Oh WOWSERS! so so BREATHTAKING :-) your Oncidium sotoanum is truly absolutely so GORGEOUS and the blooms are the most INCREDIBLE of flower displays, just like an entire universe of beautiful pink coloured stars, this has to be one of the most beautiful Orchids that I have ever seen, so so truly beautiful and breathtaking :-) Happy anniversary of your channel Rachel :-) your channel is AMAZING and wow! the year has absolutely flown :-) Thanks so much for sharing such a beauty Rachel and sending you tons of love and flower power from Waterford to Wexford for a BRILL Sunday today XXXXX
+heartfullofhappiness Hi Lyn. Can't you sleep either? lol. Thank you for all your great wishes. You have been supportive of me right from the beginning and I really appreciate it. Hopefully my next orchid video will be about a new one - don't want people to think the channel is too predictable. lol.
+Orchids & a Dutchy Thank you, Andrea, and welcome back and I hope your Dutchie is on the way to a full recovery. I only had time to watch half your video this evening but will catch up tomorrow.
It's truly stunning. I guess I have a long wait until mine grows to specimen size like yours. But you know even at the small size mine is, it is a wondrous delight. Thanks for showing it to us again.
i just got this one last february. it's currently in bud for me and i hope it manages to survive here in the hot climate of the Philippines. i love your videos and this particular one is gonna be helpful for me and my new plant. wish me luck!
Rachel I am so glad you posted this wonderful Oncidium. I am an oncidium grower, for a year and a half or so and have killed them more than not, trying to learn how to care for them. I am such an underwaterer perhaps I should grow Cattleyas! Anyway, I have an Oncidium Rex van Delden "Pink Bees" that looks very similar to the sotoanum, but it's parents are Onc. Fuscatum and Onc. Incurvum. I love your channel, love seeing the Cattleyas... I think our climate is similar, I am in Ohio in the USA. Lots of love to you, Anne
+Yamazakura Garden Hello Anne. It's lovely to hear from you and I'm glad you like the channel. Oncidiums are so rewarding but you have to get the right recipe. If you're an underwaterer, try adding some extra sphag and perlite to the oncidium mix.
Congratulations on the one year anniversary of your channel, it's been wonderful get to watch it full circle, and I have too thank you so very much for sharing this beautiful Oncidium. And then I must admit that from the moment I saw it I know I had to have it, didn't know it had hade a name change until about two months ago when I saw it under its old one in a web shop and of curse I got it after I'd done some research. Best of wishes and hope you have a wonderful day.
+Olivia stoltz Thank you for all your good wishes, Olivia, and congratulations on your oncidium purchase. You will never regret buying that little beauty. Have a great day.
Super specimen!!!,it really likes your climate!!! Just for the record, the name of the other species "ornithorhynchum" comes from the greek words "όρνιθα"(ornitha) means chicken and "ρύγχος"(rhynchos) means muzzle!!!
+Savvas Simitsis Thank you. Interesting about the Greek origin. The real O. ornithorhynchum is yellow in colour so I wonder has that to do with 'chicken'.
I love that. Can we start calling them old fashion orchids or heirloom yet. All these Frankenstein NoID plants are scary. .....10 spikes that's amazing..Great job... Cooler temps. would be? I am a manly man. But i love that color pink..LOL ,,,,,That's going on my Spring wish list. It's fall here also.. 28 degrees this AM.. Have a great day
+Bret Furgason Ha ha. Frankenstein orchids :) Actually, I've come to appreciate unnamed crossed more since joining RUclips. I think there is a greater abundance of unnamed crossed in US than Europe. Before, whenever I bought, I bought a species or named orchid because I always wanted to know exactly what flowers I would get! However since viewing videos like Brittany's or Isis' I've come to realise that something unique and beautiful might well result from a cross and, besides, isn't an element of surprise exciting? Now I look out for them more. Have a great day, you too :)
The plant and flower spikes are very impressive but wow fertilizing once a week? what is the formula of that fertilizer, I didn't catch the name that is doing so well with no flashing I guess?
+fifi fifi The fertiliser is Akerne Rain mix, Corina. I am sure you can look it up if you want to. The instructions say no flushing is required but I have recently started flushing once a month as I need to do this anyway for the epsom salts that I add.
I didn't even know they changed / corrected the name. The flowers sort of resemble birds in flight so I always thought Ornitho..., which means pertaining to birds was appropriate. I have a few sizable Twinkles but have never grown the parent species. Twinkles seem to do best when kept tight in the smallest pot possible. I don't know if that is true for the species. I have come to appreciate the delicate, often subtle beauty of species plants not altered by the hand of man more and more.
+John OBrien Yeah, it's doing well but it's hard to find a sheltered enough place outdoors in summer and I had not intended it to be a giant house plant. lol.
Hi Rachel, I so loved this orchid in this video of yours that I went and got one for myself, too (found it under its old name). I got lucky, the nursery did not say it was blooming, so I got to enjoy its flowers and its scent after arriving. It has 6 pseudobulbs, started to grow a new one, its about 5 cm now, but my problem is it needs to be repotted very soon, I am afraid to wait for spring, the new growth will be out of the pot by the time and do not want to damage the new roots. Is yours growing new pseudobulbs now? When will you repot it? Also, mine has a linear growing pattern and one direction to grow, I am thinking about deviding it at half to have more growing direction. What do you think? 3 psb is enough for new growths to start? Does yours also grow only in one direction? What potting medium will you use? Thanks for your answer in advance! Have a nice day! (still Irish weather over here:))
+Agars & Orchids Hi there. Congratulations on your purchase. I love this orchid! My plant has about 12 pseudobulbs. It doesn't make new growths at the back. So far this year it has only one new pseudobulb coming but I think it also makes new growth at the sides (but I'm not 100% sure as only one pseudobulb is up so far). I pot it in small/merdium bark with sphag. I will repot mine in about a month as it does need a bigger pot and besides I've promised someone a division. If yours is in desperate need of repotting (and obviously in strong growth), I would do it now. Hope this helps.
Well, that's a good question. I had a look at my plant and it only has two spikes so far this year, both off the new pseudobulb, either side. I don't know if it might spike off older pseudobulbs from a side that hasn't spiked before :/
I just bought a seedling size plant . Can u please share complete care of this . The orchid seedling Is orchid sotoanum . I don’t want to kill it. Thanks
I think this oncidium is so beautiful! The twinkle has a lot of its characteristics. I just love all those sprays of flowers! Out of curiosity is it a slow bloomer like the twinkle? It's such a game of patience waiting for mine to bloom but I've heard a lot of people say it takes forever to bloom haha! and the wait continues. :)
OMG! Praise the Lord. You have the species parent plant of Onc. Twinkle and Sphacealatum. How? Where can one aquire tgat species plant? I already acquired a Onc. Sphacealatum.😊
Now, just that you know, you are at fault, that somehow a young sotoanum suddenly appeared on my orchid table, looking gorgeous ... well, not as gorgeous as yours. So far, it's a nice green plant. But I wonder. Do you happen to know how an "early" flowerspike of this looks like? Because the little one has pointy nubbin coming from in between its lowest leaves, quite flat, about 1,5 cm tall - now, I don't really dare to hope, but maybe ...?
Best orchid decision I ever made. Great, easy, vigorous species. I was in heaven when it bloomed - that fragrance is so damn good, I was getting drunk on it like a bee in a cactus flower (ever seen a bee/bumblebee in a highly fragrant cactus flower? It is hilarious, they are freaking out - at least they did in my mother's cacti :D )
Hello, I bought this orchid because of your video, I had to get it from Europe since it is not sold in the US so much, and I have to say this plant never disappoints it already has a spike Thank you
Lovely little flowers! 10 spikes, that's amazing! Thanks for sharing!
+draco003 Thank you for watching.
What a specimen. Lovely. Thanks for sharing Rachel.
+SHARON SHORT Thank you, Sharon.
Oh, I love this Oncidium, it's already on my wish list! :) Thank you for sharing!!

