  • Dizzy Gillespie And The United Nation Orchestra.Live at The Royal Festival Hall, London. Dizzy was 72 at the time of this concert which would put this recording at 1989, or so. He stills plays the trumpet with such fervour and passion! Dizzy still lives on. Enjoy.

When you read the artists name James Moody, Arturo Sandoval , Mario Rivera Dizzy Gillespie just here for the accompaniment, it's just crazy ! Normally, you would expect one solo from each one of them.

Paquito is the best clarinet player i've ever seen...
The original take of paquito and Michel Camilo is extremely good... Danilo's piano playing is also awfully cool!!

Paquito recorded and released the song on Explosion album in 1986.
The BFFT album version was released in 1992.

@@radio.m.i.x thanks for rectifying. BTW I always wondered if M.Fest and H.Levy ever recorded it together. If so, that would likely be the very first version then?

@ludobeckers Oh, you're right. At least, Levy claims so in an interview, and no reason to doubt him :)

@nakanevis Hello, The song's name is Sureña, by Arturo Sandoval. Arturo plays it in piano

@nakanevis Seems to be Manfredo Fest, according to the liner notes for the album "UFO Tofu" by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, which includes a harmonica arrangement of the tune.

Howard Levy and Marcelo Fest are the authors.
Bela Fleck plays it, and there's a nice version by the Rosenberg Trio as well

@nakanevis the song is Seresta:Samba for Carmen and I believe it was composed by Hank Levy although it is credited to Paquito D'Rivera as well so i suspect he did some of the arranging. It would make sense since paquito plays the clarinet solo and is featured in the tune so he probably had a say in what was written. Hank Levy also did a lot of writing for the kenton band. I think he wrote pegesus for kenton as well.
