- The Patek Philippe Nautilus and Audemars Piguet Royal Oak are impossible to buy. This alternative from IWC isn’t-but it won’t be cheap for long!

My dad left me a ingenieur chronograph which is nowhere near the size of the one in this video and it's absolutely lovely to wear. IWC also doesn't have the same brand recognition as others and so it's nice to wear a watch without people staring at your wrist. Good to know that I should probably keep it
Agree. It’s a beautiful thing to wear. Very smooth and comfortable
Think your referring to the IW372501 has to be one of the most underrated watches ever! It’s a beautiful watch and for the price a steal.
The IWC Ingenieur has always looked to me like a watch with the bezel removed.
For the life of me I can't figure out why IWC discontinued this design of Ingenieur. The new Ingenieur looks utterly nondescript. Bring the old one back, IWC. It will sell out, I promise.
Just make it smaller
The new 1 looks like a joke! I was so disappointed, how they called it an ingenuer is beyond me.
@@NowImUnderControl If you mean the old Ingenieur, it had both 45 and 40 mm sizes, I believe.
I've heard people at IWC say a new Ingenieur is coming within 12 months, and will essentially go back to the old design. Let's wait and see!
@@stuart1815 If that happens and they offer it in a reasonable size (41mm or smaller) I will be the first one to buy it!
I love the carefully chosen wording that describes very specific feelings or situations with perfect accuracy.
"When the doodoo hits the Dyson" is on a whole new level of litterature.
I really love the 3239 Ingenieur.... very thin too (10mm i believe), compared to this beast
I got into the ingies about 5 years ago. The prices, even for the last genta-styled watch, were very low. Retailers were selling at 2-thirds list price. Older models were about 2500. fave is the AMG titanium Chrono.
You made the same argument in a video released three years ago. Frankly, the whole integrated bracelet with octagonal dials is a bit boring (with a few notable exceptions, like the PRX and the Octo).. But this one was worth watching just for “when the doo doo hits the Dyson” alliterative metaphor.
It's all about the brand recognition, I happen to love the new Ingenieur, particularly the Titanium. Good luck IWC, you've got a BIG mountain to climb...
Really loving this brand. My main watch is the Mark XVI bought last week finally... it is a stunner without the hype and crazy prices...IWC is fantastic
Problem with IWC is they Just slap on sellitas inside most of their watches. Makes them no different from laco, stowa, etc
@@Mega-zi7ys they do more than that to the movements they use. They replace the entire drive train with their own pieces. Here's a little bit of info about what they did to the ETA's. I can only assume they're doing the same with Sellitas.
"Like the Ocean 2000, the GST Aquatimer movement was based on an ETA 2892 base. This time, the movement was IWC calibre 37524 and significantly enhanced by IWC. One magazine, WatchTime, reports that "IWCs changes to the base movement were such that you could almost describe it as a total revision... Nearly all critical components along the path from the escapement to the mainspring are removed from the movement and replaced with corresponding components from IWCs own manufacture." In 2003, the GST Aquatimers movement was redesignated as IWC calibre 30110, due to significant changes in finishing, including changing from gold plating to nickel plating as traditionally used in many of IWCs classic movements.
This page has a reply from IWC:
IWC buys at ETA no complete movements. The movements are only bought in its components, never assembled. In addition, only the best possible version is purchased - the so-called Chronometer version. Some components of the original ETA calibre's are immediately eliminated and are never used by IWC. They are replaced by usually more expensive and better ones.
The main parts IWC replaces are:
A. the mainspring
B. the barrel
C. the escape wheel
D. the pallet fork
E. the complete balance including the balance spring
The entire escapement is a good example. It is ordered separately with different, more exact technical IWC specifications and is only fitted into the calibre at the end of the assembly.
The only difference between the movement 37524 and the movement 30110 is, that the first one 37524 is gold plated and the second one 30110 is nickel plated." www.phfactor.net/swr/IWC-30110_1638613.html
@@ruggsterify i had no idea my mark 16 had all this done to it! It was last serviced 6 years ago and running 3 seconds per day slow... that's pretty good
But, but… the Aquatimer, the Portugieser, the da Vinci! So many truly inspired, truly useful and wearable watches from IWC! Value for money.
Got me a preowned 379201 about a year ago, Loving 🥰 IT!
I have a 44mm IWC 323402 on the factory integrated bracelet. I got it for a great price and I lave it
Ahead of the curve with reference to the IWC Ingenieur! Well done!
You’re talking about Gerald Genta and the IWC Ingenieur. To my understanding, that’s the IWC Ref. 1832. It was produced from 1976 to 1981 and had a great mechanical inhouse movement with a quartz like precision. However, only approx. 450 of these watches were built and sold. In other words, as good as this watch was, customers back then didn’t buy it. In 1982, it had a slight touch up, then with a drawing-paper- like dial pattern. And- it received an ETA movement. Later, there was a JLC movement and another modernization, still the watch never had the success that the AP had. Although it was the way much better one (waterresistance, accuracy, sturdiness).