Just Stunning!! I have to find room for one of these for sure. I have the white and pink twinkles but this is breathtaking.
+Jackie Binkley I think all the Twinkles are just gorgeous. This is one more to add to the list :)
It is so dainty and beautiful. I love it .

I am drooling over this orchid. You should make a update video.
There have been lots of updates since this video was made. Just search for 'Douentza sotoanum' on RUclips
SHE IS GORGEOUS!! Amazing Show ❤️
+growing obsession Thank you. I love her too
How beautiful: ) I will definitely put it on my wishlist. Congrats for the flowers: x
+Ana Maria Clapon Thank you
Stunning plant! Your voice is so soothing. I love your accent :)
+oogalaboo Ha ha. Where is your accent from? You are not Canadian, are you?

Beautiful oncidium and yes you are forgiven for talking twice about it since it's a lovely one! Just kidding, it's a joy to watch it even more!
+MaryG Orchids Thank you :)
Oh I love this flower very much. Thanks for the video😍
You are very welcome
Ok, I was asking because I saw you had 10 spikes and thought it was because the old bulbs bloomed as well. Thank you!
It could have been that some of the old pseudobulbs only bloomed on one side previously. But I never checked.
very beautiful one
thanks so much
+mohannad al madanie Thank you for watching. Such a sweet scent too :)
FANTASTICO DISPALY .. 10 steli

If I can find room. LOL. Your big begonia looks like it has recovered from your vacation. :)
+John OBrien Yeah, it's doing well but it's hard to find a sheltered enough place outdoors in summer and I had not intended it to be a giant house plant. lol.
Success in the plant lovers world can present its own set of problems. Oh well.

oh wow, beautiful! how long does it take to grow that big?
Hard to say as it was a mature plant when I was given it. Thanks for watching.
I just bought a seedling size plant . Can u please share complete care of
this . The orchid seedling Is orchid sotoanum . I don’t want to kill it. Thanks
I think this oncidium is so beautiful! The twinkle has a lot of its characteristics. I just love all those sprays of flowers!

+Rosanna Rodarte The sotoanum does take a long time to bloom but I can't really compare it to Twinkle as I've only bought my first Twinkle this year.
OMG! Praise the Lord. You have the species parent plant of Onc. Twinkle and Sphacealatum. How? Where can one aquire tgat species plant? I already acquired a Onc. Sphacealatum.😊
Sorry, no idea where you can buy one
I'm in Texas U.S. and can not find this plant do any of you know where I can buy this? thanks
Wow..the parent of onc mini yellow twinkle
Is your fragrance intense enough to scent a stay? Is it possible that all individuals do not smell the same?

+ramonypony Oh, you'll see one again :)
Wow!

How do water this plant ?
