- After a month of taking apart our historic stone house,, we start the rebuilding process. Renovation is underway.
Thank you for joining us on the greatest adventure of our lives as we make our first ever home together. Our dream is becoming a reality.
We’re Meraid and Dan and we bought a small abandoned farm (quinta) 7500 m2 (approximately 1.8 acres) in the Coimbra district of Central Portugal in 2021.
We've been gardening and growing food for many many years. We absolutely love growing and eating and cooking what we grow and preserving surplus harvests for year round enjoyment.
We plan to restore and regenerate this beautiful terraced land back to the bountiful food forest and homestead it once was.
Meraid and Dan
Creating a home and building a future for yourself. What could be more rewarding? "Success is no accident" Keep up the good work.
Thank you 😊
I am absolutely buzzing with excitement for you…..The house is taking shape and everything seems to be going to plan. Cant wait for the next episode. 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you 😊
If you have the money and access to professionals, and DIY renovation is not your focus anyway, this is the absolutely best way to go! It'll go fast too... we hope.
I like your house plan 👌
It is what suits us because we are both working jobs as well.
The team you've got assembled can only be described as professionals. Keep up this amazing work you're doing!!
Thank you. Will do. 😊
Your new house drawings look awesome, no wonder you are smiling ❤
Thank you so much 😀
It will be great to see the team in action. There are many different projects with different paces around but this should be one of the quicker ones even with so much to do!
Hopefully 🤞
It must have been very difficult watching your housr being taken down...but. now comes the fun part ! Watching it become your home 😊
So true.
Hi Dan and Meraid, how wonderful it is to see all the progress done. The team you have are doing a great job. We enjoy seeing the progress. Can’t wait to see your next one! Stay well.
Thank you so much 😊
It is lovely to hear the sound of Portuguese from Portugal in your video. As a Brazilian who visited and adored Portugal, this video evoked nice memories of the times we heard these kinds of sounds.
They are helping me with words about building too. We’re delighted with their work and cheer.
I can’t believe how much has been done 😊
It’s great 😊
Those men are just amazing what a work ethic. Would wear out many young ones The foundation are looking very sturdy it's going to be a good house looking forward to the next thrillingly episode 😊
Thank you
Very nice job summarizing 4 weeks of prep and the first week of reconstruction. It seems you have a very good crew working on your project. No one moves like jackrabbits (I'm 71) but they work very steady and they all know what they are doing (except for the young fellow - first day on the job) If the young man pays attention, inside of 2 years he'll be well trained. Great opportunity for him.
One thing I see missing on your drawings is gutters. Thought I'd point that out now in the event there are decisions that will be made along the way that will make gutters problematic. You'll want to keep your stone walls free of moisture and I imagine you have a use for the rainwater that large roof will shed 😉👍
Have another wonderfully productive and rewarding week!
Thank you. Gutters are already planned even though they’re not on that drawing. Good spot.
@@NearbyVeggies I imagined you were way ahead of me - but I thought I'd point it out "just in case." I've been in the situation where I've had to ask a contractor, "but what about _______"? Only to hear "if it's not in the drawings - it doesn't exist". 👍
They seem like a great team of men. The way they moved that barrel like it was in their muscle memory was great to watch. x
They are excellent.
You are really doing a great challenge with this house; saving what can be saved, restoring what can be restored, doing everything eco, throwing nothing away what might be useful. Which is great! I wonder if more followers of your youtube channel, like me, would like to help you, financialy: because the choices you make are great, but certainly not the easiest and also not the cheapest. What do you think, happy followers?😁🥳
Thank you so much. We appreciate that.
So excited for you both your new home is going to be beautiful 😊
Thank you 😊
Incredible;) it makes me happy to see your happy faces, great neibourgs to work together
Couldn't agree more.
Brilliant video. Loved seeing the water guage used, all old style building work, a real grand design project . Say hi to the builders for me, definitely ths stars of this video.
Thanks, will do.
Wooooow, Meraid and Dan!! Have just finished binge watching all the vlogs and am so impressed with your work ethic!! Looking forward with great anticipation to the progress of the house build. Auckland New Zealand.
Hooray. Thank you for following our story and a big warm welcome.
Wow I have such great respect for you both for taking on such huge job I think I would go absolutely nuts. You are both amazing! Wish you all the best. A big hug from Sunny Florida 😊
Thank you so much!
