    When I was in Canada as a teenager, a friend of mine had a YC 45D and I used to play it all the time. It was black on black, like your picture from Australia.

    Absolutely brilliant review/demo, thank you! Awesome tunes you play there too :)
    I stumbled over a YC-45D for sale online a few days ago and started to research this thing, but didn't find too many good videos or sound demos of it. Anyways, I suddenly got a chance to buy it, but had to decide today and thought it wise to have another search first - and there it was, this perfect video of yours - published yesterday? What timing! Definately helped in knowing it was the right choise for me to make the deal, so thank you very much indeed. I also intend to explore my old guitar pedals with this beauty, cant wait for it to arrive, it's gonna be amazing :)

    Great video! I have a vintage YC 25D that I bought new back in 1977. It still plays great and the sound is great. Have the bass pedals and its built like a tank. Very underrated organs that compete well against the Vox and Farfisa organs!

    The color coding of the levers was the same color coding as used on Wurlitzer Theater Organs for the stop tabs.

      Good to know. Thanks. I never played a Wurlitzer theater organ. Only the piano

    3:33 On mine, I was able to confirm what that Yamaha literature points out: "Each lever slides from off to full with three easy-to-remember click-stops along the way, but each has continuous control for an infinite variety of possible tonal shadings."

    Unique sounds. Chick Corea had these sounds all over the Romantic Warrior album. It was almost more of a poly synth than an organ. He really didn't use the typical organ sound much. I'd love to find one.

    60s tranny organs sound sublime. 1977 was an odd time to decide to discontinue this, just when the New Wave was at its peak. Sales would have jumped x100 at any moment, and Yamaha would have had to scramble to keep up with the demand. Whatever cigar-chomping CEO was in charge then wasn't very hip, was he.

    The reference to the SK50D and the bass pedals. YC series used the BP-1 pedals. SK50D used the BP-2 pedals, which had a different pin out, but the connector was not compatible. I didn't find any info on whether later YC's used BP-2. I was looking around for BP-2 pedals for years for my SK50D, and considered looking for the BP-1 pedals until I found what the difference was. If you haven't, come visit my radlers channel for the SK50D demos. Overdue for newer ones.

    • @knobsswitches
      @knobsswitches  2 года назад

      Hi Rob, thanks for the info. Last I checked, the connectors can be used, but the PIN assignment has to be changed. But if that doesn't work either, that's good to know. In the meantime I also have a SK50D, of course also without pedal ;-) Otherwise I could have checked it.

    A bandmate of mine used to play a 45D through a 760 Leslie in the 70s. A transport nightmare, but sometimes sounding pretty close to a Hammond.

      yes, but the later SK-30 and SK-50D are much better for a Hammond Tone

    I own the YC-45D with black top as shown in the video. I bought it brand new some time mid seventies. I lived in Newcastle Australia at the time. I used to lift this thing on my own. It is no longer working and since I am no longer strong enugh to move it I don't see the point in trying to repair it even though I own the full Yamaha service manual. It is big, heavy and doesn't sound that great by comparison with my more modern instruments.

    Coole Orgeln, bin schon etwas länger auf der Suche nach einer "günstigen" YC45D. Bist Du in der Technik drin? Haben die YC's ähnlich wie die Hammond bis zu 9 Tastenkontakte oder eher das mit einem geregelt wie bei der Crumar T1 mit einem Schalter per Taste?
    Echt Wahnsinn, was die damals schon bauen konnten - beiendruckend!

    • @knobsswitches
      @knobsswitches  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hallo Reiner, leider habe ich überhaupt keine Ahnung von der Technik. Sorry. Ich kann nur sagen, das die YC´s sehr stabil laufen. Hatte noch nie Probleme mit Tastenkontakten. Ab und zu ist das Touch Vibrato bei einigen nicht mehr funktional. Das ist aber meistens nur ein Lampe die getauscht werden muss. Das war dann aber auch schon mein technische know-how ;-)

The two top cross beams seam like they should nest together but on mine they are exact same size so don’t fit together. Maybe missing a connector part? Thanks!
