Fisher and Paykel Induction Cooker Range Review 2023 36inch

- I couldn't find any great reviews of the Fisher & Paykel 36 induction cooker, so maybe this will help someone out there. I've never done a review, apologies for the amateurism. Not paid for this! UPDATE: A couple months in and LOVING it. New favorite things are the ability to set the timer to cook later and have dinner waiting for me when I get home. My transition to induction is also going well. There is no truth to rumors about inability to control the temp. At least with Copper Core All-Clad and Le Creuset, the heat transfer goes from chocolate melting (could never get that low heat on my gas stove) to power boiling (could never boil water so fast with gas) in milliseconds. And everything in between. Its also impossible to leave the burner on without a pot on, it shuts off. Really loving it. The glass is durable, I have not been babying it, no pads needed, not a scratch.
Happy cooking! Хобби
Thank you so much for the review! It is SO hard to find any user reviews on this range!
Thank for the info..trying out my new one as well and loving it
Super helpful - thanks for posting.
Thank you! I'm about to buy this exact cooker and haven't been able to see it in store. Your review is so helpful!
I'm so glad. Let me know how it goes. I just put an update in the video description, a few months in and loving it even more.
Great and honest review. Thank you! The F&P induction range just moved up the list.
Thank you for the review! It helped me making up my mind. I just received the F&P 30" white induction range, and I love it. ❤️
Tell us about it after a few weeks, I'd love to hear your experience with the 30"
These is an awesome video. First video I found that puts this range on full display. We just bought the duel fuel 30inch version yesterday. We happened to find it open box on a deep discount. If it wasn’t for that the induction would be TOP of list.
Yes thank you for this video 🙏🏽 it was very helpful the photos online doesn't do it any justice but this was perfect. I'm definitely going to get an induction range
happy cooking @preciousbey !
Thanks for the great video!
THANK YOU!
Girl ... THANK YOU!
This video was amazing and very helpful. I knew I wanted induction but wasn't 100% sure about the F-P. Now I am. Thank you! Oh and also the All-Clad pans!
@buck thanks for the feedback good luck choosing your range. One other thing i didn't mention that might be useful is that it comes with a plug and thus does not need hard wiring but needs a plug connection to wall. My electrician had prepped for hard wiring based on the range that I returned.
Re: All Clad pans. I've been told to go with the 3 ply all clad, the 5 ply rattle.
Im not sure what ply mine are but they defininitely do not rattle.@@Alexa-bt6xu good luck and let us know how well they work!
Thank you for your review!! My wife and I are about to buy a 30-inch version of this for one of our sons, and yes there aren't really reviews out there of this Series 9 range. His wouldn't have the paired zones feature of the 36, but it's still a super useful review. I'm about to send him the link.
with good cookware (ie cast iron) the heat should spread well enough to not need the pairs. Hope he likes it, what a lovely gift!
Nice job🙏🏻
Thanks for this review, super helpful! Would you be willing to measure top cooking space? Specifically, the black glass part without the stainless edges. I am curious overall how much room is up there. Thank you!
Your kitchen is awesome. I think you and I probably have similar styles, I personally like things close at hand. Julia Child's kitchen is a bit over-cluttered for me, but I like hers (I have some books detailing it!) and have used it for inspiration in my setup. I just cooked a multi dish meal last night for my family on 30" range and hated it. I feel like I need the 36" in my life. I'm also getting the F&P fridge, so figured I'd look at this too. Thanks for the review!
Hi kitchen sis! I can't wait to get the F&P dishwasher and fridge. thanks for the kind words. My kitchen is almost 100% moveable, other than the sink and stove. I make L shape and islands and put the dining table in there sometimes too. It stops me from being nomadic :) happy cooking!
Thank you for this video! We are in the market right now, replacing our 35 1/4" (Oi!) Ikea Whirlpool dual fuel range. Will have to cut a little bit of granite on both sides, but crossing our fingers!