Oh my, what a lot of work! Yours and theirs. I hope it’s not long you’ll be having a cup of tea or coffee and admiring your wonderful view.
We hope so too.
This is too epic. I cant comprehend.
You both looked refreshed and so excited !!!
Especially you Meraid😉
Can't wait for the next video
Get that drone up anlets watch the guys work an see if they get nervous lol keep them hopping things are going great👍
Thank you. Will do.
I was surprised that they kept working in the rain and mud. I really, really, appreciate the way you do numerous shots from different angles, along with the elevation and site drawings to show the progress and intended future of the house.
Much appreciated 👍
Wonderful changes, hard graft by all. Love listening to the workmen's banter. Sizzling tango music... great music selections.
Many thanks!
Such a huge undertaking, but so much positivity! You are such an inspiration. Thank you for that.
Thank you so much 😊
Progress going so fast! The new veranda will be so nice! A beautiful place to sit and be cool from the summer sun.
It really is!
Ah! Mairead and Dan you have reached the point of "max destruction", it's all uphill down from now on, Fantastic project!
At last. 😊
ii like that music reminds me when I was in the army in Portugal
Great.
I just love the work you are doing and can hardly wait to see the finished product , for myself . The last time I walked past the Property on the way to the little Town down the road , I did try to walk around the gate to the back of the property , but there were too many silvas and I was afraid of hiding snakes. Keep up the great transformation , greetings from Canada !!!!!!
That is awesome.
The destruction is complete and the reconstruction begins. It looks like you have a great crew doing the reno. 🙂👍👍🇨🇦
We’re delighted with the crew.
❤❤❤my favorite duo! It's impossible not to want to see more, the videos seem super short, Meraid, you're so charming, and if there's something I like about this story, it's the music they choose to edit it, so out of the ordinary, sometimes it's It feels like the Wild West 😊 and that makes it more fun. I'm glad I found them on RUclips because they are my favorite Saturday series!Ya queremos ver a Dan desfilando con esa camisa!😂
Muito obrigada 🤩
Could make a decent sunscreen work shirt, right?
Another great video with great explanations and an overview of the works. The drone shots were fantastic also and really puts it all into perspective. It won’t be too long before you are sitting on that new and improved verandah, glass in hand! Continue the good work. Pauline
Much appreciated.
Thank you for this impressive video. Great workers. They know they are famous now? All that work by hand with lots of respect. Lovely to see that. That will be the vibes and energy in your new/old house! Good luck next week! ( the Netherlands)
They are really patient with me filming too.
Looks like Dan's got himself a new wardrobe.
🤣
Wow! So much progress again, despite the rain! Those guys are really, really hard workers! Looking forward to your next video next sunday!
Next Saturday 😊
I never really got an idea of the enormity of this project until now. It is going to be a big house and indeed was a large house. You are now building a fortress!! It will last forever. I think you will need to reincarnate a couple of lifetimes to fully enjoy all the work you are doing. Watching with great interest. I love the stone European stone houses.
Thank you.
Wow! Wow! Wow! I have been away from TV and media for a couple of weeks and have enjoyed some binge watching to catch up. What terrific progress has been made! That is so exciting, and you must be extremely happy to see your patience rewarded in this way. Good luck as it progresses😮❤❤❤
Delighted to see your comments again, Ros. 🤗
This is such a monumental task! I know that you've 'got the men in', but you both have worked your fingers to the bone! Massive respect to you. ❤
Thank you 😊
It is so satisfying to see them put the level lines up and pouring the concrete. I can only imagine what it must be for you!
Congrats.
It feels like things are taking shape 😊
May the restructuring of the home be safe and successful!!😊
Thank you 😊
This is an impressive work you are doing supported by a hack of a team.
Looking forward for the next video. Good luck for the coming phases
Thanks a million
Yes the sounds of men working and talking reminds me of construction in Canada as the Portuguese built many projects in Canada with their skills with concrete and structure. Those footings will be around for many years if not lifetimes.
It’s lovely 😊
The plans help to see what is going to happen. A lot is going on. But now I can get a visual of your future home. It will be beautiful and built with love. My renovation is not any thing like yours. Although I have learned so much from yours, I am getting prepared. Thank you for sharing everything with us as always. Love from Italy Katie
Thanks for watching, Katie. Good luck with your renovations
Yay! Another video! I love watching your progress. Many thanks for sharing, and greetings from a chilly Devon!
