***** When I look for for a computer or cellphone I dont look for Ferrari, Armani. If you want a good watch, then look for a company that is specialized in watches, same with headphones, I preffer my AKG, Senheisser, audiotechnica, sony(the old ugly ones) Imagine a doctor using xray machine that says Victoria secret and and laser scalpel by Dr DRE....
Daniel Guerrero Dude, nobody is trying to prove you wrong. It's your choice if you'd rather pay for an inferior sound quality product because it's got a fancy brand image. Those of us who truly enjoy our music will buy the product that allows our lovely music to sound more pleasing to our ears, while those who'd rather go around flaunting their status will buy the Beats. It's that simple. Regardless, I chose the V-Modas; the sound quality is better, they're sturdier (you can bend them in all sorts of acute angles and they will just bounce back, so they're more likely to survive in bags/suitcases/etc), the bass is punchier, and you can personalise them much more than the Beats by having custom artwork put on the side plates, which can be swapped by undoing the small hex bolts.
I'm wearing mine now. I LOVE them. But they're not perfect. Here's my thoughts, Sound: 10/10 Style: 9/10 Durability: 10/10 Comfort: 3/10 Portability: 10/10 The things feel like a vice on my head. The top of my ear gets jammed into the top of the ear cup. BUT, the XL memory cushions fix all comfort problems. Overall, insanely good headphones if you buy the XL pads with them.
V MODA M100 is a better buy. I have both of these headphones, including the beats pros. The V modas are my go to headphones out of the three. So that says a lot. I'm actually going to sell my Pros, it was a waste of money. However the studio's 2013 are good headphones, but definitely not worth the price. Don't fall under the beats spell like I did. I regret spending money on my beats
I have been a DJ for 15 years and I've used about 10 different high quality headphone brands over the years. I own the V-Moda M-100's, Crossfade LP's, and their earbuds the ZN's. They are all amazing and blow away anything you can find in a retail store such as Beats, Bose, JBL, Sony Etc. You won't go wrong with any V-Moda product.
I've had experience will every single headphone V-Moda has to offer from the Crossfade LP to the Crossfade Wireless but I never ventured into their earbuds. How are the ZN's?
I was reading several amazon reviews on the V Moda- M 100 and a lot of people were saying how the hinges on their headphones kept breaking and it had me wondering about the build quality. I don't want to drop a lot of money on some headphones that are going to break easily.
Andy the Cat Such issues are usually in small numbers and the fact that V-Moda offers a 2 year warranty on the M-100s as well as free out of warranty mechanical repairs makes getting them fixed a bit easier. That being said, while yes V-Moda headphones have had issues before, that doesn't mean that they're complete shit and various factors always go into this. Every single pair of V-Moda cans I've had never had issues beyond the usual wear and tear that comes with using a device everyday.
Game Collector compared to what? the beats? hell no... the beats are 100% toy plastic that'll break in no time, and sound like dollar store headphones. the modas actually have a sound stage and the bass is refined and deep. plus its 70% metal and will never break on you.
Oscar Wiley 2013 studios, not the original ones that are pieces of junk. Also batteries are generally required for active noise canceling. You're entitled to your opinion though...
Calen Ward but at the same time the noise cancelling isn't all that great, they just kinda apm the bass up with that one. The newer studios are good but they have issues like charging it too long, a huge stepdown from the pros which sound great but of course they are 100$ more. Also some buzzing sound when nothing is playing but that might just be me
I've both these cans and this review is very accurate comparison. The new beats studio are a great headphone and all round improvement from the original design, however they are overpriced and would fare better by at least fifty dollars lower in price than they are currently, but hey, beats sell millions of studio's every year at current pricing, so they've no need to drop price from their perspective. Both excellent cans with M-100's having the quality edge and value for money.
The good thing about UrAvgConsumer's reviews is that they cover a lot of the practical aspects of the gear, not just the sound. For instance, he talks about the compactness of the cases, which is actually quite important for portable headphones. I have the Momentum over-ears, but their hard-shell cases are impractically big, and although they sound quite nice, it's not really good for portable use unless I can get another case for it. The fact that they don't fold doesn't help, either. The fact that audio isn't the main/one and only focus may be a drawback for some, but I'd go to head-fi and read up on some threads if I wanted FR charts or educated opinions. Good job as always, man. Both headphones are consumer-ish sounding, perhaps the M-100 is tuned for DJs, since they have that "DJ-headphone-like," or "V-shaped" response. However, they are very nice for just carrying around and listening to music on the go, since the extra bit of accentuation cuts through, even with all the ambient noise. The new studios seem to be decent ("lolwut," right?); I've read several posts on head-fi on the portable-shootout thread from a while back that give them favorable reviews and assessments.
Lol, Beats do get a lot of flack. They are easily the most popular brand yet they are easily the most criticized. I think the main beef folks have with Beats is they marketed them as you hear what the artist intended and that simply is wrong. They are not audiophile headphones and not accurate. They are, however, fun to listen to and bassy which appeals to the average consumer along with the looks and marketing. I don't have a real problem with Beats apart from their BS slogan but the fact is that despite being improved over the years and not being that bad they are still charging much more than what you could get from other companies. I think too many people get hung up on the fact that they are not accurate because,in truth, most people actually don't care for an accurate sound but rather a fun sound and seeing as sound is subjective to the individual, no one can tell someone what is "better" because "better" is a personal perspective. Just like music. Myself? I too dislike most "audiophile" rated HPs, they simply lack too much bass. I much prefer something that has a balance of great sound stage, imaging, tight yet powerful bass that doesn't muddy up the mids which should not be too laid back with sparkly treble that is still smooth, not harsh. A sound that is slightly on the warm side.
+schlooonginator Beats arent that good in the issue of bass.they are still sucking, cuz there are many headphones with much better bass and sound quality.for example, the m100s and the sonys xb950bts.;D
the game freak Oh, I agree with you . I can only really go by what I have read reviews wise from respected reviewers like Tyle. For him to seriously compare the Solo 2 to a Sennheiser Urbanite(which I did get) tells me they are at least attempting to improve sound quality. I still feel,as you and most knowledgable headphone fans do, that Beats are generally mediocre at crazy prices. I would love the V Moda M100. The JVC HASZ2000 looks really interesting also. They offer a ton of technology in that headphone for the monry including dual drivers with one made from CNT utilizing some bass reflex design ...looks very interesting.