There are not many good 36" induction range options with large ovens. Can you share the model number? Also, what else did you consider, and what made you choose the F&P?
Love your video, thanks so much for posting! Would you consider posting one about the oven functionality? We're thinking of replacing our ILVE/Hallman because the oven fan is so loud for so long, even after we turn the oven off the fan will keep going for 20-30 minutes. We're hoping the F&P doesn't do this. Thanks!
I had the same problem! See below, I go into it pretty deep in my reply to user-k12... Bottom line, while it still remains on (I think most fan ovens remain on a bit) It is much, much quieter than my Ilve was.
This video was super helpful, thanks for posting! You are so right that there are very few reviews of this fellah. (Almost think Fisher & Paykel *should* pay you because the photos don't do it justice. It looks much more impressive in your video.) Question: do you worry about scratches on the glass cooktop?
Edit: Also... what's the intended use of the top bar above the oven knobs? Thanks!
i did worry. but i kind of let it go after a few months. So far so good. I am "a little bit" careful. I dont use silcone pads or anything, but I don't drag diamonds across it :) @toddmorey5492
Thank you! Best real world information video I’ve seen! I’d love to see it with the le cruset and cast iron!
Any issues with liquids bubbling over and that causing problems?
I BUBBLE OVER CONSTANTLY, no issues. There is apparently a way to set it so that it shuts off with spills, but I don't use that setting. thanks for the feedback!
@@SBChannel688thanks for the respone. I want to change out old electric stove for induction but concerned about bubbling over turning off the cooktop automatically. I wouldnt like that b/c im an avid cook and sometimes messy. I use mostly le creuset and cast iron and i like the odd shapes like the oblong cookers and heart shaped pan ❤ i hope you do more cooking demos! Thank you!
Big thank you for your review. Just wondering does the vent in the front get very hot, does it heat up the knobs or other areas? Is it safe to hang a tea towel on the top rail when the fan is going and also any idea what the purpose for the top rail is for?
Not at all. Well, I guess I should say not at all compared to the range I had temporarily between my vintage O'Keefe and Merrit and this F&P. That one was hot, loud and blew smoke up to my face. It was horrid and I finally was permitted to exchange it for this one. This one actually vents out the front sides, not the middle. And it isn't terribly hot. I think the top rail is for towels and such but its a great question, I don't use either rail very much bc I didn't have them on my last stove. I should figure that out. Adding answer to your question about towels, it's not an issue, it's just not that hot. I don't hang towels on it often tho.
It’s crazy that this is the only customer review video I can find of the exact line I’ve been looking at. I have to get a 30” and have been trying to find ANY info about the size of the inside and if it can fit a half sheet pan (standard big sheet pan for a home oven), but there just isn’t any info. The photos online make it look smaller than it actually is apparently…your information about the size of yours confirmed that the 30” will fit a half pan, Finally! Looks way better in your video than in the few pics of the range online as well. Moving into a new place soon and the range is the most important thing in a home for me. It’s a rental, but the current range is electric and one of those extremely dated ugly white ovens with the dials along the back. Unfortunate because the kitchen is beautiful. Might have to upgrade it which is crazy to do for a rental but it’s definitely something I’d take with me to future homes. Thanks for the great review! Definitely considering the splurge now. Do you have any other F&P appliances? I’d LOVE to upgrade the fridge and dishwasher too…lol. I upgraded an old rental with a 20+ y/o white (turned yellow) fridge to a slim fit stainless F&P fridge and absolutely loved it. Found it used for $500 from someone renovating their home. Never had an issue with it, but had to leave it.
i think it will! But mine is the 36, so I hope that was clear. I am most definitely going for the F&P dishwasher next. Thanks for your feedback about the fridge, I just got a smeg (my fridge spot is really small). If we remodel I'll look at the fridge. If I had a rental, as I have had so many times, I would go for the 30 range. It will be a splurge but you can take it with you, like you said. Much luck and happy cooking!
