To find the transcription, scroll down the video view page and open up the description. At the bottom of the description, there will be a button that says Show Transcript. Click on this and RUclips will open up the transcript on the right-hand side of the video, which you can now follow along with.

your article mentions youtube says 'transcriptions should be available in most of the videos.' well, apparently somehow I'm finding all the ones where it's not, because every one I check, I can't see the transcript. have you heard anything more? and yes -- restarted, cleared cache and cookies, powered down, restarted, etc etc etc. still no transcripts.

This is typically yt. Just removing a helpful feature to annoy the users, and to waste their time needing to watch through a video, potentially even showing multiple ads, thus making more money than if someone just looked thru the video transcript.
Yes, is missing here since yesterday. I can see the transcript on my ipad, but I have not found a way to copy and paste it. I usually watch talks/classes on RUclips and copy and paste parts of the talk I need and or find interesting. Does anyone knows how to copy and paste the RUclips videos transcripts using the ipad?

YT has been for years cutting down or dumbing down features.. e.g. email notifications, playlists features and performance, comments visibility, removing translation/transcript community contributions, experimenting with various user experience details with no need to mess with.. (e.g. thumbnail "add to queue" button in subscriptions feed page) ; a lot of them probably under the (not stated) excuse of freeing server side load.. but a lot of it can be pushed client side (e.g. playlist shuffle feature, which now, on PC, is running eventually into loops or 10 or even 2 tracks) ...the affirmative action hiring must be paying off
oh, and how cool are the shorts with no control for timeline scrolling or volume.. nor 'save to playlist' option
looks like transcripts option for some and not for others is part of their "market study", but as another user pointed out it seems ChatGPT is the reason for the feature going away
As far as saving shorts to playlist... on desktop, if you go to History, wait for like 7-10 seconds, then move cursor all around the area of the vid, the "three dot thing" will show up and allow you to save to playlist.

I had the same problem and solved it by switching on "Enable auto-generated subtitles (when available)" in Playback and quality in Settings of RUclips account

Finally found a way to view transcripts that seems to work on Nov. 21, 2023, Click [...more ] in the text description below the video screen to give the full description . A [Show Transcript] button should show up near the bottom of the text description (and above comments). If not, YT may have changed their interface again.

fixed for some videos, the problem still persists for some videos. I think it's from youtube. thank you for not leaving us alone while surfing the forums with this stupid problem
When they don't fix simple issues with just one line of code or simply 'cripple' a feature it means ... you don't need to know.
RUclips doesn't want ChatGPT to summarize videos. Because people wont watch them, then people wont watch ADs, then people wont generate money for youtube.
you know what, that might be it.. thanks.. once again YT shows us why we can't have nice things: we need an external automated transcription/captioning tool

What's the update ?
I know what is going on, I don't solution but know what's happening with yt
So basically, when I login youtube in same browser that account I created on yt newest version of youtube app
then It showed new theme and also new transcript option
when I logined with old acc then the option disappeared.
when I open yt with inspect page and head to setting and allow custom css option then it showed up again
The setting which google stores of 'custom css ON' is stored on account and language, if you set language to UK english
and then connect uk VPN then It will show up again.
Damn really messed up.
In conclusion, this thing cannot be fixed by us by entering into settings in google or other,
It can be fixed only by google when they update their account server or something IDK
I was looking into this as well, cannot find transcripts, so annoying.
Please open again! I'm worried when I don't see transcripts on RUclips :( I need them to learn :(

It seems Premium account's Open Transcript is repositioned . You have to click "show more" to find it. I hope it helps. I asked the Google/YT support, they led me through different ways for almost one hour but couldn't find the solution. I found it out later so I hope this could save people's time. Good luck!
I only found the transcript ONCE like this, when RUclips itself TOLD ME to hit "show more" to see the transcript. Other than this, NO, this is NOT a solution for 99% of the videos without a transcript. Hitting "show more" does nothing.
This is not a BUG. The creator deliberately deleted the transcript when the video was uploaded. They remove transcript so people don't steal their scripts. I have also removed some of the transcripts on some of my videos on my channel. Transcript was deleted in RUclips Studio/Content/"specific video name"/Subtitles/duplicate and edit/delete. Hope this clarify
