You can totally put the words on blank pages! I love the idea of a book with mini paintings kept in their original form with words on the opposite page to accompany them.
I'm not laughing at the fact that you're crying and upset in your video. However, I did laugh because this is me every day. "WHY DID I DO THIS? ITS SO HARD"... Love your channel and so impressed by your illustrations. So inspiring!
I so want this book when it's done. I'm preying it's printed in a large scale format so i can admire the beautiful artwork. I remember my preschool teacher used to have giant scale versions of children's books that the whole class could see the illustrations, they were so cool.
Idea: there is not wasting time to do your big illustrations. You can sell your originals watercolours illustrations when you will be launch the children book (at the same time) And recuperate the time (labour) that you expended painting the watercolours. 😊
I found the perfect (for me) fine line brush in an eyeliner I bought at the Dollar Store! I had bought some for a face painting gig and I am totally hooked on them. I add a longer handle, after I wash them thoroughly. Lovely, lovely brushes! lol
I’ve been waiting for this! I was about to go to bed cause it’s almost 12 am for me, but now I get to watch this! I hope you’re having a wonderful day and I love your art! ❤
This book is going to be so stunning! I can’t wait until the release. Your paintings are amazing! I am in the process of illustrating my own book too. It’s so much work! I have all of my thumb nails sketched , a layout with text & sketches , character development done for 7 characters and I’m now finalizing some facial expressions for each character. Then I will begin the actual illustrations. I love this idea of milanote- I can see how this would be such an amazing help!
I have been following along since page one and I’m so happy with your progress especially because some of the jobs are a little bit tedious. Don’t worry yourself as you are doing an amazing job can’t wait to see the next video :) ❤
I've also been struggling with illustration taking so long. And after two years I found a way to get way faster. You paint first two or three layers of all painting at the same time. Then, while you wait for one layer to dry, you paint another part of a page. So you don't wait at all, you paint all the time, but different parts. So you paint the girl and the star, one layer of a girl, while it's drying, you paint one layer of a star. While both of them are drying, you paint the background. Hope it helps🙏
Omg I like this!! Although my layers dry pretty fast and I’m painting the next thing while the dry, I think the biggest time consumer is all the details but I wouldn’t have it without them 😅❤
I love doing lighwashes first too! Or underpainting with the lightest washes but leaving negative spaces where I know I want highlights - or if I mess that up just go back in with white gouache later 😬😅
Your work is insanely beautiful. re: waves you could cut out a section on another sheet the exact same shape as the sea then paint that section with waves and when dry place it over the original section and compare the “with” waves and “without” waves (without destroying the original)
i've been having the worst day, but watching this video has really really helped. youre a very kind and talented person i love ur videos with all my heart!
Aahhh im so in love with this series, your videos are so inspiring for me to keep painting regardless of the procrastination lol, Thank you for being so real with your process and struggles with us
I looooove following this project🥺 can you maybe do a video on all the colours & paper you use? I always struggle with finding the right paper for watercolour... thank youuuu❤
WOW! I love this piece so much!! Watercolour is such a hard medium, and you do such a beautiful job of showing the richness and colour within the images. I have never seen the technique you use before, for laying detail first, almost like your drawing with the brush, and then doing a more transparent layer of it!! I'm amazed that doesn't smudge the detailed layer before, that is so cool. I really love your videos, and I am excited to follow along your journey for your beautiful children's book. I hope I can read this to my own children one day! Now I am intrigued to see Kanagroo Island, the rock formations there and the cliffs look striking!! As a film and documentary editor, I have a small tiny suggestion...it sounds like your audio clips quite a lot through the film, and I don't know if that is because you are talking too close to the mic perhaps, but you may be able to put an audio leveller onto your film and batch level the whole audio, in each clip...at least you can do that with Davinci. I hope that helps!!
Thank you soo much ❤ Kangaroo Island is truely a special place, lots of variation in landscapes which you’ll see coming up in the following pages 🫶 Yes someone else said too about the clips! Personally I don’t notice it that much, I think it’s because I talk to close to my small mic, but all my voiceovers over my painting are with a big professional mic plugged into my computer so they sound much better! I’ve started holding my little mic further away, so hoping that makes a difference 🙏
@@chantalleonhardt I would love to go there! I’m very intrigued by these beautiful paintings and the story! Can’t wait to see more of your great work! Love from Alaska ☀️
You have to put Writing and Illustrating in the video title to match the other two videos. It will help with the metadata and help you tube suggest it to previous viewers as a series. I'm rooting for you. Love watching your journey. It's really inspiring.
How long did this page three take you to complete? I can see why it’s your favorite! So beautiful and your tips about the mood board were great! I use Unsplash myself for other projects-but using for painting inspiration is such a good idea. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Hi Chantal. I love the unfolding book creation, I know you have said a few times that this is a 2 year project, but Im wondering if people can pre-order your creation ? I am interested if yes 😊
Hey!! I have a mailing list on my website www.chantalleonhardt.com/mailinglist. That you can sign up to and I’ll let you know when preoders go live and being part of my mailing list also allows you to be the first to buy it when it does 🥰
I feel like that you're making it hard on yourself with these illustrations, do them in small papers all the details will be gone once you resize them to their original a4/a5 size plus faster children book illustrations = more clients no-one is willing to wait a full year for their book to be illustrated you're so talented and your style is really nice, it's just adjusting it to be more commercial
ive done a test photograph and print and all the details show up!! one of the main reasons I'm painting so large is so when the print is resized to A4 the details are magnefied (more intense). I also very picky with my clients, so I'd rather focus all my attention in my book.. i know it will be worth it in the end!
i was going to say it was most likely you coming on your period, with you being so suddenly emotional for no reason lol. Unless the sheer size of your project is overwhelming you
The painting is very cut off there is a cluster of details in one place and straight up flat wash in one color in another, no flows. Broken perspective. I highly recommend to not work on big formats.
That’s the whole point of art, to expand what we currently know and get outside our comfort zone, to see what we are capable of! If I don’t start painting big now what could I missing out on painting in the future because I didn’t take the risk now!! Also this is an illustration, when resized the A4 the details appear very different and the perspective makes more sense with the words 😊
