Taken from the band's album 2009 album 'Soul Messin', This Girl features Aussie songstress Kylie Auldist (renowned for her work with The Bamboos, Polyester & Mega Bias) who joins forces with the boys and provides the focus for this mellow, beautiful and incredibly catchy song. Shimmering horns ride over this laid back, deep soul classic which has been one of Freestyle Records' most popular singles ever! It crossed over to the modern Northern Soul scene and the vinyl 45 has changed hands for crazy money. recently included on Sony Musics 'Craig Charles Funk & Soul Classics' album.
Kylie Auldist - vocals
Jake Mason - Hammond Organ
Dan West - Guitar
Ivan Khatchoyan - Drums

Kungs remix is fresh, but something so special about the original. Keyboardist rocking the bass & organ fill....
That's someone who's listened to old school work and paid attention by God! That's all Jimmie Smith and Richard Groove Holmes. Best mixing of a live drumset that I've heard in a long time too! Kudos to audio engineer on this!
That device is called a Leslie speaker. It's inventor's last name was Leslie. He created it to make an electric Hammond organ imitate the sound of a pipe organ.
My opinion is that both songs are incredible. I like the original's 70s feel to it, and the newer version is really upbeat.
I feel the same. Reminds me of the debate I have with myself over the Young Rascals' 'Groovin' original version, and the War version from the 70s. Both fantastic. Keep chaning my mind as to which one I prefer!
@@debh1463 The good thing to do is stop to ask yourself which one is the best. Good music is enough of a qualifyer for a song. We don't need a personal chart.
I think this might be older than the 70s.
Agree. Both are good in their own ways.
Yes agree. I like them both for different reasons..
Oh mother of god...Kungs' version of this brought me here and I'm ear-fucked with the original! Didn't think it could get any better but was dead wrong. Born and raised in Southern California and adore old funk and soul.
You bloody Aussies!
Kylie Auldist is an AMAZING vocalist!!!
Kylie's voice is fantastic, it's actually made this song
OMG!!! 0:44 - 0:49
That phenomenal "difference" from the Kungs version (which I heard first)
The way she variates her voice, and the guitar that follows it.
Gosh! that is simply phenomenal!
this bridge 2:12 also not in Kungs remix
@Kimora Harris sorry it is in the remix too.
Kylie’s voice is so right for this song.
Can't beat the original, but i'm happy the KUNGS remix is bringing this one to the top! Great tune!
agree
Your right Mike , Emerson college radio in Boston played this and said in was the Kungs , I eventually found my way to Kylie
Michael Mortlock the rhythm on this original version is top notch, so much soul. But I'll be damned if Kungs remix doesn't make me want to dance all day and all night.
NueThunderKing EXACTLY!
NueThunderKing a
THIS IS THE ORIGINAL SONG! yessss love it!
The original is more of a love song. The remix is more of a dance hit. Both Great!!
This one is so much better!!!
this is not the original, this is live
@@o_o8476 I imagine that it sounds better!
The best version of this song and this girl singing is gorgeous!
Both versions are amazing, but this one is more touching and beautiful.
I met Kylie and saw her and the Glenroy All Stars live at The Night Cat in Fitzroy last night. Was standing 10 feet from her as she did the Kungs version as an encore and it was like listening to a studio recording. It was surreal. I took one of their playlists as a souvenir. Wow, that girl is a natural born singer. Thanks Kylie for a great night.
I looked this up because of the Kungs remix - that remix is great, and this is equally great, this is so nice. This seems to be an awesome group - I will explore them more, based on this. This is so beautiful - the music and the video - very beautiful!
I was going to comment the same thing, The original is very soothing and reminiscent of songs from yesteryear when lounge singers were more common post ww2 just like my grandmother.
Bro I appreciate the grammar in your comment, seriously. This is about the nicest written one I've ever seen. The second was the other lovely person that commented on here.
Love both versions of this song.
But love that the remix still keeps a lot of the original.
this version is great for mellow moods, remix for workouts!
love this tune
Why does this not have 20 million views?
I had never heard of these guys until the Kungs remix. I hope they continue making jazzy easy listening music and get the recognition they deserve! Definitely gonna be listening to the rest of their music.
One doesn't exclude the other. Kungs is a younger generation that just picks up on this wonderful original melody, and interprets it with the spirit of his generation. The remix feels like an homage to the original.
Aussie soul - an undiscovered gem. Love the catchy melody! Kung's remix is sublime - now a permanent number in my DJ dance tracks!
Still listening, oi oi
I heard this song 1 time and couldn't wait to hear it again. I love her voice and the band/beat is perfect. The newer version brings back a lil of the disco era when the world was a better place.
agree
I was hoping to hear the trumpet
still love this version
I love both versions.
OOO she got that SOUUUUUUL spirit 👏💯
This made me so happy
I first heard this song in Santa Cruz on the wharf in some café and that’s why this song reminds me of California. That was my first time ever being to California and it just blew my mind how beautiful North California, Washington and Oregon are. Once he gets into your veins, you just keep feeding to go back. PS I also love the original version of this song, it’s a tossup, but I think the original takes it by one percent.