Look.your also right.Beats are good, but for the price not.their real price should be 100$.sennheiser bose and other stuff can't compare with them.they are in another level.people buy beats just by the name.i am thinking of buying the sennheiser momentum 2 ( wired ) or the sony xb950bt. The plantronics have anc, nfc etc.but they look awful though.
***** You have to admit though, the new beats are more than good enough for average daily use. If people are going to be bending their headphones like he does in the video, that is a different story because most people would never do that. Most people would just slightly extend the headband to fit them over their head, which the beats can do just fine without feeling flimsy or anything else. I'm not being a beats fanboy, I just wonder why people would have anything to complain about as far as build quality as the video in mrpenguman gave a link to.
Not destroy. It's slightly better. Besides why does everyone hate beats? I bet 80% of you have NEVER used beats and are just saying that. Beats do not suck they are just over priced
Great review. The M100 you can get XL pads that provide more comfort. Besides the custom side plates on the M100, the basic color options are what you have plus the matte black and pearl white.
The V-moda Crossfade M-100 is in a completely different league than the Beats. Beats are overpriced garbage. They break, they sound like crap. No contest here. I've heard both and I bought the M-100.
+Khalil Montana Not really. Beats are brittle and can't even survive a single drop onto carpet. If V-Moda made the M100 in olive drab, the military might even buy it.
+Sai Namuduri HAHA! I received a set of Beats Studio's ( First Generation ones ) through work and they are by no means brittle, at all. Plus they've survived this long with multiple drops. While they aren't as durable as the V-Moda's, they aren't going to break when dropped on carpet. Stop saying stupid shit.
I own both. And yeah... The V-modas are on a "whole 'nother level". The difference is that even though they're both made with high quality material, the Beats range is 20-20 like all other headphones. The V-Modas range is 5-30. Lower lows, higher highs. If the Skullcandy aviators were sound-cancelling, they'd be the same as the beats. The M-100's are special.
Beats are over priced monster headphones. Your basically getting mediocre sound with forced muddy bass rather then smooth punchy bass. Beats are in the same category as skull candy and Sony, but yet are priced as much or more then some respected audiophile brands... How does that happen. Monster made beats, and beats has monsters design, sound, technology, and even still uses monster cables. So why pay 300$ or more for beats when you can buy monster headphones for 100-200$. Same thing with sol republic, sol republic is made by Kevin Lee, who is Noel Lee's son who owns monster. So sol republic uses that similar sound and bass found in monster products as well as beats. Yet you can buy the sol republic master tracks for 100$, and the beats studios, (which are NOT even studio grade headphones by any means) for 300$. So your paying 200$ more for that B on the side. Most monster headphones cost 100$ or maybe a little more. Beats which was made by monster using the same sound signature, technology, monster design, and cables, costs triple what monster and sol republic cost. So there you go, that's why beTs is over priced, considering you can get the same quality and sound for 1/3 of the price. As far as beats being a studio headphone... I know people have different preference in sound, but like I said with beats your paying triple for the same sound signature found in Monster and sol republic. Aside from what you see in music videos, and the artists who are paid to wear them, what artist worth millions of dollars, is going to go buy cheap wal-MART headphones, and use them in a multi million dollar studio, while everything else in the studio is top of the line ?? Wether it's monster, skull candy, Beats, or sol republic, none of these headphones are capable of studio use !! Studio headphones need to have certain frequency ranges, and clarity, and need to have 24-bit sound reproduction which none of these headphones have, including the beats studios !! So when buying the beats studios your paying for the name, because nothing else can justify someone paying triple the money for beats when monster and sol republic cost much less and use the same sound and were created by the same company !! I know beats became it's own company after Jimmy lovine and Dr dre screwed monster on the contract, and stole their beats line, but beats still uses the same headphones design, technology, monster cables (but took monster logo off the cables) and for the most part Beats still uses monsters sound signature with minor improvements lately.
Fred Brown Okay, honestly, I do not like the sound signature of Beats. But, if you're like most people who own Beats, you've never heard anything else better and you don't care. And in that regard they are great. Yes, you can get better. But no they aren't THAT bad. Sure, overpriced, but you can find them cheaper if you really look. Also, the Beats in this video, along with any of them you can get now, are no longer produced or affiliated with Monster. This changed the quality and ability of them significantly. Beats are now much better made. Also, the sound quality has improved A LOT. When owned by monster, yes, they were some of the shittiest most over-priced things on the market. Now, i would recommend the V-Modas over the Beats, but your info is wrong and I figured I'd inform you.
They are no longer made by Monster yes, but when dre and Jimmy lovine left and walked with the beats line, they walked with rights to monsters design, drivers, cables, ect... All of this is still used on beats. Beats has look exactly like monsters cables without the logo. they still use the same design, and same drivers, and they still have the false claim of being studio grade headphones!! they've just had a slight tuning upgrade and are now made of more durable plastic. HTC did a slight EQ upgrade on them with the solo HD's and Apple took a page out of sol republics book and used a stronger plastic and they tuned the headphone drivers once again in the solo 2's but that's it, they have better plastic and a slight tuning upgrade, they still use the same drivers, same design, same cables that were originally created by monster!! So they are still the same product just with a slightly tuned EQ and tougher plastic, all the inner working are the same as always !! An EQ upgrade still doesn't justify their price!! So your wrong just thought I'd inform you !! The solo 2's are much better then the original beats solos. But I'm looking more at the beats studios, mixers, and pros. These are not justfied for their price, especially when brands like sol republic, and Sony have headphones in direct competition with beats with Better clarity, bass, soundstage and separation for 1/2 or 1/3 of the price!!! Beats makes mediocre headphones with a premium price tag, and the price is in no way justified !! Especially when you can buy sennhisers, NAD, PSB, JBL, audio tclechica, Agk, ect... For cheaper and all have far better sound and performance, and are actually studio grade !!
