Hey, yesterday on Friday, I had a big laser pointer pointed at my eye by some random guy in school while changing for PE, it was only for a Second by I saw all blue for a sec, and my eye has been kinda burning for a while since Friday, should I be worried?
Mine feels weird for 7 years after an incident with a red one a few days with relief these lights are no joke and should be permanently banned from all countries and should be getting 20 years in prison am trying to make them permanently banned one day
I'm wondering. When I was 12, I got hit in my right eye by a tennis ball, and I remember that I saw in black and white for a few minutes. A few days after that, I saw an opophthalmologist who diagnosed a retinal detachment (or maybe just a wound threatening to induce a detachment, I don't remember exactly). I have to see him a few times, for laser sessions. He was putting a kind of lens under my eye, and then sending a laser beam (green) by small pulses. I had to pause sometimes because it was giving me a headache, and also I felt my eye warming up slightly. Two questions, if it is in your field of expertise : - Did my eye really warm up ? (because it's been years, and maybe my brain is building false memories), - I had to stare at a fixed point in front of me (a button on his shirt to be precise), what did I risk if I looked elsewhere while being "shot" by a pulse of the green laser beam ? Thank you ! (Sorry for taking your precious time, but man I'm so curious of this field of medicine !)
Heating up makes sense as the laser is essentially concentrated energy, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the heat was coming from the laser machine. Also by staring elsewhere the surgeon would have had a hard time aiming at the correct location and may have lasered a part of the retina that didn’t need lasering !
Hi i have a question. I went to the optitians because i noticed a small blck dot in my vision. It slowly goes away now but will it ever go completeflt. (bwy the eye doctor said my retina had not been damaged)
So I have just bought a galaxy projector that has green laser stars. I try to avoid getting the beams in my eyes but it projects all across the room so every now and then I get hit for like a fraction of a second before I avert my eyes. Are these things harmful? Because my left eye felt weird since yesterday that I used this projector for the first time, though I don't remember hit in that eye in particular or for long. I'm a bit worried.
Thanks for the good explanation, a kid was shining with a laserpointer in peoples eyes but when asked to stop with that all he did was put on an attitude (kids these days apparently do not get educated properly) i knew why it wasnt good for the eye and the effects but could not find the correct words so this helped me alot in explaining it to the kid what the possible dangers are with those things. I have a question: So when I was 15, I put a laser on my eye. Like I put the laser in contact with my eyelid and pressed the button. And it shine red and I looked at it with my eyes closed. That said, when I have something like dry eyes or cracked lips, etc., the thing that fixes it for me is drinking more water. You're supposed to drink like 2 to 4 Liters of water every day. I admittedly fail to do that somewhat often, which tends to be when have those issues, especially in the winter or when there's low humidity.
@@absolarix although water never hurts, dry eyes are more so to do with the eye physiology losing homeostasis. It could be due to so many different factors like diet (omega-3 intake), behavioural differences like not enough blinking and also external factors like dust, sand etc
Is it bad to look at the laser your target practice but not looking at the laser directly. I mean just using the laser as a target practice. Does looking at the pointer is bad too?.
I once looked at the reflection of a green burning laser in dark carpet and google made me worried I was going to have permanent damage but I don't think I did, at least nothing very visible. One other question I have is about old flash bulbs that use magnesium, they are super bright but only for 1/20th of a second, I accidentally set one off with static right in front of my face, the entire center of my vision was like one of those dark spots from looking at a normal lightbulb, it went away is a minute or two but I am wonder if they can really do any damage other than if they explode
Good question Ben! That would depend on the radiant intensity of the bulb as well as the frequency of light the bulb was emitting. If the light from the bulb hadn’t been amplified by stimulated emission I can’t imagine it carrying more energy than a laser pointer for a given segment. I sometimes have patients that have had arc wielding flashes, most have no apparent damage to their eyes but I have come across a few that had scarring that may have been from that (none that was sight threatening though)
So is it direct light only? Or can laser damage your retina from shining a Laser "red light therapy" device onto the cheeks that causes indirect exposure? I've been trying to answer this, which is what brought me to your video. Thanks!!

