- Could this be the ultimate Porsche 911?
Welcome to the new 911 S/T. On the face of things, it looks remarkably similar to the GT3 Touring. No shock, really, as the majority of the bodywork is the same.
However, lurking underneath the relatively subdued appearance is the upgraded and outright raucous version of the 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six found in the track-focused 911 GT3 RS. That’s good for 525hp and 465Nm.
Rather than using the PDK gearbox of the RS, the S/T takes the six-speed manual from the regular GT3. It comes with a few tweaks, including a shorter final drive and a single-mass flywheel.
Despite using the RS’ track-honed engine, Porsche engineers have tuned the chassis of the S/T to be the ultimate road-focused machine. This includes a simplified suspension setup and the removal of rear-wheel steering.
With a price tag of £231,600 and an extremely limited production run, you’d hope this to be a truly special entry into the iconic sports car’s storied history. Is it? Mat gets behind the wheel to find out…

This car is one of the most beautifully designed 911s Porsche has ever come up with. And I could listen to the Porsche guy's explanations for hours...

That Porsche guy knows his creations to the core ❤️ unlike some manufacturer who don't even know much. Another masterpiece from Carwow.
And that's why Porsche is able to produce these amazing quality machines. Even the top-level guys absolutely love their products and know every single detail. It more than just a job to them.
"That Porsche guy", have some RESPECT for Andreas, he is not "just a Porche guy", he is the master mind behind EVERY 911 GT car and he is the main reason why the GT3 still has a manual transmission.

That ST has a perfect design for me.. And the blue with the decals just works, the interior is beautiful aswell. That engineer Andreas i think really explained stuff well and he really knows every little detail which is expected but he got a charm.. What else do you expect from a carwow video 👌
that shake in revs once you shift sounds so good. Don't know other cars than 911 doing this shake.

Andreas is a LEGEND! It must have been so cool to talk to such an incredibly knowledgeable Porsche Engineer. It was just so interesting hearing him list off the numerous cool features and interesting parts to this stunning ST (although hearing ST just makes me think of gloriously singing Ford/Volvo 5 cylinder turbo engines screaming and popping and banging haha!) I love how he redirected Matts attention back onto the engine decklid vent/grill, the man knows what he wants to discuss and the most efficient order to discuss these points. How very German and an example of the efficiency they inherently possess and how the Germans make the greatest cars in the world!
Absolutely loving the vibe in this video! 🚗💨 Matt's genuine passion and Andreas' meticulous knowledge combine to bring out the spirit of the 911. It's heartwarming to see the fusion of dedicated engineering and sheer love for cars. And let's not forget that iconic shake in the revs when shifting, truly a unique Porsche trademark! 👌

I wondered if you were referring to the Jeep Avenger video. That was made private after Mat's honest review of it which it seems Jeep didn't like so it was pulled.
After watching this I would hands down take the S/T and cancel the RS. This may well be my new favourite. loved this video and the explanations and discussions with the Porsche reps more like this please, Excellent job Matt.
If Matt could get an allocation, 100% he would have switched to ST.
It's already an achievement getting an allocation for a GT3RS let alone a ST😅

As cool as the car is that guy from Porsche is by far the coolest guy from Porsche they've ever sent! He's easy to understand he seems extremely knowledgeable plus he actually has a sense of humor!! Porsche should send that guy out for more interviews and car reviews!
He's the head of the GT department😂 he's not really "sent by Porsche" but is presenting the car that his team built and he was in charge of. Ofc he's not the one presenting the newest base 911 or Taycan. Also if you look, you'll see he's the one presenting all the recent GT cars like the GT3 RS, GT2 RS or Cayman GT4 RS. There are plenty of RUclips videos with him. One absolutely amazing with him and Chris Harris talking about classic RS cars with a peak of the new GT2 RS at the end
Love the humility and humbleness of the Chief of Porsche’s GT Division! He’s like so passionate and down to earth
what I love about Porsche is how specific they are in their design while having variety, but a specific type of variety, like they have GT road cars that are sporty and fun but comfortable enough too while having that driver's car experience(like this car or the Turbo S)and if you want more and want to sacrifice some comfort for performance they have the GT3 and GT4 for you and if you're a Racer and you want your Porsche for the Track they have the RS for you, but they're ultimate a Sport/Performance Car and they're very focused and specific on that and they keep refining it over the years instead of changing their strategy or losing their focus on this mission, they consistency and insistency on this is admirable