@@SBChannel688 thanks! I wish I could find the internal oven measurements online but they don’t list them. I think there’s an appliance store in town that carries them so I might go down to measure. I do a lot of baking so being able to fit a standard half sheet pan is essential for me! I thought about a Smeg but definitely need a little more room. The F&P slimline fridge is great for tight spaces and the fridge held a lot (lots of door space too), but the freezer is TINY. Granted it’s bigger than a smeg, just a poor use of space in my opinion. There’s one rack in the freezer that literally is made for a single frozen pizza box…you can’t get much else on that shelf ha. Thankfully the current range in the rental is 30” so that will help me save some $$$ too
We have the FP double drawer dishwasher and love it! Size works well for us, a family of 3. Space between racks is limiting for anything not flat. We don't mind washing these items (eg larger bowls) by hand. We do everything on short cycle - 38 minutes, quiet - all clean and dry! @@SBChannel688
Hey @@Mads33 I've also been trying to better understand the internal oven measurements of the 30" - did you happen to measure them? If you did buy the 30" I'd love to hear about your experience with it! Thank you
Thanks so much for the video. It seems like a great range but I am very concerrned that it vents out the front. I often make lots of smoke when I'm broiling or roasting at high heat. What happens for you? Does the smoke fill up the room or does it somehow get to the vent?
Hi There, I talked about this a lot in comments below. It vents out the sides of a front vent, not from the middle so it really doesnt bother me at all. haven't smoked anything up too much yet, so I can't speak to that. But I like having the top clear of venting, personally.
Thank you so much for this review! So helpful! Are you still liking it? Any issues? Also, did you need to update electricity to accommodate an induction stove?
No negative issues and it's been a year. I love it more and more. I rented an airbnb with a gas stove recently and somehow I've been compltely converted to induction. I couldn't get the gas low or high enough to do what my induciton can do. Re the electricity...We had a gas stove before so we needed to have an electrician install 240 outlet (bigger than a regular outlet in the USA). One small thing is that at some point I need to figure out how to clean between the two window panes of the glass over door. It's still fine after over a year but in a couple years I'll need to get in there. Manual says call a professional...
awsome. To protect the glass you may need to invest in a induction matts that go between the pot and the glass.
I am so curious about this bc i hear people do this but that would drive me absolutely nuts with kids and guest. too much explaning! Did you experience scratching on your glass top? I gotta say, it's been about 4 months and I am ROUGH, very rough, on this glass, as are the teenagers. Not a scratch. I did need to get some "barkeepers friend" glass cooktop cleaner for times when the kids don't clean it right away and windex wasn't enough. That stuff (cooktop cleaner not the scrub cleansers) is great bc it doesn't scratch but it gets off the tougher smudged.
Is there a precision temperature option for the induction burners? I have a portable unit that lets me select 200F, for example, so soups don't boil over while at temperature.
this has three simmer settings and the lowest could sit all day with butter on it, i think. you have a lot of control but not numeric.
did you get the griddle finally? curious about if you can see where the magnets are when cooking something like pancakes.
@julielove8319 The griddle is fantastic,! It covers two zones that are paired (you can use the right or left paired rectangular zones). The whole surface of the griddle heats evenly and since the griddle is just a little smaller than the paired rectangular zone, the entire surface is evenly heated. Hope that answered what you're asking!
Are you still loving your FP induction range? Love the look of the range, and functionality. How’s the reliability been now that you’ve had it a while?
Thanks!
I love it still! It gets a TON of work on it, got us through the first holidays with an amazing turkey, I used the "roast" function and I was so afraid to leave it uncovered bc my old oven would burn the outside. This was honestly perfect. I still don't have any issues with the induction glass (induction from gas was my biggest fear when I got it) but one of my biggest tips is buy good cookware. I wanted an additional larger (12 inch) fry/sautee pan and I cheaped out on one with a little bit smaller induction bottom instead of going with my copper core all clad which inducts up the sides, it really (of course, I'm stupid) didn't heat the edges of the pan at all. When you buy this range, you need to buy the cookware. Mostly, I use my le creuset cookware more than ever, just love it with the induction. Made a slow chili today!
