great job on covering the tich story, and good on you for acknowledging the loneliness of the holidays and offering people a space on the discord. this channel is class.
I love your channel because of your presentation style and the common theme throughout of the joy that these players bring to these tiny communities. Even when a game is "trying to die" one can always find people like the legends in your videos. Cheers!
happy to see that someone that's pretty well known post about aberoth, I'm a part of the very small community that plays the game. I have played it for a few years, and it is a really fun game, which more people playing it it will make it a bit more fun. there is also a pvp mechanic.
please keep up the amazing work, i love watching these videos, and recently my daughter started watching with me, asking about some of the games, some i know others i dont but at least my daughter is taking an interest in them, and that makes me happy thank you rye
My big thing with first person shooter multiplayer games based around WW2 is what’s the point? It’s like trying to reinvent the wheel at this point it’s been done to death. There are seemingly endless WWI and WWII first person shooter games out there.
It probably has to do with how iconic, well known, and well documented they are. If you think of war, chances are you will think of one of them. The only other war that is close to being as well known is the Vietnam war I think.
Been watching you for over a year and a half now. I gotta say your content is always top notch. I genuinely get excited to watch a Rye video cheers man
I’ve been playing Aberoth for years and even created content about it on RUclips. Back then, I was a major source for Aberoth videos, but I stopped due to general boredom and the lack of frequent updates. It feels like the game has been "trying to die" for as long as I’ve been playing. The player count has always been low, and it’s mostly players who have been around since the game’s release who keep it alive. The developer, while active and communicating with the community via emails, seems unwilling to release any significant updates. I just don’t understand why he doesn’t take action to improve or update the game. Another major downside, as with most PvP-based MMOs, is the community’s high level of toxicity. This has always been a frustrating issue. I never expected Aberoth to be mentioned in one of your videos. Thank you for sharing this game despite its challenges! 0:33
tich’s story was the first story youve ever given for these types of games that genuinely made me emotional. to know a game community and be so close knitted and take such an impact from the loss of one of their players is nothing short of beautiful. rip tich, i hope chris’ family is doing okay ❤
If you ever make a second video, Red Eclipse is a must. Peaked at ~100 players a month after release then quickly falling to 10 only rising 4 years later after a situation where a crypto scam stole the game where the devs, after being notified by the youtuber Jauwn, released an update that basically bricked any unauthorized fork. That resulted in a 40 player spike and 20 player average. While I haven't played against actual players, I can testify that it's a decent movement shooter with the only downside being the very dark color scheme.
Reminds me alot of touring around Second Life's many sims (basically continents) and checking out all the things people have made over the years that are still around. Same with VRChat's worlds - just popping into a random one privately and just wandering around; especially the older ones. Some real love and effort is on display, but at the same time it's almost kinda eerie; especially the SL builds. "Mainland" sims have tons of very, very old architecture. At one point though I found this amazing little "bus" service. You sit on a hovering vehicle and it takes you on a tour of all sorts of different places within the mainland sims while following a road that connects to them all. Was awesome.
Great vid! If you ever plan on doing a sequel, I’d highly recommend checking out Absolver. It’s an online fighting game made by the SIFU devs with an awesome stance-based martial arts system that I’m still sad didn’t seem to get much attention.
Might be slightly different but the BYOND engine is a great abandoned ware, it hosted many player made games and had thousands of players across different genres and games...might be hard to visit since it was very community oriented
I actually spent a good few weeks playing Wurm back in 2013 or so. I remember watching someone build roads through one of the original maps. I dont remember if it was tich, but everyone who played that game back then, bless you. Every single person I interacted with was amazing. Taught me how to make houses. Plant plants. work stone, Even built my own road somewhere. Though tiny. I wish I got more of my friends to play with me. I would have loved more memories in that game. I think im going to log in and see if I cant find my old builds maybe. and see if I cant build something new. I made a friend about a year after playing that game, and his mother played it daily. She was disabled and couldnt leave the house so games like that where the only thing keeping her occupied. She even used multiple accounts so she could mine faster since it literally took hours to find iron lol.
