    Nets had the star power. The problem is they had nothing on the bench & lacked all around at the C position. They reminded me a little of the 2010-2011 Miami Heat where they had the Big 3, but was god awful basically everywhere else

    Should have kept Van Horn. Their problem was not having any scoring during their deep playoff runs before Vince got there. Van Horn was a very skilled and great scorer. Trading him for a 36 year old Dikembe was a dumb move.

    • @nbaaddictt
      @nbaaddictt 2 месяца назад +5

      i think they made that trade because they got manhandled by shaq the finals before. from what i remember mutumbo didnt play that much in the finals so it was kind of pointless

      Indeed man. Van horn could have spaced the floor

    • @henny6566

      @@nbaaddictt Exactly, Dikembe barely played because he was 36. Trading their 2nd coverall pick from 5 years ago for him made no sense. But yes, it was an impulse move because of what Shaq did to them a year earlier which also made no sense because Shaq man handled Dikembe also in 01 when they played the Sixers. So it would have made no differece.

    Jason Kidd went to the Nets and with his basketball IQ, defense and playmaking he helped them get to the NBA Finals twice and making them relevant and fun to see. If that to certain basketball fans doesn't prove that this man isn't at least a top 5 point guard of all time, while there's a strong case he deserved the regular season's MVP for the 2001-2002 season, then I don't know what else it needs to be said. I personally have him #3 on my all time point guards list.

    As a Serbian i have to say Nenad Krstić was very good for Nets. He improved every year until he got serious injury i think in 07 and he was never the same after it. And also thid shows you how much Marbury as great as he is he is not contributing to winning.

    The Nets didn't miss out on Kobe, in fact the head coach absolutely loved Kobe and wanted to draft him but Kobe agent stated that he wouldn't go anywhere but Lakers and if any other team drafted him then he would go play professionally in Italy.

    • @blacknetsmed
      @blacknetsmed 2 месяца назад

      That's a myth people make up to rationalize why Bryant was the 13th Pick while attempting to use revisionist history.

      @blacknetsmed seen an interview where John Calipari was asked if he regretted not taking Kobe and he stated he had Kobe in 3x workouts before the draft, loved him and wanted to take him but was told by Kobe's agent he wouldn't play anywhere but Lakers or he'll play pro over Italy. Kobe and Gary Payton where in this interview and GP tried jokingly to move onto another subject and Kobe didn't deny it. It's not the first time we've seen a player refuse to go to a team they're drafted by, Dominique refused to play in Utah so he was traded to Atlanta and Steve Francis refused to play in Canada then was traded to Houston. Kobe isn't stupid, he knows he'll win FA in New Jersey and Charlotte. He'd be in a far better situation in LA and he clearly made the right decision and I don't blame him.

    • @DanButton89
      @DanButton89 2 месяца назад

      @jaywarvz awww yeah, the greatest draft of all time, they had a lottery pick and used it on Kittles. 1996 draft so deep even an undrafted player ended up in the HOF! But Kobe was never an option for any team not named the Lakers. I'm sure he did consider Boston as they were another big market team but that might of just been a rumour

    • @blacknetsmed
      @blacknetsmed 2 месяца назад

      @@DanButton89 A lot of this is revisionist history based on what Kobe became not how he was viewed at the time. Almost all Mock Drafts had Kobe Bryant going somewhere between the 16th to 20th Pick in the '96 Draft.
      Kobe was not some highly sought after prospect. He was the first Guard in NBA History to even be drafted straight out of highschool, it was considered a high risk gamble.
      Kobe was pegged as "talented, but a 4-5 year project who physically undersized, with questionable ball handling and shooting to be considered an NBA Guard".
      Charlotte Hornets Head Scout at the time, Bill Branch has said that Bryant was never heading to Charlotte. In fact, he even went as far as to say that the ultimate trade was agreed to in principle before the draft, and Jerry West was actually the one who told Charlotte to make the pick.
      The Los Angeles Clippers loved Bryant in their workouts, and told him the Clippers as an organization "won't be taken seriously if they draft a highschool player".
      A 17 year old physically underweight highschool kid did NOT have the legitimate cache to dictate where he wanted to go, Jerry West wanted Kobe badly, but the rest of the teams saw Bryant as a very high risk/long-term reward prospect.

    That Nets team was never really good. At that time, being champion of the East didn't mean anything, there were about 4 or 5 teams in the West capable of beating any team in the East, like Dallas, Lakers, Spurs and the Sacramento Kings. The Nets won the East, but they weren't even close to winning the NBA title.
