I have one of the "Red Cross" radio's and the internal battery started going bad. It was similar to the batteries in cordless phones.. Replaced it and it will hold a charge now.. Just something I found.

Buy a GMRS radio license, or get your Ham Radio Ticket, and ditch this stuff. Get a good VHF / UHF radio, that you can call for help with! Scan channels, talk on repeaters, monitor weather channels, but chat with your local area radio operators!

Ditch this stuff? I would normally delete this type of comment but instead I will explain why I think you are wrong and use it to help others understand communication. While I appreciate your thoughts and comments I have to disagree with your assessment and advice. If you follow my channel I have always advocated for all those radios you mentioned and done many videos about those types of radios. However, it is very important to have access to all available information. Also, HAM, GMRS, etc does not fit everyone's needs. I cant see my parents or grandparents in particular using a HAM radio to listen and communicate. GMRS is limited to line of sight or at best limited repeaters. Sometimes a simple AM/FM radio like in this video is what is needed to hear what is going on during a grid down situation where communication and information is limited. If I were just picking 2 radios to have for the average Joe would be a radio like this and a CB radio. While CB is limited it is still widely used the most on any given day by thousand of truckers all over the country. A basic CB has saved me more than a few times including during the BLM/ANTIFA riots where truckers/CB operators told me of a blocked highway or other issues. This does not count the many times I was told of a flooded road, traffic accident, road blocked, etc, etc. Again, I appreciate your comments but communication is not a one size fits all in many ways. However, a simple $25 AM/FM/NOAA radio is about as one sizes fits most as any communication you can get. Turn it on, turn the knob and listen for information you need to help you figure out the best plan of action.

@@GunsandGearNetwork While I agree, with your comment and appreciate it's message. A small radio has its place. I even like your CB idea. I guess it just bowls down to the person, and how well they are prepared for emergemcies! I have been trying to prep. My elderly father, for years. He just refuses to fool with any of it. Even though he almost got wiped out, 2 years ago, during a massive tornado, that hit our town! I am like you, any communications are better than none!