DarkSpark0325 Beats charges more then most audio companies for What ?? What are you paying for ?? With beats your paying for a name, and all that advertising you see. See this is where beats fails. Other "respectable" audio companies like jbl, and Sony, sennhiser, have been around for decades and put most of their money towards research, and sound testing, ect... While beats uses mediocre sound, and concentrates more on advertising and paying for celebrity to wear their product !! Jbl makes 70% of all the speakers and headphones you see at concerts, clubs, studios, ect.. and have for decades. SONY and sennhiser are both seen used in studios as well. You won't find beats used anywhere where audio and sound matters !! Beats makes an over priced, over hyped product that lacks the performance and sound of its competitors !!! Plain and simple !!
+Fred Brown no I actually do a lot of tear downs and the drivers are not the same at all the diaphragm is different just cause they didn't change the size doesn't mean they have the same design driver
Manuel Martinez that's bullshit !! Just calling you out ! I highly doubt you bought old and new beats headphones just to take then apart ...!! The beats line still uses all monsters technology !! Drivers, cables, and design !! Why would beats have taken monster to court to own the technology of the drivers, cables, and design if they didn't plan on using it ?? Now that Apple owns beats I'm sure they will start to use some of their own technology And stuff but as of right now, nothing is different !! They are afraid that if they change the sound to much or anything sales will drop !! Look it up man it's not that hard !! how do you know if the drivers are made with monsters technology or not ?? You can tell that just by looking them ??
I can bet my last dollar all of you guys who states "beats suck" never listened to them. Just want to jump on the hate bandwagon.Just like Justin bieber.
Kuroko Tetsuya Being overpriced does mean that they suck. If you bought some headphone with the worst sound quality, durability, and comfort in the world, would you say they're overpriced because they cost more than one cent, or would you say that they just genuinely sucked?
I have Vmoda and they last forever never had a headset this durable highly recommend. They sound great and save you money in the long run you won't replace them for years.
The mere fact that the M-100's will last as long as their condition permits compared to the Studio 2.0 and its wireless counterpart being completely useless once the integrated battery dies makes the M-100 a winner by default. As much as I like the fun factor that the Studio 2.0 offers, what's not fun are artificially altered highs that get grating at certain levels and a device that need a battery just to function.
My first V-Modas were the Crossfade LP2's, which were pretty nice, followed by the XS, which are friggin brilliant and HIGHLY recommended. I bought the Beats Studio 2 because I wanted a better over-ear set and they were on sale. They weren't bad honestly, but I returned them because I didn't like that they couldn't work without the noise cancelling option and had to be charged constantly. The sound is all right, better than most cheaper headphones but to me still not all that great. Then I bought the M-100s.... I am never buying another set of headphones. They are wonderful, in every way. There is no comparison. Get the V-Modas.
Are the hinges on them durable? I was reading several amazon reviews on the V Moda- M 100 and a lot of people were saying how the hinges on their headphones kept breaking and it had me wondering about the build quality. I don't want to drop a lot of money on some headphones that are going to break easily.
The M-100's have a 50mm driver and a 30mm driver inside of each headphone with the 50mm drive used only for bass, which means the music won't be drowned out by bass unlike the beats which have only 1 40mm driver thats used for everything along with a bult in EQ that increases the basses volume and in the end drowns out any other noise.
V Moda is designed for djs by djs comfort over long periods not an issue as you are taking them off a lot when mixing … Sound & durability are most important and V Modas come with a two year warranty and after two years a LIFE TIME replacement warranty in witch you only have to pay 50% of the cost .. the only way a Dj should use Beats is if he/she is paid to V Moda for win IMO
Vale Music As a DJ and producer, heading a headphone company just sounded like a natural career path for Val Kolton. “Because I travel around the world with world-renowned musicians and sound engineers, I’m able to draw on this experience to build a better headphone,” Kolton says. “I know what is needed for modern-day road warriors, as well as the requirements to produce a song on the road and play it live on stage.” Now as founder of V-MODA, Kolton sees his headphones worn by everyone from Kobe Bryant to Tom Cruise. samurai sheep yes, because I'll waste 300$ in some beats which are overpriced and sound like shit instead of buying the m100's which is one of the best headphones out there in the sound quality department.
Awesome review as always I have the vmoda lp the older pair and they still sound great they sound even better after a few hours of listening they have a burn in time
What up man. I just purchased the M100s based off of your reviews and countless hours hours of research, and I'm not hearing what everyone else is hearing. I purchased these on eBay from a reputable seller for 300$, and I'm coming from a pair of 1st gen studios. I tested them on my galaxy s4. The bass on the studios blows these away, even after turning the bass eq all the way to give the m100s a chance. I can barely hear bass on them! I would like to know more about your testing. Should the bass on these headphones be equivalent to the studios out the box, or will I have to amp these headphones to get the same results? I'm definitely not hearing the punchy, ear rattling bass I'm used to with the studios, and even tho I know the bass on the beats can be a bit exaggerated, I like to know that I can take it there if I want to. These definitely look real, have the serial number on the headphones and box, but I know there are fakes out there. Your opinion would be appreciated. Thanks!
My votes goes to M100! They are quite impressive headphone and this is bang for the buck for it's price / performance ration. Amazon got them on sale - *amzn.to/1drLM4p*
I have the V moda and i won't change it for anything in the world! Buy beats if you are in it for the fashion, but when i see someone with V moda i know that guy is interested in a QUALITY sound.
rockguy132 Vmoda Crossfade M-100 currently doing the job better than my beats Did. More compact, durable & sound quality is great. One thing I don't like, just a little nicety, the speakeasy mic cable that comes with it does not have volume control Where as the beats cable did. Other than that, Happy customer 😁
+1 on the review. I respect that a lot of non-audiophile consumers buy Beats, and they sound better than most generic, cheaper headphones, and the sound isn't completely garbage. V-Modas are more for a bit more audio focused people, that don't want to spend $600 and up on a solid home setup, and maybe aren't as comfortable with carrying around a more expensive headphone anyways. I just sent out an order for M100s :D Hoping they're a little more fun sounding than HD25s, been on them way too much because they've been within arms reach xD
I own a pair of vmoda headphone and ill tell you all, I love them... I was never a fan of beats, they just cost so much because of the fact its dr.dre... if you want headphone with awesome soumd quality always go with vmoda
I apologize for not reading through all the 2k comments (kudos to you!!), re: comfort - have you tried the memory-foam earcups on the v-100? I’ve seen that they vastly improve the overall comfort...
