Thanks for putting together a video on this, I've been thinking for some time to pick up a holster but wasn't sure about getting the size right. This helps!!! I just did a measurement on where I expect to wear it and came up with 44" which puts it just a little low on my hip. Now to find a nice holster....that doesn't break my budget! Thanks again!
Very informative... thanks. I like how you were so inclusive and clear with the information. I followed your steps/advice and got my gun rig... several actually... and they fit great, thanks to you. You rock!
Most modern pants are vanity sized, so the size on the tag is generally 2 sizes smaller than the actual measurement. If those Dockers are size 40 on the tag, then they're actually 42. Good rule of thumb for gun belts are to size up 2 1/2 sizes up from your actual waist, or 4 1/2 sizes up from your jean waist size. So if you wear a size 40 pant waist, 45 sounds about right. I wear a 36" waist in jeans, and 41" gun belts are kinda tight on me until they break in. I could probably go to 42", but there's just too much flop. (I work in the clothing industry, so I'm constantly explaining to women why their waist isn't actually an 8, it's a 10. Not a conversation I like to have.)
@@1fleake I just got my second Arvo gun rig. It looks just like Matt Dillon's gun belt and holster except it is black and hardly ever worn. My first was another black one for .22 caliber and is a fast draw. They are nice, but yours are better :) I've wanted one for 55 years, but I didn't know the maker because we had no internet back then. I'm soooo happy to have them and the workmanship is second to none. Both are lined and have the steel insert for the cylinder.
Sounds like very nice gunbelts. I am glad you have the rigs you have wanted for so very long. Congrats ☺ Arvo is one of the best rigs out there. Sadly, I haven't found a maker today that compares to the Arvo rigs......maybe, someday👍
@@1fleake Believe it or not, there is one western holster and gunbelt maker that seems to have the exact design as far as the sewing and pieces being accurate and even includes a steel insert for the cylinder that is built into the holster just like Arvos. It's not Alfonso, it is a leather smith. The holsters and gun belts look identical.

Thank you for the information. I'm putting my first CFDA rig together. I have a Colt SAA with a 5-1/2 barrel. I also bought the holster but I need the gun belt. I was thinking of getting an oversize belt with holes on the entire length to adjust for fast draw gun/holster height. Once I figure out my shooting style and draw action with the temporary rig, I'll get a real fast draw rig.
This is great. I like how you use the paper and a ruler to do the hip measurement. I’ve been scrubbing our garage for an old sewing tape and resigned to asking my mother in law to bring one over. Should have just used paper and a tape measure! Sounds like taking the pants measurement and adding 4-5 inches might be an ok rule of thumb?
Thanks, this was helpful. Looking to put together my first gun belt in this style and I appreciate your info. Any recommendations on a good quality belt? Looking for just plain black for a 4 3/4" barrel. All the best and take care.
Hey Mike and thanks for your comment. There are a few good gun belts on the market. 2 low cost, but good belt builders are "Red Dog Leather" and "D.A.D" on Ebay. There are others online that are top quality, but at a higher cost. Thanks again

I'm not a big guy, waiting on my belt and holster from Lewis Leathers ebay store for my SA Frontier. I went four inches bigger than my normal jean size so hope it fits as I never owned a rig like this before.
Hello That's a personal preference type question. It depends on what your looking for in a gunbelt. The material, the gunbelt is from. The style of gunbelt. Gunbelt makers have strong and weak points, we all have strong and weak points. You may like the quality of workmanship but, don't like the style or look of the gunbelt.....for example So. When you find just that perfect combination.......you'll know I know this is a vague answer. But, I think it's the best answer for searching for that perfect gunbelt.
Hi there I make the holster that it fit you good one question can you sale me the arvo ojala pattern please llet me know I can make you a holster thanks..
I would like to buy a western double gun belt with a cell phone holster on one hip and a cell phone recharger holster on the other hip. I don't need the bullet tracks on the back of the belt.
@@1fleake I saw it in a dream I had yesterday. I have only seen the cell phone holster which attaches to the belt, but it has 2 flaws. One, the holster is too high to grab. Second, it doesn't take much to accidently detach the holster from the regular belt and fall on the ground. I'm always forgetting where I leave my phone, so if I had the western style double gun belt with 2 holster (1 hip side for the phone & the other side to carry the recharger & earphones) I would have a less of a chance of loosing my phone.
There are a couple western holster makers on EBay If you message them will the style holster your looking for........I think they can make the holster your looking for.

All 40 cal revolvers are the same size 40, 41, 44 and 45 calibers. The difference is in the barrel length, sights on the revolver and shape of the pistol.
I bought a gun belt that fit alright when I tried it on, but when I went home and put on my outfit it was a little big, is there anything I can do to help it fit?
Is the gunbelt to loose or to tight with your outfit? You maybe able to have the buckle strap taken off and placed to give a better fit. If not, I have seen added extensions you can buy to give a little more length to the belt. Hope this helps.
I measure 34, not in my jeans size but in my waist. I bought a 34 size gun belt and it doesn't fit, so I bought a 38. Will a 38 fit me okay? it hasn't arrived in the mail yet.
Hello A size 38 belt should work fine. An idea. Get one of those measuring tapes used for sewing. Have your blue jeans on. Then, loosely.....not to loose Measure your hip size.