Today, Ref. 1832 Ingenieur examples are offered for prices between US-$ 20 and 50 000,-.
Although I really like your channel, what I don’t understand are:
The only affordable watch? For these prices? And, not a single picture of that original Genta design watch? Only look-like watches although from IWC, but still far away from the original?
Why did you have to make this video, if you can’t even show the genuine watch?
I know, this channel belongs to the same group as IWC. And it was not possible to get an original Ingenieur from the 1970ies… . Man, so sorry… . This time no thumbs-up... .
Great. Thanks for giving away the hidden gem. The Mercedes AMG version is awesome.
The laureato doubled in price last year after some favourable social media coverage. Perhaps it will be the same for this. However I think it’s too big and industrial and lacks the same charm as some of the other watches you mentioned. Speaking of seventies inspired watches with integrated steel bracelets, the GO seventies panorama date is the one that’s under the radar. Exquisitely made, amazing design, a fraction of the price of a regal sycamore
Hey Watchfinder why don't you find me the titanium 50 fathoms you sold me rather than try to upsell me a watch I don't want?
Such a massive company but you can't get a 50 fathoms dive watch for me that I have paid you for?
Thanks for another traditional video of yours.
Just one comment. The repeated I s on the dial ( intentionally or otherwise) appear as the electrical symbol for a capacitor, that is used in circuits ( amongst other things) to “ block” AC electrical component
So I would not say it is without any logic and perhaps can also be assigned to the genius of Genta
Great comment. Wow you're right they are capacitors, great catch.
20 capacitors in series lol
Wow wow wow! I have one one the bracelet from mid 2000, small that time and based on 7750. It's timeless and refined timepiece with right character. Not showing off like his cousins )))
And now it isn't anymore.
You have 1 week. Good luck!
@@CWB342 *hastily googles how to make 7k in one week*
Still a good price, picked up the chronograph version and absolutely loving it!
“When the doodoo hits the Dyson” is now my new favourite expression… I’m stealing it
I don't know, something about the bezel, the dial pattern, crown guards and the red accents cheapens the look of this watch when comparing to the 222 & other genta-ish watches
IMHO the size and mass of the case looks too industrial and sluggish. The dial is beautiful but the amount of steel around the case is too much.
The IW372501 is the perfect balance for those looking for something smaller than this.
I once had the Big Ingenieur IW500501 with the 8-day movement. At that time, IWC was still building really high-quality watches, but today they only live by the name.
Yes... plus using sellitas movement inside most of their watches.
The 3227 is a much better deal with its 42mm dial and a cleaner design without crown guards.
Honestly surprised you picked the bulkiest of Ingenieurs for this one. The 323902 is a better pick for the true Jumbo SL/ gerald genta inspired design. That one is thin, 40 mm, and perfect in everyway. This one is a monster, way too bulky.
an IWC belongs in every collection
I keep looking at this exact watch I love it, tom cruise wears one in collateral.and yet probably won't be able to afford one now 😢
Another cracking video. You really are the greatest in the watch world. Thank you 🙏🏼
I own this watch but the bracelet model IW323604 - bought used two years ago. I got it for the reasons listed in the video (Genta heritage for a reasonable price). I love it - currently its my favorite watch.
IWC should bring back this design for the Ingenieur, instead of the current blah model
I could be wrong but the screws on the AP turn from the backside. In the construction world they are known as Chicago bolts. The hexagon end that doesn’t turn has a long female end the male with the threads tightened from the bottom side of the case. Just saying
Google Chicago bolt. Great video. Thanks
Watchfinder (part of Richemont Group) talking up the Ingenieur before IWC (also part of Richemont) released a new updated Ingenieur in 2023?
I have the 7 day power reserve and I absolutely love it, it’s my daily
This video inspired me and in short I ended up purchasing an iwc 322701 from Watchfinder. What a beautiful timepiece!
Very nice watch. Like all IWC its just dull, nothing about it inspires anything. Would lone one a steel bracelet.
Leaned in closer. Indeed, IWC has hit this out of the park.
It has some Citizen Super Tough Robert Swan vibes
I’m a Canadian subscriber, happy to be aboard. 👍🇨🇦. I like it. 🧐. BUT, on the link it shows “Ingenieur” anywhere between $3,700. up to $12,000+…….Where’s the “AFFORDABLE” come onto it??????
Genta definitely had the Royal Oak sitting in his pocket, well said. It is a one day design yet it must have been shaping up in his head for a while.
The sophistication of the IWC's hands and hour marlkings design are at another level if compared with the AP but the case design comes second when it should not. Details such as the dust collector holes have little functiom and the quite large width of the bezel seem to take over with boredom to the majesty and sleekness of the dial, which is appointed with the simplest yet bold details.
This is going to be a classic. You can just tell this is going to rocket in price.
100% right, and its not to many that has it. Just wait when people don't want to spend 25k for a watch this one is coming!!
It took me a long time to find my Salmon-dialed 3227-11 Ingy. With a proposed run of 200, and only 100 made this watch is probably the last one that will ever leave my collection.
