      Someone else probably sold the program to her as being "good for you because..." with a lot of platitudes.
      Years ago, someone professionally proposed to me that I could have my credentials (which are difficult) and also get a CFA and be able to work in the same environment that CFAs do, and have far stronger analytical skills. I had no interest in it, and I asked the crediting group if there was a difference in pay between CFA and people with both credentials, and at the time, the answer was "no". Sounds like a bad idea, then. I'd bet the other CFAs would find it humorous to have someone boasting about their credentials to which they could respond ..."good for you, we make the same salary. I think I would've played golf".

    Her doctorate in nursing degree isn't costing her $300,000. I'm certain that includes her undergraduate loans and the fact that she has been living off her graduate student loan money because she isn't working full time. How do I know? Because I did the same when I went to graduate school for physical therapy. My tuition for those 3 years was $55-60K but since it was a full time program I didn't/couldn't work full time and I lived off an additional $55K of my student loans for 3 years! I learned about Dave Ramsey soon after I graduated. Now I have $39,000 of my graduate student loans left to pay off!

After getting the doctorate (3 years after getting the Masters for NP) , her career didn’t change at all. If anything, it made it worse. By law, they have to pay a person based on their degree. It’s causing her job to continue to choose cheaper RN/Masters NP over her when scheduling work so she has massive problem getting hours. The debt from the doctorate is advancing more than her pay. Would have been way better off just working as an NP and actually used the Masters to be an NP. This lady, if she must get a doctorate, consider teaching.

Second, I agree with Dave that the Doctorate degree is useless for NP's & PA's (I'm a PA). I think it's just for the schools, so they can make more money. As far as I've seen with current jobs, there is no requirement of a Doctorate degree, and the pay is going to be the same as it is for someone with a Masters. Also, why wouldn't you just get an M.D. if you're going to get a Doctorate? As you can tell from this call, when she was questioned why she's going for a Doctorate, she didn't have a good answer... because there isn't one! My daughter makes 100k plus as an RN straight away after getting her bachelors. How could her debt be so high when she said she was working as an RN before

    Never go in debt for college future students, it is the 2nd biggest financial mistake you will ever make. The 1st biggest financial mistake is who you "choose" to marry. Choose wisely!

      Why is it important who you choose to marry?

    • @robertgray320
      @robertgray320 5 лет назад +4

      @@AnImperialGod Because of their spending habits, financial discipline, investing habits or lack of financial literacy as a whole. Its a mistake you dont want to make, there are some horror stories out there you don't want to go through. Do your research on finances and marriage an how it can stress and hinder a marriage. Happy hunting.

    She needs to go to school part time and work full time and pay cash for this degree. Lots of hospitals offer tuition reimbursement and she could get some of this school paid for. Dave is right, absolutely absurd to get into this much debt as a doctoral NP.

    There’s no difference between a nurse practitioner and a nurse practitioner with a phd. She’s paying thousands of dollars just so she can call herself a doctor LOL.
