I'm wondering about fonts. The template download doesn't include fonts. What font are you using? I'm assuming it a standard font that ships with Windows and Mac?
I just don't understand how a person could down vote a video that has this level of production quality while giving value without asking for anything in return. Some people are so ungrateful.
much respect my friend...there's a few who thumbs down it within minutes of me uploading every. single. time. i try to stay positive...thanks for watching...glad to have you on my side...!
i think they might be saying "u killed it".... u know like the ROMANS hahahah i love what u do u r a generous person....then one day u ll' become even more famous than u are now.... that day some one will offer u something that u cant refuse. And that day they will take u away from us. that s how u loose great people from teaching humble people and only those who can afford will have access to u and not always are the ones who deserve it .
I'm a 3rd year arch student and your videos are so helpful. Professors often have a 'figure it out yourself' attitude so I always end up on your videos. Thanks for the content!
I am already miserable due to this... I have been watching several cad tutorial playlist videos but none of it caters to my needs of clear enough instructions... Do you have any recommendations for autocad lectures?
30X40 Design Workshop continues to be the best architectural practice/ experience channel on RUclips. I wish to express most profound appreciation! Please keep up the awesome work and thanks again!
I really appreciate you giving us such a deep dive into your work. I have been using CAD pretty much since college, and have always battled with wanting that aesthetic and using CAD. I even taught AutoCAD my first year out of college as it was so new and I had more experience with it than the instructors (weird right?). I went into school with a mechanical pencil in hand and came out with a mouse in it. So again, thank you for your take on keeping the art in architectural drawings. It keeps us from looking like engineers! LOL Seriously though.
Can you do a separate video on annotating CAD drawings? Creating legends, incorporating the structural grid and dimensions in your drawing layout? This is the one of the steps I mess up on a lot. Appreciate the work you're doing! Cheers!
I am a long time fan of your channel and am taking your lessons more seriously recently since I am looking forward to real professional growth as an interior designer. My current firm doesn't have a good drawing standard since there is no licensed architect in the small office.... and I've been struggling to improve my company standard without a professional CAD drawing foundation since I got hired as a fresh graduate. I really appreciate you sharing the invaluable information that you've built up over years/decades. I know this is not easy to do.
When I first subscribed this channel there were very few thousands subscriber and I was wondering this channel deserves much much more subscribers and today I see it. Your videos are the best sir. I don't miss one. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
I have no intention to become an architect. I have an intention to build a master piece of a house and thats how I stumbled on your channel and oh lord you are amazing! I hope to work with you sometime on future projects!
Eric, HNY to you. Just downloaded your Template and I haven't even watched the video!!! this is how much faith I have in what you provide. This is the only way I can send my gratitude and support to help you continue providing quality content for current and future architects.Keep it going for 2018.
Wow I remember watching this video when I was a sophomore and I didn't really appreciate it back then because I couldn't really understand the value of all of this info back then but now I'm mind blowing because you just open my eyes about how boring my work used to be ..thank you so much I really appreciate your effort and commitment to this wonderful channel
I just started drafting work at a road and transport firm. Though it may be different drafting work to yours, I actually learned a lot from this video. A lot of things you say makes bloddy sense. Thank you, will look for more of your videos.
Happy new (RUclips) year Eric! It impresses me no end how your visual aesthetic permiates everything you do: architecture signature, sketch style, work-flow, composition, video editing, graphics, typography, right down to colour grading. It's so clear, and styleful; and great branding! And consistant since back in the day when you presented voice-overs over stunning photos and beautiful typography. Respect!
Great work and so glad I have found your videos. I am a student in U.K learning so much from your tutorials from sketching to tools to Digital. Love your work mate from Essex U.K
Today I came across your channel and it's totally blown my mind! Content is very interesting and the way how you tell a story - tech stuff and voice over - deserves a great award!