Looking to buy 36in induction range and have been seeing other brands problem with the loud oven fan. Have you been using the oven and experience with the fan noise? Thank you for your review
Thanks for the comment. I do a long thing below on the fan noise in response to user-k12. In sum, the unit has a fan oven, no way around that...but it is a relatively quiet one and the result is worth it.
We have the same Freestanding induction Cooker, however it is in Stainless Steel. Excellent overview. It is a wonderful unit. Do you know how to clean in between the glass panels on the oven door? There seems to be nothing in the manuals or on the internet. Fisher and paykel want you to use their service agents to clean the door?? It should be easy for anyone to do but it isn't. Open to any suggestions?? Thanks.
This is SUCH an important and great question. When i used the "self clean" for the first time, a little teeny tiny piece of something was blown between the glass panes. No one in the universe would notice it but me. One day, I will need to figure this out because my house is in upstate NY with ZERO service people. I will need to learn how to do this myself..but I have learned to do many other things that one man came and fixed before. I'd rather have the man but I am a close second!
also, if you do it, please comment so I can learn!
I am trying to find information about the location of the magnets and the number of them. Both Thermador and Wolf provide graphics of what it looks like under the glass top. Do you happen to know on the FP? Can you please share your experience with evenness of browning. On a single burner? Do you get light spots if the pan overhangs? And one more question - the temp controls on oven looked like 25 degree increments. Can you set oven to 360? Much appreciate your video and advice!
you are correct, the oven is in 25 degree increments, but you can adjust cooking by setting for example only the top element and putting your dish in the bottom rack ect. I dont know the magnet positioning but the "pairing" is seamless in the sense that I do not notice the 1/8 inch space between elements. One reason I can probably cook with things hanging off the edge of the element is I use highly conductive cookware. Sorry that I can't be of more help.
Thanks so much for your response...... A couple of other questions. How long does it take your oven to preheat to 400? FP chat told me all service is through their own employees. Have you used their service? Were you satisfied? @@SBChannel688
just timed it. on aerobake it is 8 mins to 300 degrees and 13 mins to 400 degrees. I needed to get a range that would be unlikely to need service due to where I live, so that was the bulk of my research...fingers crossed! @@Alexa-bt6xu
I hear different warranties specs from different sources. Is it 2 years for this range?
not sure, i had to forgo it due to where i live.
Thank you for the awesome review, so helpful! I've read multiple complaints online about the oven cooling fan being extremely loud - has that been your experience?
Great question! Its a bit of a story for me. I had to let go of my vintage 1950's O'Keefe and Merritt bc of emissions, and I tried to replace it with an well known vintage-looking gas range Italian brand (don't want to call them out by name, I'd feel bad). I was trying to get the vintage look that i loved in my old range. It was a nightmare. The doors were crooked, the fan was so loud, during and long after cooking and on all settings, I could barely hear the TV. Plus, burners wouldn't light, it just didn't work for me. After a year the appliance company thankfully allowed me to exchange it and I went completely the other direction with F&P, super modern. I was so nervous about induction that didn't even think about the oven fan issue when I bought the F&P. On the Aero Bake (fan) settings there is a very low hum for about 10 mins. It isn't bad at all. Don't get me wrong, the fan stays on a couple minutes, but it is nothing in comparison to the other brand. I barely hear it. I have an open concept living space and I barely notice it. For me, it's worth it for what the fan cooking does to salmon and baked dishes. Crispy on the outside and perfect on the in. In sum, I'd say the fan is very very mild. My favorite thing about the oven, though, has been the ability to delay the start of the oven so that dinner is waiting for us at the end of the day. THE BEST.
