Take young people, give them hope of great careers one day, slap on huge debt, have them graduate at minumum wage and have them enjoy struggling to pay off interest and dream to live in a home with a roof over their heads. It ain't pretty, it is stressful. Yes there are many that don't take it seriously but many now realize they can't "afford" fun and really do try to get somewhere in life without the burden of everything else crashing down.

Stress? Most of these students are in easy majors (non-STEM) and partying on the weekends. This expert is talking about resilience being tested for the first time in college. At that point its game over. Resilience is taught by good fathers who back off when the 18 month old is struggling to move around b/c they know this is the starting point for when someone has to navigate the world on their own. Society really went downhill once it became gynocentric and the shift was made to raising adult infants who can't handle easy coursework and weekend partying...

There's nothing wrong with leaving college. It's not meant for everybody, and nothing wrong with giving it a try.

Yeah teachers give waaaaay too much homework. Think the student is only taking their class, and a lot of it is online which is very draining. For a full time student it feels like an abused remote worker

I wonder how many would have dropped out of the Normandy invasion had they had the option?

Ha, in this gynocentric culture there's no way the males today would be able to storm a beach under heavy artillery fire from an elevated position. We've been raising complete wimps since fatherless homes became a staple...

These are all stressors that literally everyone had to face growing up. Gen Z also haven't yet faced a deep set recession or a major war as one of the combatants, so they haven't even dealt with the worst of generational struggles. Sure they went through the pandemic, but it was their parents who faced the brunt of it.
They are also trends that began (around 2015) before most Gen Z had even started uni. Jonathan Haidt and Vivek Murthy (the Surgeon General of the US) would maybe suggest social media's rewiring of the brain to be the likely culprit, even without a major physical change/disruption in circumstances.

I can't imagine wasting my hours with "college" in 202x. Even in the 90's, I found it to be a bloody waste. What prepares a human for the reality of existence is getting INVOLVED in it. Study on your own. Learn what you can via libraries, the internet, videos, tutorials, and MOST IMPORTANTLY: *experience*. Do stuff. Work hard. Listen to those with proven, verifiable experience. After that, it's all about LUCK any little else.

You comment shows that you lack understanding.
Most people go to college for connections. Most good entry level jobs don't exist anymore. They were converted into internships and companies hire from colleges. Or they meet peers who connect them with jobs later on. They keep a database of contacts and contact somebody from the old school to hook them up with jobs.
Many women go to college to meet potentially higher earning men. They marry these men, become stay at home moms, or work part time/lower level jbos while raising a family.
