  • The 1/72 scale MiG-17 PF from AZ models is not the easiest kit to build... by far! In this series I am going to try and create a presentable scale model to complement what I already have in my 1/72nd scale, Bulgarian Air force jet age collection.
in this first instalment I am going to fight with the wing assembly. We are going the cockpit all buttoned up, painted and weathered.

I have an AZ MiG 17F 'Fresco'. I noticed similar issues with the cockpit but had some problems with the wings in that the pieces seemed to fit together across panel lines instead of along them. I persevered with it but gave up after I discovered that the tail fin was warped. I still have it part made in its box and might finish it off at some point. Looking forward to seeing your's finished !

I hope you do the zvedza 48th SU25 in Bulgarian camo. I have an article in a magazine where A10s were training with Albanian su25s in Albania. Their camo schemes were pretty rough looking but cool.

It’s looking nice! Like the oil paint and panel liner edging work and impressive wing fixes.

Your tip about adding the powder to the ça was excellent! It doesn’t set as hard as ça and Baking Soda?

Such a rare subject and great work! And I can only admire your decision not to buy new kits. Every time I look at my pile of shame, I think about how many subjects are still missing there :)

You should probably fill the gaps with putty or slow setting epoxy, or fill the area where it doesn't fit and flood that area with putty and allow the part to be pushed down to cause the putty/epoxy to fill those gaps...

That cockpit really is a lot better than the pretty poor mouldings at the start! Great job on that wing too.

Great job on this short run kit, they always present a few problems along the way and solving them is half the fun!

Hi Metodi, very nice build so far and I’m looking forward to the next episode. Also, hope to see the MiG-17 next year live in Sofia at the annual model show. Until then, happy modeling 🤠! P.S. Love the БВВС subjects builds.

Make sure to put A LOT of weight in the front. My MiG 17 from couple of years ago is an awful tailsitter.

as modellers we are pretty spoiled with modern high quality kits that have near perfect fit and finish, its nice to build older kits once in a while
