- A question has come up time and time again, and it's "How do I MekHQ?". In this video we'll be going over the basic concepts of playing MegaMek (Against the Bot), how to set up your first company, starting rules and mechanics, as well as getting your first contract up and running using a combination of the AtB Rule-set, Mukai and Campaign Operations. This is hands-down the best MekHQ / MegaMek tutorial I've seen so far.
Thanks for making this. I would NEVER have been able to sort through this on my own.
I hope in the future MekHQ will add the ability to set starting conditions during set up (Starting funds, Staff, Location, Meks, ect...) especially since they already have so many details for the set up already. It would improve the end user experience by not requiring the player to, effectively, cheat the resources in.
I never know what I should be starting with... I tried going myself 10,000,000 so I could hire people and buy equipment, but it literally only afforded me a few tanks or a light mech.
So much detail! I didn't know there was so much involved in maintaining the MekHQ game.
Just wanna say, you are awesome man! I’ve loved the battletech/mechwarrior universe since I was a kid and after getting into and learning 40k tabletop, I’ve wanted to try the battletech tabletop out as well but learning it looked way too complicated. You made it look easy!

Thanks for this video guide to setting up the campaign. Your guide clearly explains how to do it in such a way that sets the game up balanced is very helpful, I was a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out what to set up myself and nearly gave up but for this video.
There is soo much that could be streamlined for end-user players but the concept is pretty sound and it's nice to see all the stuff you have to manually set up first-hand.
I appreciate this videos existence. (proceeds to like)
So trying to confirm the following things all need to be done manually
1) Generating initial personnel/forces/funds
2) Putting the bonus perks the rules call for on personnel
3) Victory conditions do not automatically upload from MekHQ to MegaMek, only the units list?
What else are the main things I need to watch out for?
Can you post a link to the Mukai rule set? I can't find it.
So much good stuff here in this one video! I've had MegaMek in a couple of it's releases over the last couple of decades, and never 'got into it' (well, for starters when I first encountered it, RUclips was not much of a thing... much less 'quality tutorials' on You Tube)... While you are covering the .46 stable release, I've been following along in .48 with no issues thus far (31 minutes in). Suddenly, I'm excited about play by email or other options with the Battletech fans I know around the world.

Have you ever seen or read the fanrule book for Industrial battletech? For running personal industry like factories and production facilities? Could this be implemented in megamek reasonably? Ive found ways to put it in the finaces byt not property, land, or equipment....

do you have the mukai spreadsheet anywhere that i can get a copy, for many reasons, but the random special ability is a great one. i am starting a campaign using mekhq, battletech, savage worlds and need to create my NPC mechs among other things, thank you for the walkthru btw

Thank you so much for this video. Ive only messed with the Megamek skirmishes, but wanted to do campaigns. Also, have you ever checked out Gearhead 2 or Gearhead Caramel? They are mech games that feel more like the MW RPG than just Battletech combat

@@Tirak117 Thank you as well, I will say that I dont think the Gearhead campaigns or games are complete, but they do work. Think its only 1 guy working on it, but its still fun

Multiplayer really is just a matter of making sure your ports are forwarded and you're plugging into the right IP address, I'm not sure there's much I could help explain to be honest.
im still dont get it how mekHQ decide which lance get into combat...i cant change anything to it...i.e. i bring 3 lances to the planet...2 fight lances ( heavy lance) but do i have to change it manually with assign only the lance i want to play assign it to fight?
When I added a New Force, they didn't go under my unit, but over in the description side...

Hi There, Would you know by any chance in the MegaMek game if a mech pilot can have a weapon to fire when they have ejected out from the Mech? Not sure how to equip a pilot.
Yes, there is a special rule you can turn on in the MegaMek Options called something like Armed MechWarriors. It will hive them a Sidearm to use if ejected.
What happens when you fail the roll to buy a mech? Can you just try again the next day or how does that work?
Each admin can attempt a number of purchase rolls per day. If they fail their rolls the will try again tomorrow until they succeed
10 and 8 would be 08 not 18
I love the virtual game and have a friend who has an army and everything but I want to play in person with him but I don't want to buy an army set I want to 3d print one what would I need?
A 0 (or 10 on the google dice) and 8 on the d10s would be 8, not 18 56:00

OK your going too fast. im still trying to dowload and install but theres soo many blooming files it want you to extract but your not going over that, your just jumpnig waaay to far ahead. need to go through the installation slowly and properly.
25 minutes in and we haven't even gotten past the options yet. Most of this isn't needed to get started.
If anyone wants to see a campaign that I currently have going on I do have my own campaign in my channel.... an original story that is not necessarily accurate to BattleTech history but it's intentional that way
