This is a must see. Makes me very concerned that our Democracy has been hijacked. We no longer live in a Democracy. Let's get motivated people!!

Hum, motivated, ok, with what ideal? Organise, educate agitate, this was a reality at the beginning of the 20th century, yet, not enough to abolish this monstrosity called capitalism. Today, motivation comes only when private interests are under attack by capital, a reality which can be understood only through the class war, a 24/7/365 situation hardly understood in its essence. Democracy, an interesting word to use, hard to work out in its mechanism which is controlled by capital and the owners of the money power. We, the people need to educate ourselves much more than what level we are at the moment, and we are now in March 2020 with a total collapse of the financial structure and a completely corrupt government, a judicial system more than corrupt and representatives in the two sides of the senate completely devoted to the interests of the wealthy class. Democracy, yeah, sure, perhaps the shadow of democracy in a revolutionary movement, yet the very word of socialism is tabou in the US, or seen as an European disease. Communism in its real essence is unknown, completely ignored and seen as a virus more deadly than the Black Plague. Ok, let’s get motivated, not a bad resolution in itself, yet, let’s be sure on what understanding such motivation can be based because with the wrong one and there are plenty to choose from, we will end up with civil war and totalitarian military regime. History for the last one hundred years explains all this very well, suffice to read it, do we?

Patrice Ortovent Well said. We need a cultural reset which may be on its way, it could be very painful, I am already feeling it as I have a tooth ache and dentists have shut down. We need a complete reset in our relationship with natural resources - the current economic model we live under assumes an infinite supply of resources and unlimited growth. Bezos knows full well that this can never last and has said that his mission now is to create a better world for his grandchildren by colonizing space starting with blue Horizon. I am not as smart as Bezos but I certainly hope there is a better way.

The Kochtopus has taken corporate control of democracy because they didn't like where the nation was going in the 60's. People became concerned about rights and the environment and ending unjust wars. So instead of looking at this as a positive thing, which it was, it was a natural evolutionary progression towards a healthier, more civilized planet, corporations declared war on humanity's refinement.
The Koch industries could've easily switched to using hemp in all of their products but they didn't. Now the planet and our bodies are saturated in petrochemicals. Because influential billionaires refuse to evolve along with us, it creates a kind of toxemia, which can set in if a delivery takes too long, killing the baby and/or mother. Humanity is birthing this new, clean, more conscious planet, but a few want to remain in a 19th century feudal world, where the high court upholds this false reality for them.

It’s too bad that she dismissed the importance of white collar criminal justice reform. Put a just a few in jail and it might do wonders for justice !!

The subprime mortgage crash was caused by paying rating agencies to rate mortgage backed securities based on the value of the security. This is the ultimate in corruption for the simple reason that the value of the security depended on its rating. That no one in government blew the whistle may even be seen as a greater corruption of total incompetence . This went on for years while easy mortgages were driving up house prices and making lenders rich who were selling the mortgages to be bundled into securities.

America is not and has never been a democracy. It only seems that way, but it is a Republic. That's different.

A democratic republic, to be exact. But you're right, it's never been a democracy, nor has it ever been a democratic republic. It's much more of a corporatocracy, a kleptocracy, a plutocracy, run and ruled by white men with property and money.

Libertarians' idea of liberty depends on economic inequality. It's their "human right". Economic freedom over liberty for all. Isn't that anti-American?
"Aryeh Neier, founder of Human Rights Watch and its executive director for 12 years, doesn’t hide his contempt for the idea of economic equality as one of the key human rights. Neier is so opposed to the idea of economic equality that he even equates the very idea of economic equality and justice with oppression-economic rights to him are a violation of human rights, rather than essential human rights, thereby completely inverting traditional left thinking. Here’s what Neier wrote in his memoir, Taking Liberties: “The concept of economic and social rights is profoundly undemocratic... Authoritarian power is probably a prerequisite for giving meaning to economic and social rights.”
Neier here is aping free-market libertarian mandarins like Friedrich von Hayek, or Hayek’s libertarian forefathers like William Graham Sumner, the robber baron mandarin and notorious laissez-faire Social Darwinist. As with Neier, William Graham Sumner argued that liberty has an inverse relationship to economic equality; according to Sumner, the more economic equality, the less liberty; whereas the greater the inequality in a society, the more liberty its individuals enjoy. It’s the fundamental equation underlying all libertarian ideology and politics-a robber baron’s ideology at heart."
