  • Dear Friends
Malaysia is a food paradise, you can find hidden gems in places you least expect. When it comes to the choicest locations that bears these fantastic food, we all have our preference of that specific town. The general consensus is probably Malacca, Penang or Ipoh. Talking of Ipoh, my Ipoh episode turned out to be my most popular blog with close to 3 hundred thousand viewers. So for this episode I’m returning to Ipoh to see what other vendors I can tap on. To make my job easier, I decided to head to its neighbor, Menglembu. As far as I’m concerned, Menglembu is one heck of a hidden gem for street food. This feature doesn’t do justice to what they‘re offering cos there are many more vendors which I had limited time to feature, but my list on this episode will be a head start for you, whereby you can move on to explore further. Meanwhile, go out and support the local street food, be it in Menglembu or otherwise.

Elmo, I have been following your channel for awhile eventhough my Cantonese is not good. I like that you are informative about the places you covered. I do have one suggestion for you though. Improve your videography of the food you are featuring. You need to let the videos of the dishes do the talking rather than just your explanation. For me, I need to be salivating when watching food videos. 😉

A trip to Marn Ning Moong with great delicacies from local Yeong tau foo + Noodles to Siew Yoke to Vietnamese Bahn Mee -> roti canai -> western breakfast ala localized made -> traditional Red bean bun --> SPECIAL big bowl curry mee + ingredients @ TMN Mas -> dessert ice kacang + original ( no -nonsense ) Tai - Kau Meen !!! Great spread of local dishes featured at Marn Ning Moong. Had a good laugh when being told off by a "senior elderly" with the reply " you can't see ..... you blind ....there's no one at this table " and glad at your empathy to that comment to the Uncle in his 70's. Yatt Lau ! Mou Tatt Deng !!! A great food haunt indeed and thank you very much Elmo. 👌👌👌

Ha ha ... you are so accurate , even my grandfather will forbid us to venture into " gangster" area like pasir pinji , buntong . Wah Chai seafood has been in Menglembu for a long time , very famous since 1980s. Ipoh has many great food locations , next trip back ... we know where to go , thanks to you . Incidentally we sample 2 places that is also selling great siew yuk , one is at pasir pinji market an old couple will be selling opposite the wet market usually starts around 2pm and Tmn Ipoh Timur kopitiam , this guys who is the 3rd generation sells siew yuk & charsiew that really has the 70s-80s taste starts around 1pm . Keep up the great work Elmo !

Thank you for your recommendations and love the part where you make an effort to list down the full address of the places that you recommend which not a lot of people will do. Very nice . Elmo thank you for your editing and your commentary . I come from Menglembu but now live in London . Yes you are right back in the days no one dared to ever come and cause trouble . I remember the days when people could not even go into the food court in the market . Lol but the same people in the market could not go to wai SEK kai . My grandfather was the first postmaster of Menglembu and the he owned a lot of land . The land was confiscated of him by the British to create the " regrouping area" . I'm sure some of you guys must have of it . Anyways new subscriber .. looking forward to watching more of your videos . Love from London

Thanks Elmo for sharing. Menglembu is place for good and cheap food. Brings back very fond memories. There is a Wan Tan Mee stall that sells at night on the main street which has passed down two or three generations. There are also few other stalls that sells very yummy hawker food at night. Thanks for sharing.

Roasted pork in Menglembu is famous but I haven't got a chance to try it out yet. A friend of mine whenever he passed by Ipoh on his way back from his original home town in the north would stop over Menglembu pasar for his favorite roasted pork. Maybe it's so good that never he offers me a bite of it, so bad! Talk about roti canai, from my personal standpoint I prefer the Malaysian ones than what I had tried in Singapore, well taste is something very subjective as what we have emphasized before.