Beats have nice bass, but it's overpowering. V-Moda has a more clear bass, which is good. It has this airy sound to it, which I love, but some people don't.
Hobotron Beats studios have absolutely NO bass. I just got some a week ago. I have found that these Studios are actually excellent to watch movies and watch youtube videos, but it is very poor for actual music. I listen to music from country all the way to rap, and even hard rock.
Perry S Yeah, well that make sense since it's about creating a seal around your ear, but not necessarily true as a bassy pair of over-ears will outbass a not-so-bassy pair of cirumaural (around ear)
It's hilarious how defensive people get about a pair of head phones. Why do people care so much about what other people buy. I like beats just because I like the way they look more. The fact that they're over priced really doesn't affect me because I never pay full price for anything over $100. I just got the new studios for $91 brand new. I'm no audio head or anything near that. I just don't know why there's so much anger. I wonder if people will get angry because of this.
The only reason people buy beats are for the looks. And none of the actually know real quality audio. They might call themselves musicians or what else, but in reality, they know none.
The V-Moda is definitely better than the Beats Studio... my M100 is 1 1/2 year old and I'am still impress with its sound quality... A head turner too, because of its awesome design... thanks for the review Bro...
You ask yourself, if someone is an average listener that can't notice the little details that matter in the music, why spend so much on the headphones. A pair of cheaper ones will do the job just fine. I answer it with these two words. MARKETING through aggressive advertising, and IGNORANCE (not the consumer's fault, but people do have their priorities when it comes to what they wish to waste their hard earned money on. You can't crucify anyone for that.
Been waiting for this for a minute. I never thought I'd be a fan boy of anything besides the Vita but these M100's are amazing. Completely amazing experience anytime you put them on. They aren't reference quality so you'll need another pair for that if interested, but for an overall super enjoyable listening session with any genre, especially movies these are the shit
Hey there! Recently i had been watching on your videos and i feel that its really awesome! But do you have anything to do with the Bowers and Wilkins P7?
I have the bose qc35 that I use as my daily driver. I bought them 6 months ago for their convenience (ANC, bluetooth, easy pairing, comfort, ...). I'm not an audiophile by any means as I hardly ever hear any difference between flac and mp3, but lately I've been reading more into headphones. The dominant opinion seems to be that bose doesn't produce good sound. So after some research, I came across the V-MODA Crossfade M-100. The reviews are mostly positive. crisp sound. punchy bass. great build quality. Now my question is, is the upgrade in sound quality worth the $250? I'll mostly use them for music and TV, occasionally gaming.
So to summarize this video, the V-Moda M-100 sounds better, it is built way better, and it is more compact. I think the durability alone crushes the Beats plastic crap that is guaranteed to break in 3-5 months. I've been using my V-moda M-100 headphones for 3 years and they still look and sound like new. Also, the M-100 now cost only $270.
+Odell Beckham Jr's Hair he said he thinks not because he didnt know (the quality of the materials and build quality is fact and you can easily tell beats are built out of pretty cheap material and wouldnt last long if you arent careful), he said he thinks because he stated an opinion that for him just the durability is enough to make the m-100 better. Before you call someone a dunce you should look again and make sure you are reading it right.
Odell Beckham Jr's Hair please explain. Because you are calling someone a dunce for something that makes perfect sense. With it being an opinion saying "I think" in that case works, and doesn't mean it isn't a proven fact.
Hah, I wouldn't touch beats with a ten foot pole. They're way too pricey for their tier. Literally almost every quality it has is beat by m-100, or even the lp2. If you feel like shelling out 300$ every two months to replace a broken set of beats that never sounded that good in the first place, then you should seriously reconsider. Every dollar you give them tells all the headphone companies that marketing is superior to quality, and consequently you're adding to the eventual disappearance of genuinely good headphones by signaling investments are better spent on product placement than product research. You literally are the reason everything is shitty and made in China. Stop being that reason.
They're not, really comfortable actually. And if you find those to be a little uncomfortable, you can order XL Memory Cushions to replace it on V-MODA's website.
I've had a pair of the original crossfade LP's for 5 years and they're awesome. Super comfortable, and I wear them almost all day every day. I've only had discomfort while wearing glasses and even with glasses only after about four to five hours. I'm upgrading to the m100's soon and i'm sure they'll be just as comfortable.
Uravgconsumer, can you rank them from best to worst with no regard of price? Audio Technica athm50, v moda m100 , new beats studio, Bose qc 15 or Bose qc 20 i? Thx
Terrance Young yeah kinda like that marketing term used by beats "listen how the artist intended to" yeah a bass heavy headphone will definitely give you that right?
you must be one of those idiots who actually believe artists are actually going to Walmart and buying cheap beats headphones to use in multi million dollar top of the line studios lol... how is beats price justified ? I don't not like beats because I can't afford them, I have 900$ headphones but they were worth it. beats cost 200-400$ but yet sound like 60$ headphones. beats bass is muddy, and distorted, and the bass bleeds into the other audio and drowns it out, also beats highs hiss and crackle, none of this should be present in 200-400$ headphones !! monster created beats, yet people buy beats because they he a b on the side, because they need so desperately to fit in, and be like everyone else who want so badly to have the same headphones they see in a music video on MTV. it's called marketing, and just because you spend 200-400$ on headphones doesn't mean they are good. beats don't even have good bass yet everyone talks about how much bass they have. it's really sad, beats fanboys should stop shopping at Walmart and go buy some good headphones !! the sony mdrxb950bt cost 80$ and sound way better, look cooler and have way More bass the new beats studios. also the jbl synchros s500's cost anywhere from 60$-300$ and they destroy beats headphones !! you guys just buy beats because you see rappers on MTV wearing them, that's all it is, the only difference is they get paid to wear beats, so that idiots like you guys will buy them ! it's so funny that you beats fanboys think beats are so good lol... when in reality your just paying 300$ for 60$ headphones !! damn it's embarrassing, walking around with some cheap piece of plastic that you paid 200-400$ for just to wear on your neck lol, I just want you to know, you may think it's cool, but the rest of us are laughing at you lol... stop shopping at Walmart and get some good headphones... damn I mean you can get the same headphones that half the rappers and other artists are using in the studio for around 150$-250$ ! but your paying more then that for headphones that don't even sound good just because they have a b on the side !