"When the doo-doo hits the Dyson." Alright, you got me on that one.
IW3521 go sky rocket 🚀 , dangggg
IWC, hands down my favorite brand. I own two but this Ingenieur just doesn't do it for me. To each his own I suppose.
I was at an IWC boutique and they said IWC might release a new ingenieur collection in 2023. Hope it is true
Im only now realizing that the North Flag is a a response to this model, and actually manages to do it better
Good thing I was sitting down when I heard the dimensions! Great looking watch though…
I thought you were very entertaining last night on Nico’s livestream. Good to put a face to the name.
Thanks for the tip, I just bought one
How in the name of George Daniels did you manage to balance that brick on its rubber strap?
Nivada Grenchen is bringin back their F77! Its in prototype stage already =) check it out
How much magnetism can Faraday cage provide? Not more than 1500 ish.
Going online to buy one now
Just too big for most wrists mine included
Still waiting for your review of the Spitfire in Bronze…
Is it just me or is the lint collection inside all those I’s on the dial rivalling Cinderellas feather duster?!
Which one you guys prefer a Rolex or a grand Seiko ?
If both were at same price?!
man did this video age well
I would argue that the BVLGARI BVLGARI is the last "affordable" 70s watch designed by the great Genta, correct me if Im wrong but I think it's a watch that is cheaper to purchase (both new and used) than IWC's Ingenieur
I also thought it was really affordable and looked at price with more than what I expected it’s equal to the price of a new Rolex or grand Seiko with Spring drive
I guess Genta worked for Invicta?
‘Pole rooter” lmfao Genta really liked Polish women
When the doo doo hits the dyson 🤣🤣🤣
I bought the IWC Ingenieur 3521 - JLC Movement, Original genta design and in my case steel braselet and gold bezel. What's not to love about this?
the original Genta design is the 1832
It's a handsome watch, but the bezel is a bit too thick.
I’ll take the Black Bay Chrono, thank you very much!
A fake rolex, go for it
The 377201 is the one to keep an eye on. Very clean design without the crown guards and not as many made.
I've always loved this version of the Ingeneur. The newer models are nondescript, but this one has presence. The only thing I dislike is the size - 40-42mm and it'd be perfect, but I get that it's a product of the early 2000s when, apparently, bigger was better. Given the way the Royal Oak and Nautilus have skyrocketed, the Overseas is on its way, and that even the Laureato is selling like gangbusters, I reckon it's only a matter of time before IWC release an updated version of the Ingeneur more akin to Genta's original. Then it'll be yet another watch out of the price range of mere mortals.
Check out the IW4515-05. It's a rare 36mm and absolutely stunning...
@@stuart1815 oh, I will - thank you
This is far better looking than an Offshore and a well proportioned watch. I think IWC doesn't get the respect they deserve but now it's time for them and some other companies to take their place now that Rolex is losing the hype they didn't deserve.
Problem is what's inside that's why they're not respected. They use sellitas movement.
not any more its not thanks for killing it.
"to upset the entire industry... this is Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team " & "Oldest and most revered.... " is Scuderia Ferrari F1 team and I hate IWC for obvious reasons 😂 but still couldn't resist watching your video even giving it a like too 😂😂😂
Design peaked at the 3227's and then the bean counters got involved. Bean counters + arrogance = your brand suffers.
A teaser for a new Ingenieur?
So Gérald Genta was a punk of the watch industry. Designing what he wanted not what the people wanted.
Looks so much like a Casio MWA 100H.
Didn't Genta also design the Cartier Pasha? That's another one of his that hasn't attained mythological status.
Had no idea that her Royal Highness was a fan of the Sex Pistols .
Up until 2 hours ago it was affordable.
The watch is just too big and too thick. It would work mich better in a thinner case with 38mm
Chunky simple watch
Why? Because your overstocked on them?
Probably no longer in the affordable category now you've released this video 😂
I want to want this watch but it’s just a clock with a strap on it. Massive.
I love this watch, but it's too thick.
Avail in the 70s & still affordable you ask? Santos anyone
Fuck dude, now I have to get one...
I love IWC
The design is nice but the proportions are off
very nice
Want a Genta-designed, integrated bracelet luxury watch but can't get a Royal Oak or Nautilus? Let the InGENIEur grant your wish.
True enough, Shame it's such a spud🤣🤣🤣🥔
Not sure many people would call this “affordable”. Attainable maybe.
With 3rd party sellitas movement at that. Makes them no different from stowa,.laco etc
I think the "Mike mouse" was a FU to the watchmaker industry.
Not rolex
Too Heavy
…and I can live without it.
Greubel forsey man!!!!!
Iwc just hates the ingenieur. The New one is a joke
Great video. Love the quality of the dial close ups. The Ingenieur (and Portugueser) are my favourite IWC lines. My personal favourite - alternate - 70s heritage watch is the Piaget though. Great to get your opinion. ruclips.net/video/cmej0oAp24s/видео.html
IWC has a bad logo. And honestly a bad name. I feel like that will always hold them back.
