Nice rundown! And while Sonicstate is mostly about hardware, i'm actually a little surprised it took this long for this plugin to make ripples. I was part of the beta test (though in all fairness i didn't contribute much, since it ran smoothly for me throughout), and later bought it on intro price. _Money well spent!_ I'm not a fan of the big "do it all" synth plugins with 10 pages of settings, 10 ADSRs, 10 LFOs etc. Which many developers seem to always go for. It's just too much, and quickly becomes bothersome to program, so unless you're more about sound design than music making, it's not for you. Not so with Hive! I found it very simple and accessible while retaining keys features to craft a considerable scope of sounds. The presets are nice and useful, but it's not a pain to program your own.
Excellent review Ben. I was an early adopter and can say it is a most excellent synth. I hope you release a sound bank for this because that last patch was top!
Great run-through of Hive and its sound design features. I tried this during the beta, but didn’t think too much of it at the time, thinking I was well-covered already with the more powerful Zebra and Diva, but since then it has become my go-to synth for most things when I need to make something that sounds great quickly. The user interface is amazingly intuitive, and I like how I can just add as many instances as I want with no track freezing necessary (as I quickly need to using Diva on my 2012 laptop). Another thing I quite like is how I usually don’t have to hunt for presets for long before I find something that sounds great in the mix where I feel I spend more time previewing presets than making music whenever I look through the Zebra and Diva catalogues. In fact, if I for some bizarre reason had to choose just one synth to keep, I think Hive would be my first choice. It’s just got everything I need so easily available. After watching this and noticing some features I’d actually not noticed, I’ll try my hand at some more sound design with it next time I use it. I’ve simply not had to yet since the presets are great straight out of the box, and any tinkering I do is usually just to adjust the arpeggiator, effects and finding one parameter to automate which - as you’d expect - usually ends up being filter cut-off. I’d highly recommend Hive. It sounds great and is a joy to use if your focus is on the music. ruclips.net/video/gZ_R-ZFNm8E/видео.html
wait, ben crossland?! werent you the guy who did the bootcamp videos for the Virus back in the days?? :) im sure - you were that guy !! so whats up with access man? do we get the next virus one day? :)
+99tropix whenever this happens, just press escape to get out of full screen mode, that should work to start the real video. If not, then reload page and that will work as well. ......At least this works for me. I never have to watch ads on youtube doing either of, or both of these work-a-rounds.
If anyone can tell me where I can get the first patch which introduces the video (Hiven BC) I wold eternally appreciate it. Working on a project and I've stumbled onto this, now I'm obsessed. Please HELP!!! Thanks
I was about to chime in on that. Yeah, the "Peaking" filter is somewhat similar to the "EQ Peaking" or even the "BP RezBand" filter in Zebra, though I'm not sure how those compare (exactly) to the active resonance in Hive's Peaking filter, and of course it also depends on what synth engine you're using (clean/dirty/normal).
That opening patch sounds unreal.

Excellent review, Ben! And your work on the Virus rocks!
after much deliberation i bought it. like you say it sounds fantastic and you can run heaps of instances without blowing out your cpu
Great review thanks Ben

nice!, as an old fan boy of access virus, its nice to see you Ben, I hope you will do more reviews for sonic state
Wow, I really like your ending patch :)
Excellent overview. Now it's time to make some music. Thank you.
A1 Review, a very powerful synth we have here. The UI I'm still undecided about, but excellent possibilities.
Michael Otton The UI looks actually different, just take a look at the u-he website

Hands down best review of the synth or any other in the universe. please review every thing I buy from now on...thank you sir..lol
Most underrated synth out
is there an other VSTI maybe similar to Hive but for free ? Or another VSTI with great Electronic sounds for Techno, House, Hardstyle, EDM ?
The first patch reminded me of the Alesis Andromeda. Wow.
Great review. Thankyou!
A two-minute ad that can't be skipped? Wow.
+99tropix ouch, no control over that I'm afraid. Who was it for?
+sonicstate No problem chaps - I've noticed that it's RUclips-wide. It was an Arturia ad
+99tropix Of all the ads to get, I'd say its a good choice. :D

C'mon you guys, watch the ads and give Sonicstate some change :)

very cool.
Good Sound! feel like Sylenth1!
I prefer the blue one also
BEST SYNTH EVER_
Diva's better
Really good review!!!!
good review, and I'm sure it's a great product- it sounds great, but I prefer physical knobs and sliders and not having to rtfm ;)
How in the name of all things holy do you not know what a peaking filter is as a paid reviewer of a software synthesizer
and no, it's not a 1 pole bandpass

maybe a bit too much of a sylenth copy?
+Geert Stapelkamp good point. they seem to have a lot of the same capabilities
Sounds pretty nasty but great review!
DUNE 2 sounds wayyy better then Hive IMO ! Dune 2 sounds has more over all weight to it sounds ..HIVE not so much.
+ninjafukwan7 not agree. Tested Dune - it's need fir improving the stereo with additional panoramic fx's. Here u no need to improve it:)
They are both cool but I don't share your sentiments. U-he are masters at soft synthesis. Unparalleled with every product they relase imho.
+ninjafukwan7 Both are fine. They can compliment each other. No need to compare.