Excellent video Eric as usual. As a licensed architect myself, I admire your way of clearly explaining your reasons for doing things, and your methods. It is interesting to hear how the other architects do their work flow. I hand sketch on trace the design, then layout the schematic plans with #2 pencil. After the initial meeting I use Sketchup to fine tune the schematic plans. Where you draw from the scratch the autocad plans, I import the plans, elevations, sections, into autocad from SU. It is a little work to erase the unwanted lines, it is still easier than measuring and drawing new lines in autocad. I then change the lines to whatever layer I want for thickness. The other thing I noticed is you draw your ext. walls to 6" for framing and 1/2" drywall, and interior walls it is 6-1/2" for drywall on each side. I dimension to the stud walls, and therefore my walls are 5-1/2" or 3-1/2" thick. It is easier for the framers to work with less chance of a mistake. Checking to see if you tried to import SU into autocad. Thank you, keep up the good work.
I'm B.Eng in Civil & Structural Engineering in the Arctic and a big nerd in static calculations, screw / bolt / weld / other connections. But lately I've been digging deep into architectural design and interior design, as I've been planning and made tender documents on housing renovations with my work for the last 2 years. I find it very interesting choosing materials, colours, minimum requirements for performances (air and water tightness, windload deformations, etc.) and making drawings. In my free time I look at city plannings, see possible areas to build a house and sketch on AutoCAD Map3D. It's super fun and I understand more what architects work with. I need to understand more of what architects go through - so I can work with them better on construction projects. Currently, in my free time, I am planning my future dream house on my parents' ground. And I can very much relate for the steps shown in this video! 😊
As a ME, I’m pretty much a AutoCAD first sketcher. I like to iterate over a handful of ideas quickly, so I’ll copy and paste current iterations next to each other as I go, so I can try out major changes without loosing the original, or grab components off older iterations. By the time I’m done, there’s usually ten or twelve copies sitting right next to each other, and I can really quickly see what’s working and what isn’t. I also find the ability to get the rough scale correct, right from the beginning really helpful. With paper designs, it will look like everything fits and works only to realize one integral component is just irreparable the wrong size. Just the way I go about it though.
Your Channel is one of the best Architecture Channel i have come across and just want to tell you that keep inspiring us with your word ...Just loving it and watching some videos on Loop ..... Love from India
I purchase your book about a year a go and it has definitely helped me managing my small practice in Malaysia. Will be purchasing your cad template soon too. Thanks much Eric, will always support you on your ventures & I sincerely enjoyed all of your videos.
These are great videos I wished would have been available when I was an architecture Student. Thanks for giving us an in-depth look at your CAD standards. Your drawings are beautiful and have given me some new ideas on organizing my own. 15 years in CAD, 10 in construction/architecture, still getting inspired! Thanks.
Excellent video. I teach Architectural Drafting and this is a great overview. For those complaining about the template, you can easily make your own from this video.
This is so useful for all of us! I would like you make a VIDEO of your BASIC SET to achieve the look in plans that you present. I just love your drawings and I would like to set up my CAD as you do to achieve your look. Thank so much for all the content you create for us!
"It takes all types to fill the freeways!" I start all my projects in CAD. I only use tracing paper when meeting with client to mark up (overlay) the drawings about our options. I just found it faster and easier to make changes with CAD. I like you, still think in 2H, HB, & 2B. Colors represent line thicknesses to me. I could actually draw in just 3 colors. I will look at your templates our of curiosity. After 30 year, I like you, have developed my own (really just a continuation of what I learned at previous firms) Good video as usual!
super interesting...i keep hoping more people - esp. those with lots of experience (hint-hint) - will share their expertise... always great hearing your perspective tim...agree CAD is fast...have to check myself sometimes on that though, b/c my fast solutions aren't always the right ones...cheers...
You made this backgroud all by yourself ? ( 7:10 ) By the way, this is one of the best channels I found out there. Keep going, you are helping me a lot!
TNice tutorials is aweso! I was feeling kinda overwheld when i first start soft but after watcNice tutorialng your tutorial video, i feel much more confident