@@SBChannel688 Thank you so much, this response is incredibly helpful. F&P should hire you because this video (and your response) has pretty much sold me on this range! :)
@@SBChannel688 Thank you so much for this review! I read similar reviews about the cooling fans being loud and none of these ranges are hooked up to power in the showrooms so it's so hard to find out what it actually sounds like before you buy! Do you hear the cooking or cooling fan on other oven settings, other than Aero bake? Does the cooling fan stay on for a long time even after you are done using the oven? I've read that it stays on for up to one hour for some other brands. Thank you so much. I have been researching induction ranges for weeks and am down to F&P v. Electrolux, so this is extremely helpful!
@@chantalforfota1616 Thanks for the feedback. its very mild, and yes. It does come on on all settings that i have used, but i would say its only on about 5 mins after shut off for most, the aero bake a little bit longer. It is not so loud that I even notice when it shuts off. You might hear it if you're eating at a kitchen island but not at a dining room 20 feet away, even in open concept. I would describe it as much quieter than other brands I have seen (and owned as described above). But, I want to be clear, it fans. Due to the way fan ovens work, fans come with this implication. After using it now for 2 months, it's totally worth it (to me) for the cooking, i don't even notice it now, ever! I have never made so many delicious roasted items and lasagna/casserole. You can kind of hear it in the video. I hope I'm doing it a fair treatment, but it probably depends on your tolerance bc it is not silent. I have never seen it fan for more that a few mins, or never noticed it. It might help to know that bc of the quietness of the stove I am thinking about getting the dishwasher once I pay this one off. The dishwasher is apparently known for its quietness and I can't wait for the drawer style. Good luck! I'd love to know what you decide.
Just did a test! Had to know. from a fully heated Aero bake oven, it took 25 mins for the fan to be completely silent. I have honestly never noticed it took this long, it's not loud and gets quieter and quieter as it cools. You cannot hear it over a running faucet or a kettle burning..
The stove top doesn’t heat well. Does the stove top with the concentric circles (two circles) make more heat?
My stove top does heat well, but I have a friend with a different brand and hers doesnt enable the same range of temp on the dish (soooo low to melt choc to extremely fast heat). It's really impressive. The different areas dont "make heat" in the same way that BTU's work. My model is one where all of them give off a lot of power, and they do different things if you check out the manual. Im actually glad you reminded me because I went to look again, I had forgotten! The big middle on has two zones to save energy if you are only needing a small center zone.
Can 14 by 16" aerobake cookie sheets fit in the oven?
yes, the racks are 15" X 27"
Does the roasting pan fit on the shelf guides or does it need to sit on a shelf?
it sits on the oven rack
What are the dimensions of the roasting pan?
14.5 x 25 inches
Thank you
could you do me a favour and give me the inside dimemsions of the oven. Length, width and depth. All I can find is 4.9 cu ft. Nice video..induction works excellent.
sure! Fair question. In inches.16 deep (though maybe a tiny bit more could fit with door closed), 30 wide, 14.5 top to bottom
@SBChannel688 I really really appreciate this video. I'm struggling with wanting to get this oven (we need a replacement), but I'm really nervous that the capacity will be smaller than my current oven, and my wife has been frustrated with that being too small. It doesn't seem to be available in any local showroom to check out in person, and I feel like I can't get a reliable measurement from any online source.
Are those measurements for the usable space, or is that the entire oven capacity, top to bottom? An appliance salesman I've been corresponding with about this said he measured a comparable F&P gas oven - he doesn't have the induction one in stock - and reported: "The racks’ usable space is 28” width by 13” depth. As far as maximum clearance for height, you would have 10 ½” from the rack set on the lowest oven rack position up to the underside of the broiler." Does that sound right to you?
Beautiful range but you are not going to love it so much when the induction generator fails. The average lifespan is about 36 months and the repair is expensiove. Thats the big drawback to induction.
Takes 2 minutes to lift over cover and troubleshoot which unit has malfunctioned. Everything fails eventually...that's how everything is made these days.
You are so beautiful
it is indeed a gorgeous appliance.😍
