    Great stuff. Ted made the right choice, if the shot isn't there don't take it. Even though watching Ted get pissed when he misses is great fun to watch. Your new gun setup looks nice Ted. I'm also using an optic sight this year because of one of those aggravating misses from last year. I can't wait to see you bust one of those tom's soon.

    Was calling a few years ago and a bird answered me from all the way across a lake and I am thinking forget that. In a few minutes, I hear wings. I look up and a jake is walking around looking for the "hen". Never under-estimate how far a turkey will come looking for love. Sometimes it takes hours or days, other times its over in minutes.

    Those longbeards were unsure. I'd say some soft calling with content purrs and clucks, scratching in the leaves may have convinced them everything was OK. Especially since it was thick stuff; they couldn't really see that far. Sounded like Ted was calling, but his calling sounded like Putts a few times which may have sent them on their way. Heard Aaron telling him to yelp a few times, good advice

    I’ve been lucky, only had to hunt public land the first season I ever went. Way back in’99, the pressure put on those birds made them almost unhuntable. Joined a deer hunting club in ‘00, stayed there for 10 years and had good luck for the first 8 of those years pretty much having the place to myself most of turkey season. Then turkey hunting exploded and it got stupid. Then about 7 years ago a friend of my wife’s mentioned that she saw turkeys all the time on her land and I was welcome to hunt it. Started looking at her property on the county’s GIS site and realized that she had a lot more land than I was expecting. Like 1400 acres, spread over several different farms. With plenty of birds. Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut, and I’ve got a bushy tail.

They hear every box,slate, and mouth call made where I hunt it’s unreal at the pressure that gets put on um, usually late season is good and the so called turkey hunters get wore out and hang it up but not me I lay in there with um PATIENCE is they key.

    • @jdheatmag
      @jdheatmag 2 года назад

      I stopped turkey hunting on public land here in SC for that reason. 10 hunters for every gobbler you hear. I've been lucky to get a few private spots to hunt now. The last time I went on public, I killed a bird we'd been on for literally 5 minutes. Just as I shot, a guy stood up out of the bushes about 75 yards to the left of the bird from us. We were 100 yds from my truck and he said he watched us pull up, call, and get set up. He never said a word and had been on the bird for 2.5 hours. We only stopped because there were no trucks within a mile on that stretch of road. That was the dealbreaker for me. No turkey is worth accidentally shooting someone over. On a lighter note, we gave the guy a ride to his truck after he calmed down. I let him sit on the tailgate next to the bird. Told him before we left him that if he'd have talked a little sweeter to that ole boy, he'd have been dead way before we got there lol.

I live and hunt in Florida so naturally our turkeys are ahead of schedule. It's March 27th, do y'all think my turkeys are henned up still?? I didn't hear one gobble all weekend even with plenty of other hunters in the woods. Appreciate anyone that replies 🤘🙏💪🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸. Also one more thing, sorry boys lol, what does it mean when a turkey "Putts"??? I assume it means walking slow or like walking back and forth?? Again appreciate any replies. • @brye0331
      @brye0331 2 года назад +2

      The putt is generally associated as an alarm and usually means the bird has seen or heard something and is signaling danger… As far as being henned up, just means they physically are with hens. However you can still coax a henned up gobbler away from hens. Mid morning or so hens will usually head to their nest site leaving toms and jakes alone looking for hens. Hope this helps.
