  • Internet
The term "internet" encompasses the entire global network of connected computers, servers, and other devices that communicate using the Internet Protocol (IP). It includes:
Surface Web: The portion of the internet that is indexed by search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. This is the part of the internet most people interact with daily, including websites, social media, and online stores.
Deep Web: Parts of the internet not indexed by search engines. This includes content behind paywalls, password-protected sites, private databases, and other restricted-access areas.
    Deep Web
The deep web refers to all parts of the internet that are not indexed by standard search engines. This vast segment of the internet includes:
Private Databases: Academic databases, medical records, financial records, and other sensitive information stored online but not accessible to the general public.
Password-Protected Sites: Email accounts, online banking, subscription services, and other websites that require login credentials.
Intranet Sites: Internal networks of organizations, including company intranets and private networks.
The deep web is not inherently malicious; it's simply the portion of the internet that remains hidden from standard search engine crawlers for privacy and security reasons.
    Dark Web
The dark web is a subset of the deep web, intentionally hidden and accessible only through special software, most commonly the Tor (The Onion Router) network. Key characteristics include:
Anonymity: Users and websites on the dark web are anonymized using various encryption techniques to mask their identities and locations.
Special Software: Access typically requires specific software, such as the Tor browser, which routes internet traffic through a series of volunteer-operated servers to obscure users' locations and usage.
Illegal Activities: While not all content on the dark web is illegal, it is often associated with illicit activities such as drug trafficking, illegal firearms sales, human trafficking, and other black market services.
The dark web can also host legitimate uses, such as providing a platform for whistleblowers, activists, and journalists operating in oppressive regimes to communicate securely.
    Summary
Internet: The global network including the surface web, deep web, and dark web.
Surface Web: Publicly accessible websites indexed by search engines.
Deep Web: Non-indexed parts of the internet, including private and password-protected content.
Dark Web: Anonymized, hidden part of the deep web, often associated with illicit activities but also used for privacy-focused legitimate purposes.
