It does feel like the series will come to an end right after one struggle to get Kafka to turn back. If it's done in a satisfying way though, I'll be happy. Extending stories past where the author originally intended to end them, typically ruins the story in the long run.

Agreed. This story along with Pochi Kuro are very enjoyable stories.
