For me drawing from observation can be really therapeutic because I don't have to think about what to draw. When I doodle I tend to get bored before I'm done and then I don't like the doodle. I can draw from imagination, but only if I already have a good image in my mind. Never really like how it looks when I just try to place lines haphazardly or automatically hoping to be inspired or for it to look like something. You have unbelievable patience for doodling.

You feel like some kind of painting everybody is judging admiring and observing. Some people love it and some people hate it. How does one overcome what we may have been taught as kids not to waste paper or ink or supplies. It is a real deterrent to art to have in the back of your mind that every line must be right. Seeing you go thru a stack of PostIts triggers that feeling that makes me go around turning off lights and turning down the heat. I have this block of Arches paper I can’t bring myself to use.
Year late, but this has been haunting me lately. This may not help everyone but I think of it this way: those supplies you don’t want to waste are already garbage in a sense. Raw materials have been harvested and processed to make them, mostly on a massive scale. They’re not special, they just exist now. If you bought them or they were given to you, that’s it. Your only responsibility now is to keep them, or dispose/recycle them responsibly. So why not use them and make it worthwhile that these raw materials were used up? It’ll make you happier that you did. It’s more of a “waste” to let them sit and loose out on the items and yours potential
Find really cheap supplies to start. Maybe a really old pad of paper or some supplies you already have. Maybe use a broken pen or something you find in a junk drawer. Then go. Let out your pent up emotions. If you're feeling worried about wasting supplies. Project it onto your art. The more you do it, the easier it will be to "waste materials"