Can looking at the laser reflection on the wall harm the eyes (not the source). And does the length of time looking at the laser reflection has effect on the eyes
I'm not an expert but looking at a laser in a mirror is 100% as bad as looking at it directly. Everything else should absorb most of the energy. But how much gets sent back probably depends on how reflective (smooth/shiny) the object is, as well as the color. Something black should absorb more energy and reflect back less energy than something white.

Sir, Hi. Do you know how much mw on avarage are the machines in grocery stores where you put your products code bars to check the prices? I was wearing some tinted prescription glasses of security that I use in work, they are made of some sort of plastic so my concern is... When I checked the coding bar ( bar codes) of some socks, the plastic bag which I placed underneath ( very close to the mirror where the laser beam is ) the machine red super bright laser reflected / shined ( indirectly and without a particular pattern, just everywhere ) a lot on the surface of the white sticker where the code bar is and the bag surface and my eyes hurt in that moment. Did I possibly cause damage? Because I was wearing plastic security regular tinted indoor outdoor security glasses and my retina could possibly be in that moment more open and vulnerable to exposure due the tinted feature and the shine of the laser in the surface of the plastic bag and sticker reached and hurt momentarily my retina? I saw the beam shine for 3 to 4 seconds. Thank you for your time
Although it would be impossible for me to know for sure but usually red lasers don’t carry enough energy to burn through your retina after 4 seconds so I’m guessing and hoping there wasn’t much damage there!
@@AntonioTheOptom This is actually something of an issue in many workplaces as they are increasingly using these scanners at close range on reflective surfaces to read and track barcodes. Over the course of weeks, it led me to constant eye inflammation, migraines, and blood shot eyes. Now any type of direct exposure from even the scanners in stores causes eye swelling and migraines, any idea how to correct such a thing. And unfortunately most people thing your full of excrement for even mentioning its illegal to have the lasers pointing and shining at people's faces in entryways and hallways....
Great video on eyes & lasers. Have you done anything on mobile LEDs: like flashlight, bicycle lights or utility lights & eyes. Sure LED light gets deminished with distance due to dispersion, but many are getting to be very intense. And they are more common that open use lasers. Also, no many would recognise the retinal damage, actually to Google it reveals no cases (up til 28 Dec 2021). But I think that is just because the general public cans see the very small pinpoint or line retinal damage.
I would assume longer distances would have more particles in the lasers path so would have less energy but by how much would depend on the power of the laser

I pointed a my cats laser pen at my eye and the next morning my eyes are hurting as if I have eye strain, like whenever I move my eyes I can feel a sort of ache, and my eyes hurt more when I look up
Is this a bad thing? 😅
Did it go away
@@ErickGarcia-cj2uf turns out it was a covid symptom 😭
Are infrared 810nm laser dangerous?
Probably no more than regular red 😀
depends on the wattage but they can be
I am curious when I was a young child at 8 years old pointed a cheap lazer into my eyes looking into it I see ok I still wear glasses none bifocal I’m 27 now nervous about the question I wanted to know btw love your Vids I’m just scared because I am near sided for real
Lasers shouldn’t affect short sightedness all too much
Just bought a laser pointer, this helped understand why they are bad for my eyes!
Glad I could help! 👍
This video is way too high quality for these numbers lol, I hope you blow up
What if accidentally put it on my eye for 5 sec?
i did the same too bro are you facing any problems please reply
I have the blue laser ?
they usually don't travel as far
@@AntonioTheOptom no ,but the laser light travels far distance
2:35 *energy
My bad! Hahaha I was talking in the context that light = electromagnetic radiation = energy . But sorry for the confusion!
I have personaly had high strength ones pointed at my eyes and into the ear, I Felt like fainting and shortness of sight. I reported it but nothing was done as I couldn't catch it on camera. One was coloured but the other seemed like a clear beam that bounce or reflected of things .
Same my right eye feels weird for 7 years now
@@sarsvfx and unfortunately authorities do nothing, if injure maybe lawyers CAn help.
@@myyoutube6978 nah am good its just that these lights are no toys and should be permanently banned in all countries laser should be treated as guns not for fools so much fools playin with this thing
Great video! Hope you blow up soon! Heres some engagement for the algorithm
*flashbacks to when I pointed a cat toy laser in my eye for a split second* what do I do
A split second shouldn’t do much harm 😁👍
I accidentally pointed a laser at my eye and my eye wants to close for some reason is that bad and what should I do
What sort of laser was it?