Can you do a review on the Wild Kidz Headphones by Lil twist? I just wanted to know if they were any good and I haven't seen any reviews yet so I thought you could be the first. Thanks, the videos are great continue the good job.
For everyone who says beats suck and v-mod will always win or something like that, have you even tried them. Have you taken each of these and listened to them next to each other. And if you have, are a few percentages of extra bass or clarity actually noticeable. When it comes to any of these headphones, it basically comes down to style and what design and feel you want.
Beats are not very good on stage. The plastic they're made of breaks easily. V-Moda's are made of reinforced steel, very hard plastic, and Kevlar. Truly, it's a person's preference. I got V-Moda's for the durability, the way they sound, and the customization options.
Beats honestly do suck. I have tried them and i currently own the Monster Inspirations too and honestly to the normal everyday person the beats might sound fine. But for people who spend their days listening to music and working with music, these small differences that you might not notice really make a difference to the experienced. I know for myself how some of these small differences annoy me. Also in my opinion if you can't even notice these things and it doesn't bother you, you shouldn't even be buying headphones these expensive which is why everyone has beats, because everyone else has them.
Also another key feature that makes the V Moda stand out is the quarter inch adapter. I'm not certain but i'm pretty sure the Beats don't have that. If you don't know, most high end music equipment use this kind of adapter so that tells you that these headphones were made to be used professionally. It's small differences like these that one will become accustomed to on their journey towards audio enlightenment.
Do you have a more recent comparison between the most recent models of the two? I am not sure when the current (May 2015 now) Beats Studio version came out and whether V Moda Crossfade M 100 is any different 1.5 years ago than they are now though.
lol beats aren't comparible to to othe headphones of the same price. Look at the Logitech UE 6000, i have them now, they were €200, but now they're only €100 here iin the Netherlands, they simply shit on Beats studio.
Ryan Rahman I have the UE 6000. Bought them new off Amazon, now, yesterday my hockey team had a bus trip for our game and my friend(most of the team actually) have the Beat Studios(most old ver. but 1 person had the new ones). I tried the old ones, the UE's are better, but have a bit more crackling and %90-100 volume. But,the new studios are better, well in these conditions. The new beats had slightly less crackling than the UE 6000's. But,they have a $200 price difference so I guess the UE's are a better buy!
I'm trying to decide between the v-moda m100s, bose quietcomfort 15 and sennheiser momentum over ear. Typically I play music that could be classified as EDM, in particular techno. Additionally I want something that I can use traveling on the bus and train, as well as home use. Just wondering if anyone has any specific recommendations.
I bought the new beats studio in red, and they suck ass. The bass is horrible, and the sound quality is worth no more than $40... I'm so disappointed, Definitely returning them soon. Prob gonna buy the ATH M50's
I can do nothing but recommend the M50's, they make everything sound great. They even take Black Sabbath's flat production and give it a healthy kick haha.
FWIW, my wife tends to be the embodiment of the saying, "This is why we can't have nice things." Her crossfades have lasted over five years with minimal wear and tear on the headband. They still sound great and seal nicely.
Christopher De Freitas I got em for $300 when they first released. Build quality is above any headphone I've handled. I've fallen off my bike with these, flung them across my room, dropped countless times, I beat the shit out of these and they keep up. Even if they break I still have a year of warranty left PLUS after the two year warranty is up V-moda will let me purchase a replacement pair for half the current retail price FOR LIFE.
Christopher De Freitas Check out on ear M80s is you want less bass and more clarity. And keep in mind V-modas are best for modern music and are not the best sound in class. Best overall build quility/sound/style in my book.
Thank you so much for the video dude, I have been inclined towards V-Moda, but wasn't sure if Ithe beats is better as I already own beats executive and I live it, the new one lacks the strength and durability. Now I am definitely buying the V-Moda for sure. Thank you once again and awesome job in posting the videos, especially the GF test
You should try the M-100's out with the new XL Pads. Not only are they the most comfortable headphones I've ever put on my head, they sound a lot more balanced. The reason being so is because the space between your ears and the speaker grill has increased causing the bass to reduce in presence, bringing out the midrange and treble and creating a rather neutral sounding headphone with exceptional detail retrieval and a soundstage that annihilates the M-50's or any portable headphone I've heard.
i have a question. i owned the beats studio and now own a v moda m100 wireless. i heard the beats studio has an builtin amp and the v modas dont. i listened to the modas and in my oppinion the beats studio have a lot more punchie bass and go alot louder and so on. i was wondering if you used an amp with the m100s since you say they have a more punchie bass and better sound quality.. greetz.
I’m a bigFan of SENNHEISER Headphones for very long time and the Sounds Quality is Far Beyond.. Heavy Bass Punching and Crystal Clear Quality of sounds, Perfectly design for All types of Music, Car music, DeepHouse music, Gangsta Rap music, Hip-hop music, Party music, Metal Rock music, Country and BLUES music SENNHEISER is The Best.. This Time i wanna try V-Moda Headphones it looks pretty i love The design perhaps the Sounds Qulaity is Good as well.. i’ve had Bose, Shure, Dr. Dre Beats, B&O Headphones All of theme are my Collections..
You can costomize them, you can design the ear cups and made the design 3d, you can even have real platinum or gold as the ear design, trust me, the design is definitely better then any other pair of headphones
Because people have different standards for one nd two im not a audiophile i just want headphones nd since i have money for beats i get them simple as that. Nd if u think v modas are better looking than beats, i would hate to see ur taste in women
As someone who experiments with sound quality for a living, the V Modas do sound quite clear and crisp compared to the beats. Also, although bass isn't everything, I do enjoy it more with the V modas. Pros vsCons, its clear that the V modas are a bit more enjoyable than the 2013 beats studios.
at least its better than Beats Pro or Studio.they're not Pro when $100 headphones are better and definitely not worth the Studio cause actual Sudio headphones with half price are also better
***** I agree that beats are not even close to the best but they are very stylish and do provide pretty good sound quality and have good base for people who like bass
Thank you, you have answered this for me. The majority of Beats owners come from cheap earbuds and therefore have a blurred perspective on high quality sound. Put a pair of REAL quality headphones on their heads and they will stop using Beats. I've done this to friends and a few strangers a bunch of times and converted them away from Beats by simply shutting up and putting my M-100's on their heads and hitting play. Words don't work, but the sound of the M-100's do.