these videos have become some of my favorites. the time you put into learning these games with, sometimes an almost non-existent playerbase, is amazing. shining light on these little corners of the internet that rarely see light anymore. absolute legend o7
I have hundreds of hours in wurm. I didn't know the tich story. Never explored the same lands. Found a deed that had been rotting called amaranthine. Saved a wagon before it got the eternal boot. Made great friends with the neighbour. Colorful chaos on the map. The whole corridor of the port crescendo area is amazing (cadence)
There is something special about these kind of videos, as they show how special a game can be with the right kind of community. Time and time again, I've seen a few games that had died off or were in the process of dying, and they made me reflect on all the time I spent playing active games where I never really got to know anyone, let alone even talk to them, yet in these old and forgotten games, I've had the chance to actually get to know people and form good relationships. In the end, I feel like if more people took the time to explore these games, they might also find a few diamonds in the rough, and many friends along the way.
Wish a video on Asheron's Call was done. its still sooo good and many people forget about it. yes retail servers shut down. but a complete Emulation community is available with private servers.
Aberoth is an amazing game, but the community is extremely hit or miss. Finding your way to the yellow server was the best possible outcome. (I have 1000s of hours in aberoth)
My deepest respect to the amount of time and effort you put into these videos. You often squeeze out a few man tears, with the amount of respect and wholeheartedness you give these small dedicated communities. And the way to pay your respects to fallen players, who are no longer with us. You are a good man, don't let anyone tell you differently. RUclips is filled to the brim with garbage channels that just slap crap together and call it a video, and they usually start the videos by demanding likes and subs, before we even see what the content is about. Which makes people like me, leave and forget the channels ever existed. So, I highly appreciate you and your videos, there for, i also watch your ads and sponsors and every sec of them. Keep going brother, you're on the right path, you sir, are an absolute legend, yourself.
Merry Christmas friend and congratulations on the sponsor. Watching your channel has got me back in touch with my love of video games and I look forward to every upload and was excited to see this one. I hope that you have a great start to the new year and all your friends and family are safe and you have a great year. Don't stop creating this great content that reignites my passion for gaming and reminds me that not every experience is going to be like the next.
Not sure if this would make interesting content, but I used to play a game called Infantry, or Infantry Online. It was a fun isometric MMO shooter and sunk countless hours playing, but still sucked at. Played it until Sony's gryuubby little paws slapped a subscription on it and killed the game in one fell swoop. It's revived as FreeInfantry now I found out, but doesn't look like it has much of a playerbase these days. Still remember the good old days, though.
Oh hey thats my video 0:46 If Aberoth can be cleared of toxic community, I think it is by far the best 2D based mmorpg open to development. The game's community was so terrible that I left the game in a move that would ruin my own reputation in order not to return. The producer of the game definitely does not care about the game, but because of this video, a spark could start a huge forest fire. Thanks for the making video about Aberoth.
@ThRich_0 It's a bit ridiculous and surprising that a person whose reputation in the game is a liar is trying to portray me as the main reason for this community, If you don't understand, lemme explain what i meant by saying toxic community just with one example. Underage age group goes so far as to make pedophilia jokes among themselves and this is the one of the main reason that made me quit the game.
Happy holiday & Merry early Christmas. Huge thanks to everyone that helped with the video. :)

I love the fact you go through all these old or low-played games. Hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas.
Rye about to pay Concord😂
Well that wouldn't be anywhere close to being considered a "best of" forgotten game, that dogpile deserves to be forgotten.

I hate that you're right. I'm a fan of WW2 games but there are more eras that could use the love, like the Korean War.
It probably has to do with how iconic, well known, and well documented they are. If you think of war, chances are you will think of one of them. The only other war that is close to being as well known is the Vietnam war I think.

you could try Renegade X, woild make a lot of C&C fans happy, could even give you some history about it as a longtime player
I've discovered you this year and have been watching all your videos even older ones. You are super underrated!