A small keychain sized red lazer
@@axo5308 if it was brief it should be aight 👍
Hi, my laser has a cover with different holes to change the laser to little blurred or more brighter laser and all of it gone and also the scope part to make laser look dot and now i just look inside of it (i forgot what i saw) i just press the button and flashes into my eyes but i.m still ok and never do it again.
Can a 300mw laser be harmful if you point it at your eye for a split second or just by looking at it on a surface
Probably won’t cause blindness but would be best to get it check out just in case
Can looking at the laser reflection on the wall harm the eyes (not the source). And does the length of time looking at the laser reflection has effect on the eyes
Yes it can
I'm not an expert but looking at a laser in a mirror is 100% as bad as looking at it directly. Everything else should absorb most of the energy. But how much gets sent back probably depends on how reflective (smooth/shiny) the object is, as well as the color. Something black should absorb more energy and reflect back less energy than something white.
@@TheEgg185 he literally said reflection on wall not mirror
@@user-dl1us Because no walls are made out of mirrors, nor have paint or other coverings with similar levels of reflection.
I have a question man. Some fucking clown shined a blue lazor at my eye through my windshield on the freeway last night. It was blue. They were ahead of me taking an exit. I have 20% tint on my windshield. It glossed over my eye for a quick second. I’m worried about damage. What are your thoughts? Thanks bro.
That would be scary
Antonio can plus lens give you presbyopia or give you astigmatism if you use them for upclose work? im 19
Nope 😂 presbyopia is age related and glasses won’t change the shape of your eyeball (astigmatism)
@@AntonioTheOptom What are you thoughts about ortho K, would that help permanently change the shape of my eye and remove astigmatism?
@@ncg8224 astigmatism is usually permanent so it won’t ‘cure’ it per se. Try to lubricate your eyes regularly and don’t rub them
@@AntonioTheOptom thank you for your answers I damaged my eyes due to using the computer in the dark and rubbing my right eye too hard even though my optometrist said there was no signs of any corneal damage or abrasion
@@AntonioTheOptomSir, this was an interesting video.
Can a laser scanner at the supermarket for memberships and barcode scanning (NOT a laser pointer with warning) cause eye damage? I had My phone scanned and the person held the scanner guy high. Can that laser cause eye damage? This is in the USA, not Australia if that matters.
i put one to my eye cause im a dumb 9 year old lol
Love your content. Keep it up!
Thank you 😂
I'm so happy I just fixed my laser
I got pointed in the eyes very closed by a store scanner a few times. Will that damage my eyes?
no
I did that too
Me shining the car toy light at in my eyes when I was little …
Where do you live that 5mW green laser is illegal 😰 That sucks!
You're Explanation is very clear, informative and not boring i think i'll subscribe to your channel now
In England, the spectators point their laser on the goal keepers eyes on a professionel soccer match. Pure evil.
Wait, legit?
Lasers are illegal in stadiums though
What is the best procedure to check if the laser cause any damage to the retina? Some kids were playing with 100mW green laser with kaleidoscopic attachment and shined it to my eyes for a second.
same brother are u okay now?
@@user-dl1usyeah I think the attachment diffused it a bit.
@@sabotage3d i faced the same situation but the laser was close to my eye it hurted and i went to doctor now i need to get some pair of glasses

😮🎉
Great video on eyes & lasers.
Have you done anything on mobile LEDs: like flashlight, bicycle lights or utility lights & eyes.
Sure LED light gets deminished with distance due to dispersion, but many are getting to be very intense. And they are more common that open use lasers.
Also, no many would recognise the retinal damage, actually to Google it reveals no cases (up til 28 Dec 2021). But I think that is just because the general public cans see the very small pinpoint or line retinal damage.
Can it cause any more harm to the eye from a long or shorter distance?
I would assume longer distances would have more particles in the lasers path so would have less energy but by how much would depend on the power of the laser
ur explanation is way too complicated
i thought it's a white guy voice over lol
Hahahahaha
those jokes are cringe
thank you for the video, and now with my new-found knowledge, I will try and make a laser that points to people's eyes👍🏻.
keep up the good work btw