I love my wired vmodas. I play bass and they can hook up directly to my instrument so I don't shake my apartment with my amp. I did need to buy more adapters, though. The sound quality is crisper than my amp ever could be and is perfect for late night jamming.
The V-Modas are gonna destroy the Beats Studio no matter what.
[S]unjay Even 10 Dollar headphones are better 🤓
Still unsure? Put it like this. Would you rather pay $300 for a name or $300 for quality?
For a name, so what? I can afford it. Prove me I'm wrong and that I should buy another thing
*****
When I look for for a computer or cellphone I dont look for Ferrari, Armani. If you want a good watch, then look for a company that is specialized in watches, same with headphones, I preffer my AKG, Senheisser, audiotechnica, sony(the old ugly ones)
Imagine a doctor using xray machine that says Victoria secret and and laser scalpel by Dr DRE....
Yes just yes
+Du Toit lol are people really still buying beats
The v moda are headphones beats are toys
+1
I'm wearing mine now. I LOVE them. But they're not perfect. Here's my thoughts,
Sound: 10/10
Style: 9/10
Durability: 10/10
Comfort: 3/10
Portability: 10/10
The things feel like a vice on my head. The top of my ear gets jammed into the top of the ear cup. BUT, the XL memory cushions fix all comfort problems. Overall, insanely good headphones if you buy the XL pads with them.
Lord DGP I agree
2edgy4me
lmao beats are toys
V MODA M100 is a better buy. I have both of these headphones, including the beats pros. The V modas are my go to headphones out of the three. So that says a lot. I'm actually going to sell my Pros, it was a waste of money. However the studio's 2013 are good headphones, but definitely not worth the price. Don't fall under the beats spell like I did. I regret spending money on my beats
No contest in sound quality m100s win
+Mingue Kwak idk too...maybe hes sponsored...xD
+KillerDolphin 7369 I said sound quality not the amount of bass for me sound quality is more important by far
+Virginia Powell Now as low as $204
+nageorgiou2 $149 on best buy
Fidji Merveille Link?
I have been a DJ for 15 years and I've used about 10 different high quality headphone brands over the years. I own the V-Moda M-100's, Crossfade LP's, and their earbuds the ZN's. They are all amazing and blow away anything you can find in a retail store such as Beats, Bose, JBL, Sony Etc. You won't go wrong with any V-Moda product.
I've had experience will every single headphone V-Moda has to offer from the Crossfade LP to the Crossfade Wireless but I never ventured into their earbuds. How are the ZN's?
ikr
I was reading several amazon reviews on the V Moda- M 100 and a lot of people were saying how the hinges on their headphones kept breaking and it had me wondering about the build quality. I don't want to drop a lot of money on some headphones that are going to break easily.
Andy the Cat I own m100s I'm 6'3 250 pounds
3 days ago I stepped on the hinge
It's intact
But it's more like hit or miss
It's like luck
Andy the Cat Such issues are usually in small numbers and the fact that V-Moda offers a 2 year warranty on the M-100s as well as free out of warranty mechanical repairs makes getting them fixed a bit easier. That being said, while yes V-Moda headphones have had issues before, that doesn't mean that they're complete shit and various factors always go into this. Every single pair of V-Moda cans I've had never had issues beyond the usual wear and tear that comes with using a device everyday.
this is like comparing a matchbox car to a ferrari...
the v modas are the Ferrari right?
241lithium v modas are cheap as f*K
241lithium yes. the vmodas the ferrari. i was comparing the beats to a matchbox car because they're built like a toy.
Game Collector
compared to what? the beats? hell no... the beats are 100% toy plastic that'll break in no time, and sound like dollar store headphones. the modas actually have a sound stage and the bass is refined and deep. plus its 70% metal and will never break on you.
ive worked with beats for 5 years and they are fine
there no comparison, vmoda shat on the beats
I'd troll the fuck out of people with the M-100's and get the beats logo on the ear cups. 😂😂
+KillerKing Except you cant cause of copy right reasons im sure if you modify it you could lol
get the beqts logo but have a line go across the b
+Raiden ZxO I believe I did see a design like that on google lol.
+Alexandre Cox they are called anti beats.
Call em Feets!
This was great informative objective comparison. Thank you so much .V-Moda here we come.
Beats are indeed good headphones, but they are NOT worth the high price, maybe a 50-75$ drop and they would compete, but as for now, VMODA all the way
I'd go so far to say 150-200 for the studios. That said I returned mine for some Hifiman he400s.
I actually wouldn't pay a dime or use studios if I got em for a christmas gift. What kind of retarded headphones used for music require batteries?
Oscar Wiley 2013 studios, not the original ones that are pieces of junk. Also batteries are generally required for active noise canceling. You're entitled to your opinion though...
Calen Ward but at the same time the noise cancelling isn't all that great, they just kinda apm the bass up with that one. The newer studios are good but they have issues like charging it too long, a huge stepdown from the pros which sound great but of course they are 100$ more. Also some buzzing sound when nothing is playing but that might just be me
without battery it's not working -=- wtf headphone can't go any where
I've both these cans and this review is very accurate comparison.
Even before watching the video, seing the number of likes/dislikes I knew V-Moda won
Can’t believe I’ve been subscribed for this long wtf, seems like one day I randomly passed by these videos and got hooked.
Talking just one minute about the sound quality of a headphone is the worst way to review it
The good thing about UrAvgConsumer's reviews is that they cover a lot of the practical aspects of the gear, not just the sound.
1 word.... OVERFUCKINGPRICED.
+KillerDolphin 7369 you're an idiot.
Durability is what makes the Beats a horrible value, that is why the V Modas destroy the Beats.
watch?v=6tL-xuefFqs
New Beats Studio stress test. This comment is now invalid.
Kuroko Testuya Over priced = sucks
not really.....so compared to 5$ walmart headphones its better than audio technica ath m50's because its cheaper?
I'll take any set of headphones except beats. I wouldn't take beats even if it was my birthday present.
