  • Today Rye games dives into some of the greatest or best dead games we could find... Most of these, have been suggested a lot of times, and the video includes some classic games from over 10 years ago which all still have small communities today. Today's video includes mostly FPS games, open world games, with elements of survival games included. If there's another dead game you want to see me play, suggest it in my discord or twitter dms!

I love Easy Red 2!!! I mostly make maps and missions in the game and I'd argue its half the fun of owning the game. This game's real potential is being an offline sandbox. Online play is a bonus and only takes one or two guys to have fun. Most map/mission makers are able to utilize the tools really well and hide some of the AI's flaws. Overall, it's basically a jank Arma 3 that runs surprisingly well and under the right circumstances is extremely immersive. Great vid Rye!

  • @JackRalph96
    @JackRalph96 6 месяцев назад +52

Easy Red 2 is mainly a single player game. as the multiplayer servers are all P2P with no dedicated hosting so it entirely depends on if players are hosting to see a server. it is far from dead especially with all the amazing workshop content and excellent dev marco. also you were playing workshop content not dev made maps in this video. that's why there was so many bugs.

  • @KoreaEnjoyer

Verdun, Tannenberg and Isonzo are three very different games. The gunplay and such is similar but the maps are very different as they are meant to represent different styles of warfare during WWI. Verdun was really popular for a long time as it was the first but when the devs announced the sequel Tannenberg, it split the fanbase as it was a standalone game. It had some gameplay improvements but it was pretty similar so maybe it should've been DLC. Ever since Tannenberg released the games playerbase dwindled as it basically got split. I'd say Isonzo is different enough in some ways to warrant a wholely separate game but in others... not so much.
I know the devs love the games though. I did beta testing on Tannenberg and the devs care the most about historical authenticity. Verdun was made because they wanted to make a fully historically accurate game about WWI, or at the very least feel like one. I dont know if it is active or not, but they had a discord server where they would regularly just talk about history. I dont think the dev team is huge. Games are great but its a shame about the playerbase size.

I actually remember playing Isonzo for a fair bit of time. I also played Verdun aswell. Both great games but the biggest issue is that it just get's repetitive. When isonzo first came out with in 20-30 hours of the game I was racking up 80-100+ kills each game with the Officer or Marksman class. While being at the top of the leaderboard was fun after some time it just felt like the more experienced you got at the game the less interesting it got. But when you start fresh something about being cannon fodder and fearing for your character's life is what made the game fun from the start. but again my biggest issue is that once you learned the mechanics, artillery calling spots and how to overpower the entire team you become an overpowered killing machine which defeats the whole purpose of re-creating the horrors of WW1. Although this is technically not the developers fault I can't help but point out this is one of the reasons why I stopped playing the game.

Man, UT was my childhood fps, mainly because I didn't own any CS and UT was free... I have so many vivid memories of that game, of jumping around on the Swimming Pool map (game had some swimming and underwater shooting IIRC), as well as fighting for the ski-resort gondolas and falling into the icy waters below, where people were camping to shoot you down while trying to get out of the water.
I had a lot of fun, and I'm grateful to my father for introducing me to it and playing with me from time to time.

Was going to say UT wasn't free but realized you were talking about Urban Terror and not Unreal Tournament. I am surprised I never heard about it, free games back then were my jam and I was constantly checking out mods and free games. How it flew under my radar I have no clue...

Yo, big ups for covering urban terror. Most servers are empty, but there are at least 2 ctf servers that are constantly full, and many other servers which fill and empty throughout the day either by chance or by pre-scheduled play times. The recent tourney you mentioned had over 4k games played in it. 5.0 Is coming. The devs are an all volunteer staff with all the usual other commitments, so it's slow going, but the game is currently in closed alpha testing. Also the jumping you mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg for UrT movement. It's the movement that has kept me playing all these years, the more you progress at learning the deeper the gameplay goes.

Man, I used to quite literally inhale Tribes when it released. That game gave me something that not even CS gave me. Every single kill felt satisfying and like an achievement and playing with friends made it even better. Good times. Wish a good publisher would pick up the game and do something with it. I sincerely hope that Tribe 3 can live up to my ideas of what I wish for it to be.

Pirates, Vikings and Knights 2... I used to play it all the time. I think one of the problems is that the updates to it just came out too slow. When it launched there was only 1 player type for each faction with more promised... Then those updates never really came and people stoped playing. Then those updates did come but I think too late, I went back in to check things out but even then themplayer count was very low and not like when the game first launched. It had a lot going for it and a unique idea...
Also I'll say it again, you should check out Return to castle Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. I have no idea if people play it anymore...

I've been on and off of "Isonzo" since day one. I find that most new players leave because it's not fast-paced, run and gun action. It's true to WWI in that you have to rush the enemy, take massive losses, and somehow wrestle away a capture or bomb by pure grit and dedication. The officers also make a world of difference, bad officers lead to losing more often than not. And if the scouts and officers aren't working in conjunction with one another, it severely hampers the team's ability to advance, or hold a position. If people communicate like they do in "Hell Let Loose" they often find themselves absolutely overwhelming the enemy. But even if nobody is talking, it's still fun to get crazy and ruin somebody's day with a bayonet to the chest, or a climbing pick to the head. I'm about to hop back into Isonzo again for the first time in two months, I don't think I'll ever actually put the game down. I hope you and your Discord community can put together some servers and just have an absolute time of it like us veterans do.

I love how you give these games justice. You give them a genuine try and try to see why they were popular, and even try to find extra info about them. There are real people who spent hundreds or thousands of hours of their life on those games, and it's definitely worth it to try and see why. I would suggest you try Tribes 1 and 2, Enemy Territory Legacy, Quake Wars, and Renegade X, as well, for the next games.

Oh man, randomly clicked this & seeing Tribes Ascend really sent me back. It somehow feels like it was older than 2012, but that's mostly because 2012 was a special year in its own way, where a lot of my time was filled between WoW & Tribes. Good times :')

In PVK2 you get the treasure chests and take them to your base, then the number on top goes up slowly until you get a certain point and it will determine the win. The more chests you have the faster the number goes up.

I, and a few of my friends, had a few less than official copies of a few games. Notable ones being FTL (which is a fantastic game) and some version of Urban Terror. We would play on our school's shitty computers and have a grand time doing 2v2's and messing around. I'm happy to see it's not just some figment of my bored mind from my school days. Thanks for the video!

I played Tannenberg the moment it went free on epic games and I really liked it. It gave me a lot of fun and although I have quickly realised there was a ton of bots, defending a trench with a few people using machine guns or holding one position consisting of a cannon and a cart for an hour alone felt great

You should show Quake Champions in one of these videos! It's almost dead, and it's basically the last Arena FPS in which you can still find games without going on Discord (though it takes a while). The game was kind of sabotaged by id and Bethesda, but it was a passion project made by og Quake devs, and it's really good, it uses the Hero Shooter framework in order to have old style Quake but with the movement types of a bunch of different Arena Shooters (including Quake World, Quake 3A, Quake 3 CPMA, Quake 4, and sort-of Unreal Tournament)