The this needs to be playing in the streets worldwide and all problems would be solved. Thanks for making this music cool again.
Old school R and B 😎😎
This Kylie can sing. Glenroy has a load of hidden treasures. People who can actually sing. Up market trackies in Woollies from now on.
ok.. Style Council my ever changin mood
Le atmosfere sono quelle...
Yes style council but still really good
Ohhh my goodness!!! The soul in her vocals ! Cooking on 3 Burners that are hot !! Wooo weee!
Iconic and timeless
So lovely.. so chilling to d max😎👍🥳💋🌍🌹
Pure magic and soul.
I heard the Kungs remix first on a Pandora station I listened to, and then looked up if it was sampled from something. Then when I found the original, I ended up liking both; but the original is FIRE!!!!
I'd take it back even further, early to mid 60's, got that Northern Soul feel to it. Can't describe, but always know when I hear it. Feels like home. 😎
After I watched Kungs' remix, I also drop by here. I just love both versions!
Wow ❤️ her voice.
The original is just the right speed,..and it compliments this old soul replica beautifully,...I'm 56 yrs old from Chicago and I thought it was from my day !!!
SilkySlim I'm 54 and this is a great tune and have it in my collection
Beautiful live version! Much talent right here!
This song is so underrated, nevermind Kungs. Can we just appreciate this song for what it is. Just a great piece of work! 💗 Thank You Cookin' on 3 Burners & Kylie Auldist. Incredible song. Should get together for something else soon!
sur califas bumping this jam at every car function ....we cant get enough, thank you !
Pure magic 🌌
It's fantastic going into the comment section of a song from a traditional genre that was sampled in electronic music or hiphop and then not having the remix trashed. Glad people can appreciate both.
This song is a great gift!
This is beautiful......
This is one hell of a song through cans, excellent
I heard the remix first & I prefer this to the remix. But the remix gave this song the visibility for me to hear it. I do like the remix too.
MARAVILHOSOS! Que voz linda de Kylie! E que trio extraordinário! ❤
I found this band due to the remix by Kung but having heard it, I knew I was going to have to find the original band... It's so cool to see proper funk being done by an Aussie band of all places... I would have sworn this was some kind of black american songstress and I am pleased to be surprised. Now off to buy the album... you have to reward great artistes for good work
We need a lot more of this type of music in the world
her voice is so beautiful, like wow..just wow.
cant stop listening to it. too deadly.luv it
She sings so good.
I love this song, her voice is amazing!
That's music in its essence
Wow😢😮
Such a shame I’ve only found the original now 😫 love both versions
A duet between Kylie Auldist and Sharon Jones would be fucking EPIC.
wow yesssss! definitely
would have been if Sharon didn't pass away.
yes it would have been a great collaboration 😑 rip sharon jones
Great song and love her voice!!!
Amazing tune, amazing voice and amazing music.... Simply world class. This record couldn't possibly be any better.

Formidable votre chanson, et merci pour avoir inspiré notre jeune français.
Sweet Yeezas, what a nice rocking song and this woman voice is delightful
Que voz maravilhosa perfeita e a música show🇧🇷
Sim, curtindo muito ♡
Vc nunca vai comprar meu amor!😉
pure late 60"s soul, love it
ayo the drumming is highkey insane, how'd I not notice that the first time??
This one you listen to relax and the remix to leave to cheer up
Wow....I admit I've heard The Kung's version and love it but the original version has more feeling and soul. I fell in love with this version.
This song bangs
what is the exact GENRE of this song....i must listen to every song ever made in this genre!!!!
Soul,R&B
I heard the remix on the radio and was instantly hooked. The original version is just a great.
What a wonderful voice and an amazing groove. Good stuff!
Yeah I love this original version of this tune. It’s from the 70s is what I’m hearing, and back then many of the big hits had a horn section in their groups. If there’s one thing the original live version has missing are the horns used in the newer one. That would have given me all the best this tune has to offer vocal and musically.
It's from 2009!
She is underated
THIS IS A MASTERPIECE!! SHE HAS AN AMAZING VOICE. AND THE BAND IS ON POINT..
can't get enough of her voice, simply superb song
My new favorite song I'm hooked on both versions
The voice's kylie soooooo goodddddd i LOVE ITTT
Heard this a couple of weeks ago and Shazamed it. Gave me Kungs remix but found this. Much better for me since I really only like the Oldies sound.
Thanks Kungs for sending me here, cause THIS IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE
I have room in my heart for both because they're each so different...
I Love this song. thanks Kungs ♥
i could listen to this all day long! the vocal and background music is just perfect
This is the smoothest shit ever, its a shame people that listen to the kungs remix (which I do as it is my favourite song) don't check this out too
I’m still trying to decipher the difference. I’m to much in love with that voice.
What a fantastic sound you guys have!! I could listen to this kind of stuff ALL DAY!
just gorgeous, playing this tonight!!, nevermind that remix!!!
Bravo 👏 Respect from Russia 🇷🇺
