San Juan del Sur is an incredible beach town on Nicaragua’s southwest coast. It’s known for a string of nearby Pacific beaches, such as Maderas Beach, with its strong-breaking waves, and the quieter Marsella Beach. A towering, contemporary Christ of the Mercy statue stands on a cliff above the bay. In this video Sabrina and I head out on a walking tour of San Juan del Sur and we climb the mountain to check out the Jesus statue.

We are looking for a retirement city. My wife grew up in Nicaragua and I grew up in Florida.
We both prefer cool weather so as much as we like an ocasional walk on the beach, we may have to head for the mountains. Going to go all over Mexico for starters and slowly work our way south down to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru , and Argentina.

What latin american country is your favorite to live in longterm 1 year lets say? I'm trying to decide between Nicaragua and Ecuador?.

We have not been to Ecuador yet, but a city like Cuenca us appealing to us….or Cotacochi . But, we prefer cooler weather. I think healthcare is also better and there is more to do.
There are so many great cities. San Cristobal de las Casas and Queretaro in Mexico, Antigua and Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, Arequipa Peru, Manizales Colombia. Check out Vagabond Awake for great videos.

Nice place with friendly people. I would get bored after a month or two, and in most of the country you really have to love soupy very hot weather.
