      Agreed. I just bought a lilac Fawn stud with a Merle dad and a Fawn mother. Waiting to buy a girl next but want to be sure what kind i SHOULD get off i planned on breeding

      Alfredo Carrasquillo this is a tricky combination because most owners of lilacs, blues, etc prefer to not breed with a brindle because of the chances of its gene overpowering the other color.

    Please explain more in depth of why having 2 copies of a dominant gene would cancel each other out ? I always thought if something was dominant it would over power say the recessive gene ???

      Always breed Merle to non Merles get half merles. If you want grey both dogs have to at least carry blue

      100% isabella carriers
      100% co carrier
      50% lilac
      25% visible coco
      25% blue
      If mom is atat you get 25% non tri from dad ayat gene
      If mom is dd you get
      50% blue or chocolate /50% lilac
      All dogs will be “new shade producers” when bred back to a co bb dd.
      Hope I explained it well this is a breeding I’m doing myself with my co dd female to a dd bb visual Isabella. I won’t get any lilacs but I will still get “co carrying” new shade producers...

      Jeff Bridges kind of brindle is banding of the hairs so it effects black. Blue chocolate lilac and Merle’s
      And a single copy makes it show. I’m going to a video very soon on brindling

    I dunno if this is how it works in dogs because of the way pack animals work with line breeding the females generally pass on 75-80% of the genetics that’s why you need to line breed for a few generations to “tighten up” the males genotype. If it was always 50/50 line breeding would always be a crapshoot. I heard you say hopefully not his dad scatter breeding dogs to just random bloodlines screws up the genetics.