Blimey, how quaint! I stopped using CAD over two decades ago. From pencil sketch to 3D/BIM sketch, working drawings, ‘renderings’ and VR. No need for an electronic drawing board :-) Clients in the U.K. can rarely read drawings anyway so a ‘cyber’-building can be understood quicker :-)
THANK YOU FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE!! YOUR INSTRUCTION AND VIDEO ARE ONE OF THE FINEST IVE SEEN ON YOU TUBE! IM STARTING A BUSINESS SOON AND WANTED TO INCLUDE DESIGN PLAN WITH MY BUSINESS PLAN FOR A BETTER UNDERSTANDING TO THE INVESTORS I PITCH TO...SO AGAIN THANK YOU! Ahh! Learning my lesson now. Be very intentional about “breaking from the grid”. I’ve got several places in my house that really hurt. Places that are 8’8” forcing me to cut up two pieces of 8’ stock, or my 20’4” porch that prevents me from buying the cheaper standard sized beams. Stuff that didn’t benefit from the unintentional few inches but sure cost a lot more.
I’ve been following your channel for some time now and I love the videos you produce! The content of this video is what I’ve been looking for for some time. Many thanks
Architect, seeing you work makes inspires me to develop the craft more. Uplift the profession. Cheers! I will look forward for more contents from your page. Please keep doing amazing videos such as this.
I've been on Autocad for 35 years now, and I think I've refined it. 1 more tip if you want to do coloring, don't do it with solid color, you get much better shading and control by using ( ok we have to color our plans for local authority, different items different specific colour's) ok that said. Use dots hatch to colour. I like 1000 scale dots 0.2 pen thickness. That gives you a very subtle colour, and then you can control the colour intensity by lowering hatch scale to 900 or 800. And it uses much less ink when printing. Try it. Over years I've programmed my keyboard, so I hardly ever click on icons in menus. If you work by typing shortcuts you speed up your work 3 times because you work with 2 hands and not just with the mouse.
Your template is extremely well put together. You're so organized I think you've never had any need to use the more modern features in AutoCAD (like blocks, annotative text, etc...). These would save some time. Maybe not as much on your unique one-off type projects compared to an office doing more repetitious work. For me, I tend to do more "production" drafting (multi-residential, etc... ). I've really dug deep to maximize productivity. I wish I could convince more people that great drawings can save the owner a decent amount of $$$ by the time the project is built, even if they take slightly more time on the front end.
Thank you so much as 3d visitations artist CAD has not been my strong point but now I have a better understanding of where I've been going wrong ....loved you point on zooming out and in of the drawings how line weights play and important to highlight what's important...I will be watching this over n over ... I would request a video on the difference type of cad drawing like your celling layout
I love watching your videos and the processes that you use doing your projects. I love architecture but not sure of how to go about transitioning into the field because I'm in my 30's and it will be a career change for me. Thank you for making these awesome videos. I enjoy watching them!
Gotta say Eric, it was well worth the 3 week wait for this video! hope you had a great holiday, Happy New year and looking forward to your 2018 posts. Cheers -Zack
Thank you so much for sharing your ctb file.I worked in many companies and used to many autocad pen assignments.you have a very clean one.I hope i can follow yours for my personal design.Learning a lot from you. Thanks a loooottt
This video really helped me to understand more about architects. I thought architect was all about building models and drawings but in reality its really more than that. This inspired me alot and give me more confidence to pursue my career. Btw im only 15. Love ur vids bro
Your channel is so inspirational for me as a student, such good advice and the work you do is really nice. Keep up the good work it's so helpful to have these kind of videos online.
Cheers Eric. Nice to see a video up so soon!! Lots of good tips as always and I'll be putting it straight to use in my Uni project. Thanks as always and look forward to the next one
I Have no money yet to buy this template is to expensive, but i recognize the great quality of this material, keep doing the hard work!!! One day Eventually i'm gonna buy!!
Absolutely top notch video! This sums up the process beautifully. I have trained many people, and to teach the "artistic" side of it as efficiently as you did here is not easy. Video production was also spot on. Excellent job!
This is awesome! I'd love to see more of this. I've learned a lot from watching your videos and about to begin drawing the plan of my basement remodel so I can submit it of permits! Thank you! \m/