Greetings from a soggy central Portugal
That’s amazing progress! We had weeks go by with no work going on at all. So impressed with your builders too, they’re even working in the rain! Wow 😂😂😂
The guys are made of tough stuff.
Соединение элементов арматурного каркаса сваркой - недопустимо. Особенно в сейсмоопасных районах.
Another great video! The house is moving fast... A lot to Go, and we're waiting to see the results.
You and me both!
Been waiting for this to start! I am so thrilled for you!
Thank you so much.
I am enjoying the videos rebuilding your beautiful house
More to come. Thank you 😊
yes te construction starting! the last wood pille for to burn when the rain stops. THE FUTURE IS STARTING happily
It is
Loving the progress and especially the granite steps. Think of the trudging up and down they have already seen and will see again ❤
Trudging? Skipping up and down like youngsters 🤣
Best builders ever so nice
Shame about the rain. We have had a huge amount on the east coast, with many fields under water, and my back garden like a bog. Hope the rebuild goes really well. Best wishes from Susan in East Yorkshire.
Thank you
Amazing job the builders are doing.💯💯💯💯. Looking forward to watching the next video. 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
Thank you so much 🤗
I liked your neighbours! What nice people☺️I wish you all the best!! So happy that some building/construction has already started!!🎉Can’t wait to see how your house will look like!!😍 Cheers from snow-covered Russia!
P.S. Could you also, please, share a bit of other daily/weekly routine: how you cook, some recipes maybe, your shopping in the town, eating out etc🤗
We have shared that in other videos. 😊
I dont know if you did understand but when Rui calls the boy in 0:35 the boy replied "É para beber o vinho do pipo?" wich means "Is to drink the wine of the barrel?". I found that answer very funny😂😂😂Love from the North of Portugal
I didn’t catch about drinking 😂 only the wine barrel. Thank you. I have so many laughs when I understand the gist of what the men say. They like to make fun of each other. 😊
Such hard workers! My heart 🫶 to the worker who was marking the level with a red pencil. M: you did a GREAT job with the camera and video editing! 👍🥰👍 Can't wait to see the finished veranda! Will it face South? ❣️
That’s Rui with the pencil. Thank you 🤗
Eline emeğine sağlık bu güzel vlog ve video için kolay gelsin hayirli işler bol bereketli kazançların olsun 👍👍👍👍
Thank you 😊
OMG ....you'd need those steele and concrete supports even if there was no threat of sismic activity ....the remaining walls look so fragile, it's scary Good progress, roll on Easter 🤞🤞
It sure does look sketchy
En videos anteriores me preguntaba para que serían esas jaulas que tenían😂😂😂😂. Increíble lo que se hace en condición hoy día para mantener estructuras hermosas y antigüas. Lindo sombrero Dan! 😅 saludos desde Argentina
Gracias ☺️
Venha o próximo episódio. Estou desejosa de ver a casa avançar! Adoro varandas viradas ao por do sol. Varandas mediterrânicas
Thank you 😊
Great Progress 👍
Thanks 👍
its a SONG LIKE THAT sarcomas the rain.
It is going to be beautiful!
Thank you 😊
Olha a tia Maria e o tio Manuel vieram dar uma ajuda a limpar a estrada..lol
That is some amount of stones!!!
It’s a lot.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your generosity. We really appreciate your extra support. 🤩
It's such a wonderfull job You've done already, it will be beautiful house! Following for a while, great videos! Greetings from Latvia!
Thank you 😊
Yeah👏👏👏
👍
Great progress 👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys, wonderful music and progress I am happy I found your channel 👍😊 and funny that you guys like all the old close 😂.
I’m not sure we like the clothes but it was fun finding them over the years.
Wonderful ! What does it mean to be passionate about what you do and an idea of life! Greetings from Romania ! I understand your passion perfectly! Good luck !
Thank you very much
Class job veranda will be massive👍🏼
Big enough for a table to share food and drinks with family and friends. 👍
I am sure that brand new shirt find will come up lovely when its had a wash lol! Can't wait to see you on your new veranda :) The old guys work like demons even though they look like they are on their last legs sometimes. Hurrah for finding such a marvellous crew and wonderful they are finding some young lads to pass their skills onto. Its wonderful that the rebuilding has finally started - onwards and upwards :)
I washed it but it’s pure nylon and almost see-through. It wouldn’t quite close on me and had a big faded square on the front. On a better note, as you say, the crew are wonderful 👍
That´s a lot of steel in that footings and pillars but we have a saying: " suffer the owner ..not the construcion" 😄
Absolutely 👍
Those wheelbarrows of wet cement/concrete mix are not light! Though they make them look easy to manoeuvre. Fabulous work going on. Thanks for the explanation of the veranda etc. 🙂
Thank you. Cheers.
