Great video. I love your camera work - taking your food out of the bear box and the shot of the curved campfire. You’ve become a very accomplished cameraman. Thank you for putting so much into attempting to convey your experiences to us. We’ll never know the profound impact of your journey but we can definitely feel some of it.
Good job getting the campfire going in those conditions. Often times dead fall may appear wet, but finding the smaller diameter pieces and snapping them open, you'll find they are quite dry inside and helps to get them ignited. Looks like your homemade coozy, for your cook pot, is holding up well. One thing about winter hiking...you don;t have to worry about crowded shelters - take the silver linings where you can get them - HA!
Keep rolling brother. You’ll be in Damascus before you know it. Trail is looking much much better in southwest Virginia and Tennessee and North Carolina. Nothing close to perfect, but passable. Ramdino put out some good info today.
That takes a level of toughness, most people never experience. When was the last time you did a gear dump? I would be curious what you are carrying now. Section hiking is one thing, hiking the whole thing is yet something quite more, but the yoyo thing, you have things dialed in now!
Beautiful views today. Brrr..it looks very cold. Snow on the rocks looked a bit sketchy, but you made it look easy to forge through. The fire surely helps to warm up. Thanks for taking us along!
Yo Captain Jack! It’s Ricochet . Just found your channel man. Badass dude!I’ll be starting the Appalachian Trail January 11 going for the calendar triple crown hopefully we’ll run into each other on trail.
Great snowy, quiet walk through the woods and roads. Fantastic campfire at the hut. Sunset was nice through the bare trees. This is solstice time, so winter is officially here!
What temperature rating is your sleeping bag? Looks like at least a 15 degree bag would be in order. I wondered if you might later regret the time you spent on other trail diversions, while up north, instead of getting back south as soon as possible to pick up those missing miles on your original northbound trip. Best of luck picking up the skipped Smoky Mountain miles in NC...I hope the weather cooperates with you.
I'm an hour east of Orlando on the coast and it was low 40s last night. Mid January to mid February is the most brutal so at least you'll get a few parallels south before then. Be safe buddy!
I spent a night at Blackrock shelter years ago with my scouts. The brown oil paint on the floor was new and still a bit tacky in places. I may still have some gear or clothing with brown oil paint on.
🚶👟👟⛺🌞 it sure is cold winter is here before you know what spring will be on the way you're almost back to my home state of North Carolina stay safe and happy hiking 💯💪🏆🏆🏆 AKA Louisiana mountain man
Randino reports that the vast majority of the trial has now been cleared. They only have a few miles left and then it’s completely cleared. They will then work on fixing the root balls and the areas around the shelters. It looks like 2025 will start and things should go fairly well.
I'll have to find Quotations of Chairman Mao. The Red Chinese Army who retreated in the " Long March" across China. Korean. Only that blue flame to keep warm with. I'm thinking that natural materials might be gathered for extra warmth if needed. Cold is Cold. Sir Cat escaped last night. Left the door open. He returned when he got cold. Thinking of what an awful time you are having that will be remembered happily later. You don't need all those ties anyway!

Dude why do you were your head lamp to sleep
So when I have to get up in the middle of the night to piss, I don’t have to spend time looking for it first.