thank you for sharing.
I'm wondering about fonts. The template download doesn't include fonts. What font are you using? I'm assuming it a standard font that ships with Windows and Mac?
You'll find included in the 'readme.pdf' links to download the necessary fonts (they're free if you don't already have them)...

I honestly feel blessed that someone so talented like you shares for free your knowledge with us, THANK YOU!

He asks 50$ for this to get lol

it's like you were telling my story🤯
It’s very generous of you to share your template to the public! That will be definitely be handy for young/starting designers and even students!
seriously...this channel should be in Netflix....I showed to my classmates...they real appreciate the clarity of the process and explanations....
Thanks for sharing...it helps me spread the word...
I am taking my intro to cad courses now for my architecture degree and this video is leaps and bounds above the videos we get from our instructors.
Been teaching Autocad for over 5 years now, and no one has described a drawing template the way you have! Beautiful CAD work! Keep doing it
Can you do a separate video on annotating CAD drawings? Creating legends, incorporating the structural grid and dimensions in your drawing layout? This is the one of the steps I mess up on a lot. Appreciate the work you're doing! Cheers!

Beautiful drawings. This is the essence of simple CAD software for documents...the software is essentially a digital drafting board (unlike BIM).
Cheers, Jeff...well said!

This dude is everything an office would accept! His presentation, the way of making his work, and his voice is satisfying!

I've been watching you since my third year of university, I enjoy them thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Love his content as a Junior architect it's so hectic and his videos have helped me out a lot.
I can see that you really respect your viewer's time and aim to produce top quality, to-the-point videos. Cheers, you've earned another subscriber!

Im just starting learning cad. I will definitely try your template to help me improve my work. Thank you so much for your videos!

It might sound awkward but I really love the background music as I think it would help a lot of people stay calm while they are working.
Ahh! Learning my lesson now. Be very intentional about “breaking from the grid”. I’ve got several places in my house that really hurt. Mate to be honest i haven’t seen a decent content and terrific introductory as your channel keep up the great work !!!
It's a real pleasure watching your videos! Thumps up!!
I just don't how eric manages both film making and architecture. Cuz both are two big oceans? Respect
I just got accepted into architecture school, your videos have inspired me so much
I really love your videos! They make Architecture seem peacful.
I’ve been following your channel for some time now and I love the videos you produce! The content of this video is what I’ve been looking for for some time. Many thanks

Please keep doing amazing videos such as this.
This is my best channel! Lots of ideas to learn
The only tNice tutorialng I have given my full attention for in my entire life and I then watched it again.
Sir, watching your channel makes me proud to be an architect , you deserve more subs
thx you
I've been on Autocad for 35 years now, and I think I've refined it.
Lie weights is an absolute must in Cad, I've seen many plans drawn in 1 line weight, and it's a nightmare to read.
The template is definitely one of the most efficient way to save your time!!!
Your template is extremely well put together. You're so organized I think you've never had any need to use the more modern features in AutoCAD (like blocks, annotative text, etc...). Am a big fan of your Chanel... keep hustling.❤️❤️

I must say, apart the architectural work itself, your video likewise is very very well made.
This video really helped me to understand more about architects. I thought architect was all about building models and drawings but in reality its really more than that. This inspired me alot and give me more confidence to pursue my career. Btw im only 15. Love ur vids bro

Your template is truly a belated Christmas present! Thanks a lot :D
Absolutely top notch video! This sums up the process beautifully. I have trained many people, and to teach the "artistic" side of it as efficiently as you did here is not easy. Video production was also spot on. Excellent job!
Everything you do feels like art... great video!
