My Beach Boys Playlist! • The Beach Boys
In this Surfer Girl guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all the chords for this much loved classic ballad by The Beach Boys.
The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.
There are some absolutely beautiful harmonies sung in "Surfer Girl", and those harmonies are played on guitar as well, making these some great sounding chord progressions to play.
I will cover each chord progression in the order that each appears on the original recording. I will start by demonstrating exactly how Al Jardine played the chords back in the early sixties. I will also give a couple of different ways to more easily play some of the difficult chord voicings found in the song, to make it a bit easier.
There are also a couple of chords in the chorus that are played with a higher voiced triad on the guitar, with the bass guitar keeping the foundation of the chord progression sounding nice a full. I will show you how to play those chords with a different voicing so that you can play this without a bass guitarist's help, and still have the chords sound nice a full. This will be fully explained in the video lesson.

For those who can't sing in the falsetto range like Carl, this song really lends itself to an arpeggio picking pattern that includes the melody. The melody notes are in almost all of the chords that Carl is playing, except in the bridge where the open A chord is substituted for the higher A position. Hey, your videos are always very informative. Love it! Have you ever given a lesson on how to use the thumb to play bass notes? I find it difficult to use my thumb to play chords like "pinball wizard" where the thumb is used to play the main riff. Thank you.

i grew up listening to hardcore thrash and punk, pretty much into metal now, so people look at me weird when i say brian wilson is the greatest composer/songwriter/producer/mad man genius of our time, and he was lightyears ahead of his time...i mean....paul mcartney once said "god only knows" was the greatest song ever written , brian onece used a sample of sir paul eating celery in a song, fukn genius,....mad man.... but one the greatest musical minds known to man.
