It's a rough ride but it's all worth it in the end. One of the things I love in this show is how things can be bleak but because there are people who care, there's always hope.
This show is so gooddd. It is CRIMINAL that these videos don’t get more views. More people need to see this show.
I love the interactions between Alex and Lucia. It's clear that there's something between them, but lines are never crossed. He takes the opportunity to share the mistakes he made with his family so she doesn't make the same ones. In the books, it's explored in more detail how Alex is a dichotomy: he's the type that wants to have a family, or so he thinks; but his actions are consistently at odds with being a good father and husband. It's tragically realistic. We can all betray our dreams through our actions and failures.

Great reaction Meg! I think the Belters need the lithium ore to trade because they can't grow food so far on Ilus, nor is there anything indigenous in the flora or fauna that they can eat. Not sure it was made that obvious, but I think that is the case.
It's also just their livelihoods. Like if they can't trade it, they don't have any supplies and they're just gonna die by starvation. Or they'd have to go back, and into the home they just ran away from. They sacrificed so much to leave already. To go back means to go back to prison, or stuck in the same system that ruined their lives in the past.
I totally love the character of Elvi. Her scientist sensibilities are a great foil to Holden's pragmatic pessimism, and I love how she consistently holds his feet to the fire and makes him explain what the fuck is going on! Also, if you ever read the books, Elvi Okoye is a VERY important character later on. One of the most important, in fact.
Also, DEATH SLUGS. Death slugs might be the most horrifying thing ever, in this show or anywhere. They give me fucking nightmares.
The only thing that could make death slugs worse is if you couldn't see them...

@@Icypenguigo Like, if they made some kinda sound, it might not be quite so bad, or if there were fewer of them. As it stands, it's basically just a slow-motion tide of ultra-death that strikes at random.

Season 4 might be the most poignant season of the show, it is a great representation of the kinds of stories often produced by our current geopolitical reality. IE Corporate collaboration with government to legitimize its exploitation and unregulated local manipulation are the forces at Murtry’s back, making him the representation of today’s corporate villains. But the massive loss of 23 of his own colony, mostly civilian deaths is difficult to quantify in so far as motivation, and a better man might’ve been driven mad by such a loss. Murtry on the other hand, now has the perfect excuse to be his worst self, and he’s good at his job, which is a dangerous combination.
To comment on a couple high contention points.
In a perfect world, I think concessions would be made for the belter refugee colony claiming Yllus, due to their refugee status. People had been turning them away for almost a year, a UN Court should take that into account.
If Murtry hadn’t been so trigger happy to kill Coop, they might have eventually gotten the full story, and the right people could have been brought to real Justice. The extremists weren’t shown to be hostile until Coop got got.
RCE also chose to land in the same place as the belter settlers, instead of on the other side of the planet. Which to me is an act of colonial aggression as is, no matter what the cover story is. It’s a corporate charter landing at a locally established mining operation, it’s essentially an occupation, service with a smile.
RCE is clearly depending on the comms delay home, as well as the chaos inherent to the mission to do whatever is necessary to have a piece of the protomolecule.
Murtry is in the right place at the right time for his very wrong but strategically strong instincts to flourish.
I like the show's choices in adapting Elvi's character from the book. I really buy her as a scientist.
How different is she in the books?

I really LOVE your reactions, but was wondering why you keep mispronouncing Amos' name. I have a speech impediment so some letter combinations are still difficult for me (they used to be impossible). You keep saying Amos as 2 words and a long O - as if it were A-mOs. It is a short "o" pronounced as if it were Amus. I really don't care too much, but was curious why this is.
I actually enjoyed Chrisjen letting loose F bombs in earlier season when it was used sparsely and almost strategically from a position of power to underline her points. This season it just seems to be out of frustration and crankiness. Not a great look imo. Although in the books, she's far more prolific in her profanity, but always entertaining in her creativeness, not so much here.
she's totally out of her element and losing it, badly. She told Sorrento-Gillis back in, what, S2 that she never wanted to be in public office. She has always been the power behind the throne, playing her games of political chess out of the limelight.
In the books she curses even more. It's great.