Elmexicanosabroso that’s just rude bro
Great review. The M100 you can get XL pads that provide more comfort. Besides the custom side plates on the M100, the basic color options are what you have plus the matte black and pearl white.
The V-moda Crossfade M-100 is in a completely different league than the Beats. Beats are overpriced garbage. They break, they sound like crap. No contest here. I've heard both and I bought the M-100.
all headphones are breakable tho....all headphones really suck if u think about it..... all headphones are overpriced...just saying
+Khalil Pernell guess who owns beats!!!!
I own both.
You sold me. Thanks for the thorough and informative review.
You help me with my session. I used to be struggled, but now I know what to buy thanks man. :)
I can bet my last dollar all of you guys who states "beats suck" never listened to them. Just want to jump on the hate bandwagon.Just like Justin bieber.
they don't suck its just that V-moda M100 are better
Beats do not suck, they are just over priced.
ya
Kuroko Tetsuya Being overpriced does mean that they suck. If you bought some headphone with the worst sound quality, durability, and comfort in the world, would you say they're overpriced because they cost more than one cent, or would you say that they just genuinely sucked?
i'd honestly say both :p
I have Vmoda and they last forever never had a headset this durable highly recommend. They sound great and save you money in the long run you won't replace them for years.
The mere fact that the M-100's will last as long as their condition permits compared to the Studio 2.0 and its wireless counterpart being completely useless once the integrated battery dies makes the M-100 a winner by default. As much as I like the fun factor that the Studio 2.0 offers, what's not fun are artificially altered highs that get grating at certain levels and a device that need a battery just to function.
Hey I was listening to this with my custom M100s. Love these headphones and wouldn't trade em for anything else.
If I'm going to drop 300 hard earn bucks, I want that shit to last!
Thanks Kareem Emad, I've been looking for a comparison of both but I think your response was enough
Andy the Cat Yeah, so far they are strong. I've had them for a good while with no issues
Do you even know what a DJ is?
Yes i do i have been Djing over 15 years
Eric L Then you should know they were designed by audiophiles. Not DJs.
Vale Music The M100s where designed for djs by djs look it up and get your facts right and troll on …
Vale Music As a DJ and producer, heading a headphone company just sounded like a natural career path for Val Kolton. Here, the audiophile shares his vision and steps to success. - See more at: v-moda.com/profile-interview#sthash.hbBhmCHf.dpuf
just bought : V-Moda Crossfade M-100 Shadow
How are they? Are the hinges on them, poorly built?
Andy the Cat ehm, i bought them but they never came i got my money back
Dylan Apeldoorn
Really! That's horrible, sorry you went through that!
Andy the Cat its okay XD
Thank You! You helped me make my decision!!
the V-Moda sound waaaayy better
Yannik Haug they don't look better (design)
That's like saying I bought a coat for the sound it makes
I would rather walk around with V-Modas than with Beats because Beats are like "look i spent 300 bucks on crap"
samurai sheep yes, because I'll waste 300$ in some beats which are overpriced and sound like shit instead of buying the m100's which is one of the best headphones out there in the sound quality department.
Awesome review as always I have the vmoda lp the older pair and they still sound great they sound even better after a few hours of listening they have a burn in time
Active Noise Canceling: Covering noise with more noise. ^_^
Just ordered mine :)
I have the V moda and i won't change it for anything in the world! Buy beats if you are in it for the fashion, but when i see someone with V moda i know that guy is interested in a QUALITY sound.
lol i was watching this in the vmoda m100
same
*hearing
same lol
Tom Dy LP1 here
same here
dont forget you can store your 1/4 jack and sd/ thumb in the case too!
My Beats snapped this morning as I was putting them on, they too flimsy and weak. I got to work, Googled some shit and boom, V-Moda LP in the mail
Vmoda compared to your sheath beats, which 1 is better
rockguy132 Vmoda Crossfade M-100 currently doing the job better than my beats Did. More compact, durable & sound quality is great. One thing I don't like, just a little nicety, the speakeasy mic cable that comes with it does not have volume control Where as the beats cable did. Other than that, Happy customer 😁
Well at least you can use the beats cable for the 3 buttons.
That's exactly what I did
nice in depth review. love it. perfect for those in a predicament for what to get. and love the facial hair haha inspirational
Just got something to tell you all
I got beats. I got vmodas
As i got the vmodas i selled my beats
V MODA FOR EVER !
sold*
+ismablanco96 NICEEE!
I just sent out an order for M100s :D
Hoping they're a little more fun sounding than HD25s, been on them way too much because they've been within arms reach xD
I own a pair of vmoda headphone and ill tell you all, I love them... I was never a fan of beats, they just cost so much because of the fact its dr.dre... if you want headphone with awesome soumd quality always go with vmoda
Who hasn't loved V-Moda?
TheGamercore47
no one can answer u "YES,me"
I apologize for not reading through all the 2k comments (kudos to you!!), re: comfort - have you tried the memory-foam earcups on the v-100? I’ve seen that they vastly improve the overall comfort...
Does the m100 have better bass than the beats studio?
Beats have nice bass, but it's overpowering. V-Moda has a more clear bass, which is good. It has this airy sound to it, which I love, but some people don't.
Hobotron Beats studios have absolutely NO bass. I just got some a week ago. I have found that these Studios are actually excellent to watch movies and watch youtube videos, but it is very poor for actual music. I listen to music from country all the way to rap, and even hard rock.
I've had beats before and the bass is good but the sound is what you get from some 5$ headphones
First off, over ear headphones don't have near as much bass as on ear.
I wonder if people will get angry because of this.
where did you get them so cheap
Lamunub45 I won them in a bid on eBay but if you don't want to bid they average around $120 used and $150 new
fs88allday cool, thanks
The only reason people buy beats are for the looks. And none of the actually know real quality audio. They might call themselves musicians or what else, but in reality, they know none.
Anyone else find the screensaver strangely distracting?
The V-Moda is definitely better than the Beats Studio... my M100 is 1 1/2 year old and I'am still impress with its sound quality... A head turner too, because of its awesome design... thanks for the review Bro...
Hired by Beats?
Proudly listening on my VModa cross fades!
$12 earpiece would work or all casual listeners really...