wish for you it will continuie as they did untill now , see you soon🤩😘
Thanks Lieve, see you soon. x
Marvellous 😊
Thank you 😊
Parabéns pelo projeto! E, vocês já devem saber que uma obra como essa deverá durar "um pouco" mais do que o planejado: sempre acontecem coisas no meio do percurso. Estejam preparados, boa sorte - a casa vai ficar linda, vai valer a pena!!!
Thank you 😊
Very interesting to see the way things are done with this type of construction. The way they take the stones apart for the stairs makes me think what was holding them together was more the weight then the mud that was keeping them in place. Did Dan get the fire going in the end? I really like the drawing of the end result, The veranda that will be there looks lovely, I am sure you two will spend many happy hours there in the future.
We had to wait a while to get the fire going. It rained too much.
Olá , bom dia família 🌹😘🙏🇧🇷
😊
Love you guys❣️
Thank you 😊
Are you going to try to save and reuse the shirt? Maybe it will fit together with the coat! And I loved seeing the drawings of the future compared with the state of the present!
Shirt too small for both of us 🤣
Que excelente equipa que vocês têm 😊trabalhares tradicionais 😊 só foi pena de terem colocado o contador tão baixinho 😂😂 só com uma escada 😂😂
🤣
Love your colors, Meraid.
Are the 2 gents pouring mixes into the footings, 1 in blue jacket, the other in yellow jacket, related to one another?
Timely commentary, Dan. Down to bare bones, it's easier now to visualize the house plans.
Oh, maybe that wasn't tango music i heard, when the guys started working, maybe it was rhumba.
Thanks Ruth. The guys aren’t related and glad you enjoyed Rossini’s music. 🤗
Bom dia, gratidão por mais um vídeo desse trabalho lindo de restaurar história.Pouso Alegre. Minas Gerais.Brasil
Obrigada
Great progress has been made!❤
Definitely 👍
I would frame the shirt and give it to the Priest in town Maybe that was from the priest Maybe leaved in that house before.
It wasn't a priest's house. It was a farmhouse with a little chapel.
😊😊
😊
Just recently started watching your channel I'm so excited to see your home and how it will turn out. Sooo exciting!
Im Portuguese living in Canada with plans to renovate this little old home that we have in our little village in Portugal ❤ What is the name of this village where you are renovating your home if you don't mind me asking? Looks like a beautiful spot 👍
I've subscribed to your chanel We'll be watching with excitement for you both!!! ❤😊
Welcome along. 😊
Would love to know how you moved those granite steps, we have some similar and need them moved.
They moved them end over end. They are strong 💪
They are great workers. It is going to be beautiful. I notice on your plan that the new verandah is going to be 2.59m wide at it's narrowest point. May I ask how wide your previous verandah was in the seating area?
The veranda is about 1 m wider than before.
( at the narrow measurement )
@@NearbyVeggies That will be great!
O pipo é de boa madeira. Depois de tantos anos vazio está inteiro. Precisa de ser molhado
Obrigada
I would love to get those boards (tábuas) that i see in 3:10 (to put in my garden and give them a new live). Do you still have them and how can i reach you (i live near Moimenta da Beira).
Bei diesen Bildern kann ich als Fachmann nur mit dem Kopf schütteln. Die "Fachleute", die zu einer Rekonstruktion geraten haben müssten bestraft werden. Auch wenn die finanziellen Mittel der
Bauherren in diesem Fall unbegrenzt scheinen.
Es wäre schön am Ende der Arbeiten zu erfahren wieviel diese Aktion gekostet hat!?
A quick view where they used the jackhammer and revealed stone. That's beautiful stuff, dark blue with streaks. Granite? I've not seen any that colouring.
I'm in an earthquake zone too, it's great they've updated building codes and requirements, especially for buildings this old.
Are the rebar cages going up being covered in stone or something else?
Imagining that house all done by hand makes me tired just watching the guys working, even with machines. Stone castles were all done by hand tools and sheer manpower. Yikes.
The rock is like a slate. We’re not in a granite area. It’s what the house is built from.
What are you actually building there, a hotel?
👏🌟👍🍀💐
