in means of quality and dexterity. It's super light weight and sleek and really doesn't require a case. As to compared to my 7 plus it's the heaviest phone I've had in 3 yrs even without a case. The iPhone has an overheating problem and battery problem that the s8 blows outta the water with its battery lasting up to 2days for me while the iPhone 7plus lasts me about 8-12hrs. In addition, the s8 has an expansive memory capacity with free cloud and SD cards when the iPhone only has an expansive cloud feature at a price which is more expensive and inconvenient. I'd have to say both on Snapchat are pretty much the same quality.
You should have also included the bokeh effect on both phones :)
I prefer the I7 camera, even having a S8 plus
The comments are so bias 😂😂
another year and another win for samsung galaxy in camera department 😊 over iphone...
now i can say that the galaxy is the best camera phone in the market indeed ✌
Loved this! Thank you so much for your honesty!!! Great to see someone give a review without bias. Keep it up!
+grrab5 - Thank you for watching and commenting!
the vid got me hype up on the upcoming Note8 vs iPhone8 camera comparison
I think if you want to make videos with your phone, 7plus for sure. You will have better results in post production, and the zoom is so much better. If you just want to take some quick videos and look at them on your phone, maybe the s8...but then i'm not sure because at 3:25 the S8 colors are horrible (look at the sky) and it looks much more blurry than the 7plus. I think the 7plus wins
Now the apple company report this video😂😂😂
Its better to be natural than anything😌
#iphone7plus
You forgot portrait mode on the iPhone
It takes amazing blurred backgrounds images like it does on DSLR's
The best phone camera for depth effects
Both cameras are great! I loved it.
2 WEEKS BEN U WILL HAVE 100K SUBSCRIBERS !!! YAY !!!! :) CONGRATZ !!!! I LOVE YOUR VIDEO !

Hi Ben🔟 I like all your tech video reviews. Good comparison of both phones.
1. What is the tripod you are using in the video? Link to buy.
2. Where do you live! I really liked the riverside walking.. Can spend hours at that place under tree.
Thanks! Which tripod are you referring to? (Sorry, I have a few)
AuthenTech - Ben Schmanke used in this video or any cheap alternative. And by the way you forget to tell me about place.
Can you do IPhone 7 plus vs sony xz premium? Thanks :)
Thanks for the suggestion. Since the new iPhone should be coming this Fall, I'll prob wait for the new one to compare
where is dji spark review with controller...?? controller launched
i don t know what to choose i like some pictures and video from i phone 7 plus but i like and from s8 can someone help me to take a decision 😕
So was I the only one that noticed that awful contrast flickering in the S8's video??? 2:35
Informative video, thanks. Can you tell me how to enable portrait mode on my S8?
Can we really compare two models of phones that are made different year time?

Like if S8 is better than Iphone 7 Plus
Apple has more realistic color
Samsung has better colors
don't fight
yujin lee iPhone cameras are natural like studio monitors(flat and regular), Samsung cameras are colored like speakers(raised bass and treble)
I rather have a natural neutral photo so I can color correct and white balance myself.
7 Plus definitely, oh and for the lack of colour on the iPhone is due to its impeccable ability to promote natural colours.
www.notebookcheck.net/Apple-iPhone-7-Smartphone-Review.173851.0.html (scroll to the colorchecker thing) iPhone actually tends to undersaturate which IMO is just as bad as oversaturating
www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/_processed_/csm_Foto_iPhone7_ColorChecker_Compare_6e9040ae27.jpg "the reference color is displayed in the lower half" as you can see almost all colors except blues are undersaturated and look pale.
It's like comparing GoPro to the Sony Action Cam series, the GoPro tends to alter the picture and thus make it look 'warmer' whereas the Sony Cam tends to display the most natural colours.
the s8 looks better at first but if u look closer the 7 plus has more natural feel to the photo both has their pros and cons
it depends on the user to buy either iphone or samsung.
Did y'all notice that the S8's video kept changing colors?
I am a Samsung Galaxy user, but let's be honest they both have very nice cameras!
Straight up s8 is better. One thing IPhone really does have over Samsung is the optical zoom
I hate when Samsung phones overexpose the background like this. Can't cope with that. And trust me it does happen a lot.
I'm not an apple guy but at least iPhones don't get image burn like the AMOLED screens on Samsung phones. Already have image burn :/
Zhow you only have hunders thousands subs, yiu desrved more bro
But can the galaxy AirDrop footage to your MacBook? No.
Bravo at iPhone 7plus!! Samsung made very good job at her new phones these years!!
For you which one is better? For me its with the iphone, with its camera and audio
yes
I hate that S8 keep shifting exposure in the video shooting, it's really annoying
Would it be much to my galaxy s7?
That pixelation seems to be a problem with Android, and its codecs. Meaning the Bitrate will never compare to Apple's. That, along with the weird matte colors are key factors to turn me away from the Galaxy.
This was a really high quality, informative video bro, hat off to you. I've got the S8 currently, and as much as I prefer Android, with my taste for shooting video I'd happily sacrifice the high colour profile for that epic noise reduction and telephoto zoom capability. Thanks dude.
Thanks, Jamie!
The sound is a bit weird, it sounds too edited.
but my problem on the s8 when you vlog the sky is white you cant see the cloud
😁The Google's Pixel😆 lol
wah s8
S8!! 👌👌 but the Pixel is also still very good!!