Doing this with the gt2rs motor in a manual would have been monumental...
Although the naturally aspirated is great for the street... Nothing compares to the feeling when you short shifting 2nd to 3rd gear and let the boost rearrange your insides when rolling it out to redline 😍
Love they used the ST name for this. The original ST is arguably one of the greatest and rarest classic 911’s.
All I can say, this thing is BEAUTIFUL! As much as I like all the RS models, they look a bit "racer boy" for my aging taste in cars. This thing is breath taking. Having it a manual is where its at when you want to ENJOY your drive, winning races and having fun are two different things...
I would've thought the original R8 and the Gallardo with the gated manual would be up there as well for best manual gear shift. Jeremy Clarkson loved it.
R8 LMS also gated with 7 Speed MT.
I think it's a sinle clutch setup tho so it's probably not a very fast shift

@@peoplesrepublicofchina8340 Me too, 981 Spyder here. I had a lightweight flywheel on my 05 Boxster S. I’ll put one in my Spyder some day, and both cars have the Porsche short shifter. Short shifter and LWF are a magical combo.

The engineer’s insight was so helpful and balanced.
Andreas is a great and relaxed guy. I could listen him for hours speaking Porsche.
I really enjoyed that. Loved hearing from the engineer. So much thought and planning went into that car, but an owner can still make it very much their own.

The 911 S/T have around 590bhp imo.

One of the best Porsche videos I've seen, great work. Nice flow to the conversation without interruptions yet good questions.
What a beautiful machine, also the color similar to Nardo looks fabulous. And the passion visible in all folks in the video, Matt seems crazy happy and the engineer so detailed and passionate.
Seeing that such a masterpiece of a car has been tested on the twisty mountain roads where I learned how to drive has given me goosebumps! That’s really the best choice considering how uneven the road surface is to test the great car stability and performance! Matt is by far the most involving car journalist!
combination off matt present, andreas happiness feels when he explaining this lovely car, and the car itself, really made me fall in love more with porsche as a brand and the people who loves it truly.

2. People argue about BMW M this and BMW M that, but ultimately Porsche is the one you want to have.
I continue to live vicariously through Mat Watson... so cool to be able to drive and compare these amazing machines.

Looks and sounds wonderful. Love the detailed insight from Mr Andreas GT! My only problem is that it renders the Touring a bit irrelevant and will wreck its values. I'm not sure there's space in the lineup for both the Touring and the S/T
This just looks like Porsche/engineering heaven here. Every question has a beautifully detailed answer, all put in the context of how every part will help the driving experience. Really fantastic to see this - it's that passion and appreciation which is totally contagious. Great video. What I love is the fact that Matt drives so many uber fast EVs but I've never seen him so excited or enthusistic about a car than he is about this manual, ICE powered 911.

Yeah cause it's a classic design with the GT3 RS performance (same engine same body parts)...it's manual it's the car that approaches track maniacs and classic drivers...you can't go on rough roads with the GT3 RS and you can't go to track with a basic 911 (comparing results)..best of both worlds plus its a 60yo anniversary car...they always cost more

Terrific review - great sense of what this car can do especially compared to the other current 911s. And for a head of a major car department Mr Preuninger talks with great knowledge and enthusiasm.
Now that the tested ST is damaged goods and basically a write off, i'll be happy to take it off Porsche's hands...

every time i see andreas preninger talk i can see his inner child come out in the best way possible, you can see how passionate he is, how much he loves this, it gets him fired up, makes him smile, makes him happy and i admire that and love that. he is creative and loves and gets joy out of what he does, thats awesome!!!