I thought the title was pretty funny
Hey there! Recently i had been watching on your videos and i feel that its really awesome! But do you have anything to do with the Bowers and Wilkins P7?
Beats me.
that was a good one
Key word: You THINK. You dunce
+mage7206 your comment is irrelevant.
Odell Beckham Jr's Hair please explain. Because you are calling someone a dunce for something that makes perfect sense. With it being an opinion saying "I think" in that case works, and doesn't mean it isn't a proven fact.
+mage7206 there's no use of you writing these irrelevant essays.......
Look at far you've come!
Damn, love your videos! Really looking for m100
Those V Modas look pretty uncomfortable imo....
I wear glasses and I haven't had any problems with them, I have worn them up to 6 hours straight
They are. My ears get absolutely murdered when I have mine on. But the XL memory cushions fix all comfort problems.
Uravgconsumer, can you rank them from best to worst with no regard of price? Audio Technica athm50, v moda m100 , new beats studio, Bose qc 15 or Bose qc 20 i? Thx
From best to worst. V-Moda M-100 > ATH-M50 > Bose QC20 > Beats 2013 = Bose QC15.
the things that these beats haters are saying in the comments are GOLD
Foreal
+Terrance Young they are gold because what they say is true.
Asher woodman not everything
Guys, you can't tell each other what they can or can't buy; unless, they ask you.
Bowchicka bowow The ones in this video....
UE6000 are close to the new Studios but obviously better value.
Do you own beats? How do you know?
I'm trying to decide between the v-moda m100s, bose quietcomfort 15 and sennheiser momentum over ear. Typically I play music that could be classified as EDM, in particular techno. Additionally I want something that I can use traveling on the bus and train, as well as home use. Just wondering if anyone has any specific recommendations.
Bose qc 15
I bought the new beats studio in red, and they suck ass. The bass is horrible, and the sound quality is worth no more than $40... I'm so disappointed, Definitely returning them soon. Prob gonna buy the ATH M50's
also consider ath pro500mk2 (~$100) or ath pro700mk2 (~$150) both have removable cables
I can do nothing but recommend the M50's, they make everything sound great. They even take Black Sabbath's flat production and give it a healthy kick haha.
michael carrigan
oh of course the m50 are definitely better but the long coil/straight cable is a little too long for portable use.
I was just telling him the m50's are good lol plus you can always get a wire tie for the cable
FWIW, my wife tends to be the embodiment of the saying, "This is why we can't have nice things." Her crossfades have lasted over five years with minimal wear and tear on the headband. They still sound great and seal nicely.
he forgot to say that the beats is RECHARBLE, not batteries
Recharble huh?
Good thing I never have to worry about charging the M100s or worry about being overcharged for Beats.
Jonny D. Schiller Hahahaha, how much you get em for? And is the build quality good?
Jonny D. Schiller Holy shit, I wouldn't trust you with a kid.........
So ... Which one are the really better still deciding I'm not sure which one I should buy but I really like the m100 please help
people buy beats because they look good, they look GAY. and the sound is even gayer
that only shows that you are a beats fanboy
I think beats are shit, but I'mEnergyEclipse is right, you know.
I don't understand why people think beats look good. That disgusting gloss on the plastic just makes it look like a cheap toy, what a joke..
Keith Scull Yeah they are cheap as hell.
the manufacturing price is 100 dollars for most of them
You're my favorite tech youtuber :)
Beats are terrible...
Got a pair of m100s for $149.99 last weekend, absolute steal for the build quality is miles ahead of the beats in every aspect.
everone that says the beats sound quality suck are not true i owned beats for a long time and its awesome
Do you use a headphone amp? If you do, you're in for a rough time wi the Beats Headphones
They suck, and i have owned them. You are just in denial over your shitty purchase, or have never listened to REAL headphones.
Well, there you have it folks! Everyone is wrong because FunnyMau5 owned them.
Hmm, why is it that I am not surprised that you owned them?
and then you woke up
Thank you so much for the video dude, I have been inclined towards V-Moda, but wasn't sure if Ithe beats is better as I already own beats executive and I live it, the new one lacks the strength and durability. Now I am definitely buying the V-Moda for sure. Thank you once again and awesome job in posting the videos, especially the GF test
To be honest with u guys in style .. Beats kill the v moda's
And the name V-moda m100 is a little to much robotish name
Haha. Funny joke bro
Love your vids ellaskins, taught me a lot :)
95% blah blah blah and 5% of sound quality, just to say V-Moda is better. Bah.
THOSE FISH ARE FAKE
i have a question. i owned the beats studio and now own a v moda m100 wireless. i heard the beats studio has an builtin amp and the v modas dont.
i listened to the modas and in my oppinion the beats studio have a lot more punchie bass and go alot louder and so on.
i was wondering if you used an amp with the m100s since you say they have a more punchie bass and better sound quality.. greetz.
Discount MKBHD
Abubakar Bashir omg lol
The moda's look disgusting! I'm sorry but I had to throw that out there
You can costomize them, you can design the ear cups and made the design 3d, you can even have real platinum or gold as the ear design, trust me, the design is definitely better then any other pair of headphones
Cuztomize it they look sick
+seven2 infinity why customize the look of them when its gonna be on your head half the time anyways? they still ugly
+Khalil Montana why for the visual appeal. They're sexy regardless beats are cheap and ugly as hell
Dude why in the world would anyone name their headphones V MODA M100 sounds like the title for a star trek movie
at least its better than Beats Pro or Studio.they're not Pro when $100 headphones are better and definitely not worth the Studio cause actual Sudio headphones with half price are also better
Made1nGreece but I would rather have Beats studio than some ugly ear muffs
Made1nGreece Beats are for Listening to the Music the way the artist intended not to be the best or anything beats has never said they are the best
Parker Games That's exactly what Beats are terrible for. The V-Modas produce clearer and better sound without overblowing the bass like the Beats do.
***** I agree that beats are not even close to the best but they are very stylish and do provide pretty good sound quality and have good base for people who like bass
Got me convinced. Good comparison.
great review. And I love how M100 sounds, it is just fantastic.
Another cool review dude.
Hey had a quick question do the v moda m100 ear cups are bigger or smaller than the beats cups....I'm up in the air in purchasing the v moda m100
